The IoD puts its members first and we
want to make sure that your issues,
challenges and observations are shared as
widely as possible.
With this in mind, we’re delighted to
invite you to our Virtual Members Event
on May 7, which will feature a live address
from the Director General.
Jon will highlight the IoD’s new strategy
and outline how the Institute is
fighting for greater support for
you, our members.
After Jon’s update, guests will
join their local IoD chairs and
ambassadors in breakout rooms
to discuss the business agenda,
hear about the latest IoD member
benefits and expand their network of
connections in a relaxed, virtual
environment.
This is a great opportunity to meet your
regional team and discover what they have
planned in your area. You can also learn
how to get more closely involved by
becoming an IoD ambassador.
We welcome your views on IoD
membership and top priorities for
local directors. Guests can also
learn more about professional
development and how we make
your voice heard through Policy

Join us for this bite-sized, informative
session on how to kick-start your
professional development journey with the
IoD, facilitated by a course leader and
Chartered Director.
Have you been considering how you can
enhance your impact and performance as
a director? Do you want to gain the latest
tools from expert practitioners who have a
wealth of experience in board rooms
across the globe?
If you answered “yes” then this may be
the most useful session you take this year,
in which you can find out more about our
professional development programmes
and how they are being delivered in
today’s virtual environment.
Whether you’re a new director, aspiring
to a seat on the board, or want fresh
insight, the IoD Certificate in Company
Direction, Level 9 (SCQF) qualification will
equip you with the core knowledge and
awareness needed to function effectively
as a director.
Influential figures from business and
beyond continue to recommend IoD
professional development programmes for
executive and non-executive directors.
The session will be interactive featuring
a Q&A with the course leader and
Chartered Director and will also include a
teaser activity from one of the Certificate
in Company Direction modules.

Programmes can be taken individually
or as part of the full Certificate, forming the
first step towards the Chartered Director

experience of the programme.

Greed is dead
In Conversation with
economist John Kay

Join in with an IoD conversation with
renowned economist John Kay as we ask,
Is Greed Dead?
John will look at ‘individualism’ and ask
whether we need a new approach based
around morality and mutuality. Covid-19
has shown that the people felt the need to
pull together in a national crisis. But can
this goodwill continue?
John will look at the political and
business worlds and analyse the rise of
individualism and its impacts. He will
also study ‘extreme individualism’
embraced by many successful people in
recent decades, who sought justification
in terms of merit or celebrity, but John
believes this is no longer tenable.
John believes that markets can function
effectively only when embedded in a
network of social relations, and will show
us how a reaffirmation of the values of
morality could refresh and restore
politics, business and the environments
in which people live.
