This is not the best of
time for residents
of Kano as the state
battles with a strange ailment
following the consumption
of expired juice.
Officials confirmed 10
persons dead after consuming
the drink. More
than 400 people were hospitalised
while 50 others
are undergoing treatment
for kidney-related complications.
Speaking to Sunday
Vanguard, a survivor,
Siyama Rabiu, narrated
how she bought the juice
at the rate of N300, which
nearly sent her to an early
grave.
She is one of those who
prepared the local juice for
consumption in Warure,
Gwale Local Government
Area.
Rabiu said she didn’t
know that what she bought
got expired in 2020.
She said: “I bought a
carton of expired juice for
N700 and another one at
the rate of N300.
“After cooking our meal,
I made local juice for our
consumption in the house.
About 10 minutes after we
consumed the drink, my
smallest daughter started
vomiting. After some intervals,
we all became infected.
We were 13 in the house
while our neighbors were
six. Our urine was coming
out with blood. Our skin
colour changed to yellowish.
“We initially thought it
was the water we bought
from water vendors. It was
later that we discovered the
juice we drank was expired
since October 2020.
“We went to a medicine
store and we were given injections.
The following
morning, we proceeded to
Primary Healthcare Centre
where they gave us
drip. They referred us to
another hospital. We were
referred to Aminu Kano
Teaching Hospital. Some
people came and took our
blood sample for a clinical
test in Abuja.
“One person died after
drinking the juice. He is an
elderly man. We were hospitalised
at Zanah Hospital.”
Recall that Kano State
Commissioner for Health,
Dr. Aminu Tsanyawa, had
earlier confirmed three
persons dead while 284
others hospitalised.
He said several assorted
drinks were confiscated
while 13 persons were arrested
in connection with
the development.

Godswill Akpabio, has set
July 2021 ending as deadline
for the conclusion of the ongoing
forensic audit of the Niger
Delta Development
Commission, NDDC, ordered
by President Muhammadu
Buhari.
Akpabio, who spoke weekend
at the Ibom Icon Hotels
and Golf Resort Uyo, Akwa
Ibom State, on the sideline of
the inauguration of the
physical verification phase of
the forensic audit of the
NDDC, said that the audit
involves the internal reforms
of the NDDC.
He explained that the 16
field auditors selected for the
field audit would now begin
to identify and verify the
projects across the Niger Delta,
noting that budgetary
delays affected the progress
of the forensic exercise,
prompting President Buhari
to intervene to save the situation.
He said it was, however,
surprising that some people
were peddling rumour which
has left many concerned citizens
of the region wondering
if the forensic audit exercise
has been aborted

what has happened to the

lion, Prophet Chukwuemeka
Odumeje, who
opened up on how he acquired
his spiritual powers as
