It is not an easy task to sum up the very many things Hermione’s Presidency has<br />
brought to the <strong>College</strong>. Primary amongst these is strategic vision: showing the<br />
<strong>College</strong> that it could be something rather more again than the very nice place it had<br />
been previously, and helping it to develop a much more powerful identity within the<br />
collegiate university. She succeeded in drawing the Governing Body more closely<br />
together – not just through the creation of research clusters and the programming<br />
of a string of fascinating academic events, but also through encouraging us to<br />
recognize our collective responsibilities as trustees. She has also been responsible<br />

for a remarkable transformation in so many aspects of the <strong>College</strong>, including the<br />
beautiful new auditorium, porters’ lodge, café and Academic Wing. As our former<br />
Bursar Ed Jarron puts it: ‘That vision for the academic life of the <strong>College</strong> as well<br />
as its physical fabric never changed throughout her time in office, and it was that,<br />
linked to her tenacity, drive, fine judgement and good humour that made working<br />
with her such a pleasure. […] She has the charm to get people on-side, and the steel<br />
