Parramatta: Police search for man
who spat at staff in local store
Police are appealing for public assistance
to find a man who abused and spat
at staff at a store in Parramatta recently.
About 7.30am on Wednesday, May
26, an unknown male entered a store
on Church Street, Parramatta, which
operates a bottle recycling exchange
program.
Once inside the store, the man tried to
exchange his bottles which were refused
previously by staff due to them being of
poor quality.
Upon being told they would not accept
his bottles again, the man and staff
member became involved in a heated
argument.
During the argument, it is alleged the
unknown man spat at the staff member
which hit him in the face and chest.
The staff member then tried to get the
man to leave the store, which resulted in
a physical altercation.
Staff called the police but he ran off
prior to attendance.
The unknown male is described as of
Asian appearance and is believed to be
about 50-60-years-old.
Parramatta: Police warn of
scammers phoning residents
Police are reminding everyone to be
vigilant, as tele-scammers impersonating
police have been reported to be
contacting locals.
Between 11.30am and 1.30pm
on Thursday, May 27, a resident of
Parramatta received phone calls from
three separate people claiming to be
from the Parramatta Police Station and
another crime agency.
The callers were claiming that her
identity had been leaked.
She was informed that she had to
purchase gift cards to cover the costs of
retrieving her identity.
After purchasing over $2000 in gift
cards and supplying the details to the
callers the resident realised that she had
been scammed.
One of the phone numbers provided
was in fact the phone number of
Parramatta Police Station.
Police would like to remind members of
the public that police and other agencies
do not request payment in the form of gift
cards in any form.
Seven Hills: Man to face court
following April crash
A man will face court after allegedly
being caught driving more than three
times over the legal limit following a
crash in Seven Hills earlier this year.
Just before 11pm on Friday, April 16,
emergency services were called to
Prospect Highway, Seven Hills, following
reports a Kia sedan had mounted a curb
and collided with a power box.
Police officers attached to Blacktown
Police Area Command attended the
scene and spoke to the driver, a 44-yearold
man.
He underwent a roadside breath test,
which returned a positive result.
The man was arrested and taken to
Blacktown Police Station, where he
underwent a breath analysis and allegedly
returned a reading of 0.155, more
than three and a half times the legal
limit.
He was issued a Future Court Attendance
Notice (FCAN) for ‘drive with highrange
PCA’.
The man’s license was suspended and
Merrylands Chamber of
Commerce is shining its focus
on the business leaders of
tomorrow, with recent events directed
at young people and female entrepreneurs.
Merrylands Chamber of Commerce
President, Immanuel Selvaraj said it’s
important that the chamber not only
focus on current businesses but also
assist people to become future entrepreneurs
and leaders.
“The two most impactful phenomenons
that have occurred and literally
changed our lives over the last couple of
decades are Facebook in 2004 and now
blockchain technology, which underpins
Cryptocurrency, in 2009; Both were
created by young people in their early
20’s,” he said.
“These young people have changed the
way we live.
“Gone are the days when a Chamber
consisted of middle-aged men pondering
over business issues.
“Past experience is not as important as
what it was in the past.”
Most recently the chamber held its
Leadership, Entrepreneurship and
The Chamber’s recent workshop.
Growing your Business workshop at the
Granville Centre, for keen young people
looking for tips on starting out or growing
an existing business.
Attendees heard from key speakers
including Auburn MP Lynda Voltz,
Barrister and Cumberland Citizen of
the Year, Dr Chandrika Subramaniyam,
business person, coach Frank Web and
Cumberland Business Person of the Year
2020, Alpesh Prajapati.
The event was free, sponsored by the
Chamber, to support young people and
women to start or grow their business.
The Chamber proposes to hold a series
of workshops in the coming months to
help young people, women and existing
businesses start or grow their business.
