A full 12 months of lockdown restrictions have taken<br />
their toll on many local communities, with many people<br />
desperately in need of something to look forward to.<br />
With most restrictions now liifting, why not take the<br />
initiative and celebrate by throwing open your doors, or<br />
taking to your gardens, driveways, parks and community<br />
spaces for a good old British knees-up?<br />
The Big Lunch is an annual community-led event that<br />
connects people over a love of food and fun; Big Lunches<br />
come in all shapes and sizes,<br />
small and simple or large and<br />
loud, the how, where and when<br />
are totally up to you.<br />
The celebrations for <strong>2021</strong> are<br />
set to be extra special this year<br />
as the nation emerges from<br />
lockdown and community<br />
events and activities take on<br />
a life of their own. This is great<br />
chance to create a sense of<br />
occasion where you live and a<br />
chance to strengthen those neighbourly bonds.<br />
This year the Big Lunch weekend will take place on<br />
Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th <strong>June</strong>. All you need to do<br />
is decide how you’re going to join in with the event; you<br />
can have a natter and a nibble online, a socially distanced<br />
BBQ, set up a food stall on your driveway, share recipes<br />
with your neighbours, raise money for your chosen<br />
charity or go the whole hog and arrange a street party.<br />
Last year more than 6 million people took part in the Big<br />
Lunch, with 4.5 million of those<br />
people saying that the event<br />
helped them to feel less lonely.<br />
