The mobility programme within the Swiss Programme to Erasmus+ designed for the higher education level is called the Swiss-European Mobility Programme. SEMP offers Swiss universities and colleges of higher education the opportunity to sponsor students, lecturers and staff for stays abroad in one of 34 European Erasmus+ Programme Countries (outgoing mobility).

Most <strong>education</strong>al institutions in Switzerland<br />

and Europe switched <strong>to</strong> distance learning<br />

in spring semester <strong>20</strong><strong>20</strong>. Thanks <strong>to</strong> rapidly<br />

implemented measures that made it<br />

possible <strong>to</strong> finish a semester or an internship<br />

online, most students were able <strong>to</strong> continue<br />

and complete their mobility semesters.<br />

Mobilities that are continued online as<br />

SEMP supports four types of mobility. Whereas a classic semester abroad for a<br />

student lasts on average 6 months and earns 35 ECTS, traineeships with an<br />

average duration of 5 months give students their first work experience. All SEMP<br />

students receive a financial grant of CHF 1’600/semester or CHF 440/month<br />

of traineeship.<br />

Higher <strong>education</strong> institution staff can pursue lecturing activities at a foreign<br />

partner institution or professional development courses. The average length of<br />

stay levels at 4 days. Financial support is provided on a flat-rate basis for<br />

travel and subsistence costs.<br />
