THE LITTLE CARPET COMPANY OPENS IT’S NEWEST STORE IN 

WOLLATON

The Little Carpet Company has opened its newest, 

Wollaton branch. The independent store, that 

specialises in premium carpets and hard flooring: 

vinyl, laminate and LVT (luxury vinyl tiles), opened 

at the new Lidl retail park, (the former Waitrose 

site) on Trowell Road in May. 

Store manager Aaron said: 

“It’s been exciting to open our shop doors to welcome 

all of our new and old customers”. 

The Little Carpet Company serves the whole of 

Nottingham and surrounding areas, with a friendly, 

expert team on-hand and ready to help with any 

advice. Alongside a great range of products, no 

obligation home measures, quotes, free sample 

service and fitting they offer additional services 

such as: flooring uplift and disposal, room clearance, 

stair rods and runners, coir and entrance matting 

and landlord services.

To celebrate all of The Little Carpet Company 

stores reopening we are offering 20% of all carpets

Plans to open the new Wollaton location after 

outgrowing the old premises had been put on hold 

whilst non-essential businesses were closed due to 

lockdown restrictions. The new store features ample 

free parking and has a huge range of products 

including: British Made Wool Carpets and a large 

range of hard flooring. 

“In addition we are introducing a large remnant and 

clearance range, including roll stock and special 

priced flooring. It’s worth a visit to find a bargain !” 

The newly located Wollaton store is the second new 

store to be opened during lockdown, bringing their 

total number of stores to four, with shops in Gedling, 

Mapperley, West Bridgford and Wollaton. Four new 

jobs have been created within The Little Carpet 

Company. 

The Little Carpet Company co-owner, Michelle 

Breslin said: 

“As an independent, family business we are proud 

to open the doors of our newly relocated store in 

Wollaton. It’s been a tough year for all businesses so 

it’s great to be back in the heart of the community.” 

Established in 2010, The Little Carpet Company is 

an independent, family owned, local business with 

over 30 years’ experience in the flooring industry. 

The newly relocated store has taken on unit 5 and 

joins Lidl, Extra Care Charity, The Green Room 

hairdressers and Best Wishes party and card shop. 

Wollaton Farmers Market runs on the 1st Saturday 

morning of each month. There are also plans to 

open a coffee shop on-site later in the summer.

EASY STREET FOOD 

Street food is my absolute 

favourite. Whether it’s tapas, fish 

and chips, burgers or something 

more exotic, I love it all. I am a 

regular at the Sneinton Street 

Food events – if you haven’t been, 

look them up on Facebook and get 

booked in! 

By defi nition, street food consists of readyto-eat 

food or drink sold by a vendor in a 

public place from a trailer or van. In Arnold 

we were lucky to have the Squeaky Beaver 

poutine van parked in the Waggon and 

Horses car park fortnightly over lockdown. 

Poutine is a Canadian version of cheesy 

chips with gravy. I have included my own 

version opposite, but the squeaky cheese 

curds are really hard to replicate so I used 

a Polish curd cheese called Twarog. You 

could also use the block mozzarella. 

Korean street food is really popular at the 

minute, especially the double fried crispy 

chicken. Stick this in a bun/cob/batch add 

some chilli sauce and coleslaw and you 

have a perfect combo. My recipe is shallow 

fried as I don’t have a deep fat fryer. It works 

perfectly well and is better for you too. 

Finally, who doesn’t love a churro? These 

tasty sweet treats originated from Spain 

and Portugal and are made of fried dough. 

A bit like a donut. The recipe opposite is 

slightly healthier as we bake the dough. 

They are then tossed in cinnamon sugar 

and accompanied by a chocolate sauce.

Poutine (Freestyle!) 

This recipe is super fl exible. If you can 

be bothered to make your own chips 

it will elevate the recipe. The key is the 

gravy. Once that is nailed – the rest 

is up to you. You can add whatever 

topping you fancy. Let your imagination 

run wild. Pulled pork, crispy bacon, 

shredded duck and plum sauce… 

The recipe can easily be adapted for 

vegetarians or vegans. 

Poutine Gravy 

3tbsp cornfl our 

2tbsp water 

6 tbsp unsalted butter 

4 tbsp plain fl our 

600ml beef stock 

300ml chicken stock 

Method 

In a small bowl, dissolve the cornfl our 

in the water. In a small saucepan, melt 

the butter then add the fl our. Cook 

gently for 5 mins. Then add the stock 

and half the cornfl our. Keep stirring until 

the sauce thickens. You are looking for 

a nice thick gravy. Add more cornfl our 

if necessary. Season with pepper (you 

may not need salt depending on what 

stock you use). 

1 x bag frozen chips (or homemade) – 

cooked as per instructions 

2 x 250g pack Twarog curd cheese 

or block mozzarella – broken into 

small chunks 

Topping of your choice. 

Putting the poutine together is easy. It 

can be a messy business so we used 

pasta bowls to serve. 

Start with a generous layer of chips, 

scatter some cheese chunks, pour 

over the hot gravy then top with 

whatever you choose. We used BBQ 

brisket with some extra BBQ sauce 

then scattered the top with the spring 

onions and gherkins and a dollop of 

sour cream. Then dig in! 

Baked Churros 

For the Churros 

225ml cold water 

115g unsalted butter 

½ tsp vanilla extract 

2 tbsp brown sugar 

145g plain white fl our 

¼ tsp salt 

3 x medium eggs 

For the coating 

115g caster sugar 

1 tsp cinnamon 

For dipping 

200g chocolate (melted) 

Method 

Heat the oven to 200°C. Line a large 

baking tray with greaseproof paper. 

Melt the water, butter, sugar & salt until 

it simmers. Then add fl our and beat 

until you have a smooth dough (like 

you would make choux pastry). Cook 

this for 1 min, then remove from the 

heat. Beat the eggs with the vanilla 

and gradually add to the dough until 

you have a thick paste. Using a piping 

bag with a star nozzle (about 1.5cm 

width) pipe 8cm lines onto the tray 

(about 2cm apart). Put another baking 

tray with 240ml of boiling water in the 

bottom of the oven and this will keep 

the churros soft. Bake for 18 mins until 

golden. Turn off the oven and leave 

in for 10 mins. Place the sugar and 

cinnamon in a plastic bag and toss the 

churros to coat. Melt the chocolate in 

a bowl over a simmering pan of water. 

Serve the churros with the melted 

chocolate in a dipping bowl. 

Korean Fried Chicken 

Burgers 

For the chicken 

4 large boneless, skinless chicken thighs 

2cm piece ginger – peeled & grated 

100g cornfl our 

1tsp celery salt 

Chilli fl akes – pinch (optional) 

Salt (pinch) 

Black pepper – to taste 

Sunfl ower oil for frying 

4 x Brioche buns 

Iceberg lettuce 

For the sauce 

2tbsp Korean chilli paste (gochujang) 

2tbsp runny honey 

2 tbsp brown sugar 

2tbsp soy sauce 

2 garlic cloves – minced 

1tbsp sesame oil 

2cm piece ginger - grated 

Method 

Trim any fat off the chicken. Put in 

a zip lock bag and season with salt 

and pepper and the ginger. Leave for 

15 mins. In another zip lock bag add 

the cornfl our, celery salt, chilli (if using) 

and salt & pepper. Add chicken to the 

cornfl our bag and make sure they are 

well covered with the mix. 

Heat 2cm oil in a large, deep frying 

pan. Add the chicken and fry for a few 

minutes on both sides until starting to 

crisp. Remove and drain on kitchen 

paper. Leave for a couple of minutes 

and re-fry in the hot oil until very 

crisp. Remove and drain again on 

kitchen paper. 

Meanwhile make the sauce by adding 

everything to a small saucepan. Simmer 

gently until the sugar has dissolved and 

you have a syrupy texture. 

Get the brioche burger buns, shredded 

iceberg lettuce, add the fried chicken, 

top with sauce and get stuck in. 

We served ours with coleslaw and 

homemade oven chips.

Are you getting enough protein? 

So many people who come to us for health 

coaching aren’t consuming anywhere near 

enough protein in their daily diet. 

Through the media and clever marketing, protein 

gets linked to building muscle, which for a lot of 

people, particularly women, worries them. They 

don’t want to get too big or muscular. So protein is 

avoided and calories made up elsewhere, often with 

carbs (which are not the devils work, stick with me…) 

Let me explain… 

We need carbs and fats in our diet, this is 100% fact 

and neither should be considered ‘bad’. BUT… we 

do need to be mindful of how much we consume. 

Effectively, carbs are sugars once they are broken 

down into fuel, and we only need so much fuel to 

actually use as energy. The overspill we consume 

will need to be stored, EVEN IF YOU ARE WITHIN 

YOUR CALORIES (now read this again before 

moving on). 

So, this is the first part. Calories consumed need to 

be a healthy combination of ALL macronutrients. 

Having too much fuel can still lead to seeing little to 

no effect on body fat loss. 

NOW, let’s talk protein and its many key benefits - 

which aren’t just for building muscle. 

Protein is made up of amino acids (the building 

blocks of muscle). It repairs torn and broken-down 

muscle fibre. So essentially, you have to be creating 

damage to muscle, like resistance training in the 

gym, for muscle to repair and grow. Consuming 

protein alone will not make muscle grow. 

Next, protein helps with food satiety - it keeps you 

fuller for longer. 

AND it helps with hormone regulation and aids 

recovery of the body. 

It’s important to remember that our bodies don’t 

store protein, so we need to eat it every day. So 

how much protein should we be consuming daily to 

unlock these key benefits? 

Around 1g of protein per 1lb of bodyweight. So, 

180lb in weight = 180g of protein. A scale of 0.6- 

1.5g of protein per 1lb of body weight is used when 

working out your intake needs. 

My mini challenge for you: 

At your next meal, see how much protein you are 

actually consuming. Protein can come into your 

diet in many ways, not just from meat and protein 

shakes. Think eggs, tofu, beans and seafood. Assess 

your daily protein intake for a week. Remember you 

need to spread the consumption out over the day. 

Are you close to 1g per 1lb of body weight per day? 

Main Meal Idea 

KOREAN PORK BOWL (Serves 1) 

Ingredients 

½ tbsp coconut oil 

180g lean pork thinly sliced 

1 small carrot 

½ courgette 

4 mushrooms – sliced 

½ red pepper 

175g cooked basmati rice 

For the sauce 

1 tsp hot chilli sauce 

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 

1 tsp honey 

1 clove garlic – crushed 

½ thumb size piece ginger – finely chopped 

1 tbsp dark soy sauce 

Method 

1. Melt half the coconut oil in a large pan/wok 

2. Add the pork in single layers and cook for 1-2 

mins each side. Then set aside 

3. Peel the carrot into thin strips and slice the 

courgette into matchsticks 

4. Melt remaining oil in the pan, stir fry the carrot, 

courgette and mushrooms for 2 mins. 

5. Remove from heat and allow to sit for 2-3 mins. 

6. For the sauce, mix together all of the ingredients 

and set aside. 

7. Place the cooked rice in a bowl and place the 

pork and veg on top. 

8. Drizzle the sauce over the top and serve

As I gaze forlornly into my pathetic little wardrobe, I 

often ponder the question, how should a 55 year old 

dress? 

Are Doc Martins still acceptable? (yes), can I still 

get away with skinny jeans? (yes, but only if the 

waistband comes up to my chin and they are 100% 

lycra, so jeggings then…), how about a cropped top? 

(Absolutely no chance. Whatsoever). Having said 

that, I recently purchased a new sports bra. I didn’t 

realise it was a pull on. What a palaver. After much 

huffing and puffing (I actually googled it), I eventually 

squeezed into it. There was a bit of back and arm 

overspill, but I reckon I got away with it (another 

advantage of Zoom classes). Throughout the class, I 

was stressing about how the hell I was going to get the 

flipping thing off. Sure enough, no amount of twisting, 

pulling and contorting helped. I ended up calling for 

backup and between us Gary and I managed to release 

me. Needless to say, this is now on Vinted (my new 

favourite second- hand clothes app). 

Clothes shopping has always been extremely low 

down on my list of things I like to do and when I do 

buy anything, I have a ridiculous habit of saving them 

for ‘best’. Which, let’s face it, over the last year has 

been never! I recently found a pair of jeans that I had 

been ‘saving’ and now they don’t even fit me! Thanks 

lockdown. 

This year I am trying to avoid buying new clothes, so 

Vinted has come in handy, although it hasn’t started 

particularly well. The first two things I bought don’t 

fit. Jeans too small (are they making things smaller 

these days?) and sandals too big. It appears that I am 

expanding and shrinking in all the wrong places.

of black jeans, black top and black boots. This avoids 

the inevitable critique from my boys who like to think 

they know a bit about fashion (they don’t, at least not 

over 50’s fashion, if that is even a thing). 

To be fair, in my house, I get off lightly, possibly due 

to the fact the kids know that I am only ever a hemline 

comment away from tearful hysterics 24/7. However, 

poor Gary only has to put a pair of slim jeans on and 

the kids rip into him. 

Previously I have waxed lyrical about elasticated 

waists being a game changer. I now want to share 

another line I have crossed. Gone are those awful 

skimpy pants (cheese wire) and in come the rice bags 

(comfy). Yes, let’s hear it for great big Bridgit Jones 

style knickers! I recently caught myself tucking my 

thermal top into them and thinking, when did this 

become an acceptable thing to do? It was funny and 

tragic at the same time. Although it has to be said 

that if you are still in the early days of a relationship, 

I would strongly advise against this draft proofing 

technique. 

During a recent family decorating day (even writing 

that, I can’t actually believe it happened), I dug out my 

25 year old painting jeans, trainers and t-shirt. Frankie 

proceeded to take a photo of me and put it on his 

social media saying my jeans were “well cool”. When I 

told him they were George at Asda and older than him, 

he couldn’t believe it. Funny old game isn’t it. 

Sadly, it appears I am now of an age where fashion has 

come full circle. The important thing to remember is 

that clothes only become ‘retro’ when they are worn by 

someone half your age or less! 

Back to my initial question - of course I know that I 

can wear what the hell I want, however, I am quite selfconscious 

and usually end up in my standard uniform 

However, the fact that I can still fit into jeans that are 

almost antique is a small win, but I’ll take it!

Some Like it HOT 

We all remember the 

old fashioned Red Hot 

Poker plants with their 

tall, impressive heads 

of flower, red at the top 

and yellow at the bottom 

and great mounds of 

leaves, flowering away in 

a neglected spot in the 

garden. 

Eye-catching they certainly 

are and they have come a 

long way from these gaudy 

giants with lots of colours and 

sizes now available for every 

type of garden. 

Kniphofia, as they are properly 

called come from Southern 

Africa. The ones we grow 

in the garden largely grow 

on high mountains so they 

are cold hardy although you 

may find plants or seeds of 

sub-tropical species that will 

need protection in winter. As 

a rule of thumb those with 

very narrow, almost chive-like 

leaves are less hardy. 

The best way to grow them 

is in plenty of sun and a rich, 

fertile soil with plenty of 

summer moisture. Here they 

will have more and larger 

flowers. Here are a few of 

my favourites. 

“Timothy” is very different 

from the standard poker with 

his salmony orange flowers 

on 2ft / 60cm stems in midsummer 

he is more suitable 

for a small garden. The large 

yellow and green flowers 

of “Bees’ Lemon” are good 

partners with hot colours as 

well as paler pastels. 

Some pokers are long and 

slender adding a gracefulness 

to the flowers. “Jenny 

Bloom” is one such with 

softly coloured peaches 

and cream flowers. “Toffee- 

Nosed” is similar but has more 

distinctly caramel and white 

flowers. “Fiery Fred” is tall, 

slender and burning with heat 

through July and August and 

a must for the hot-coloured 

garden. The heads of “Shining 

Sceptre” are elegant and fiery 

orange and gold. The giant of 

pokers is “Nobilis” which can 

send up 6ft / 180cm or more 

high red and yellow flowers. 

Pokers can be propagated by 

division after flowering or in 

late spring from late flowering 

ones. Seed will be variable 

but does produce good 

plants – the colours may be a 

surprise! Sow on the surface 

of moist seed compost – do 

not bury the seed just press it 

lightly onto the surface – in 

late winter in warmth such 

as a heated propagator and 

transplant as soon as they 

are big enough to handle and 

then wait for the fireworks 

when they flower!

The Volkswagen T-Roc is 

a reasonable sized Sports 

Utility Vehicle suited to an 

active family. We should 

get on fine then. 

True to VW design it is smart, 

sleek and clinical both inside 

and out; something to be proud 

of – the architecture of the 

bodywork gives much interest 

thanks to the lines and general 

boxiness. Gone are the days it 

seems of sweeping curves. 

On the road it’s fun to drive, 

fast when required and in fact 

if the driver is too zealous with 

their right foot the front wheels 

can lose their grip on the road. 

There’s a good driving position. 

Its six speed manual gearbox 

is smooth to operate and a 

pleasure to use. The cruise 

control on the other hand is 

one of the more complicated 

to operate, so much so that 

it’s too awkward for me and I 

give up. 

Inside, it’s comfortable and 

practical. There’s a neat 

drawer underneath the driver’s 

seat providing some useful 

storage. But it’s very black 

Volkswagen T-Roc 

indeed, which seems the 

way these days in terms of 

both interiors and economic 

forecasts…. Not a bit of colour, 

unless it is the electric blue of 

the digital displays. But then 

it is the Black Edition so what 

do I expect? “Perhaps there’s 

a Green Edition,” questions

of this colour, especially 

dinosaurs. The soul craves 

it, like music, good food and 

drink. These days we all 

need colour in our lives for 

our mental health; far more 

important than ramming

A QUIET PLACE 

PART II 

A Quiet Place Part II does what all great 

sequels should. It expands on the world, 

characters, themes and legacy of the film 

that proceeded it. Part II quite literally 

picks up where the last one left off, making 

it feel like an extension of a broader story 

that is still yet to be complete. 

It gives answers to many mysteries of the 

first film, whilst simultaneously creating 

new questions for further down the line. 

I think one of my favorite things about 

this film was that it fleshed out the world 

that it takes place in, giving it a promising 

lore, which will hopefully be explored even 

further in future installments. 

There’s a world of possibilities for this 

series, and I believe it’s in safe hands with 

John Krasinski as his direction only grows 

stronger in this sequel. He employs similar 

techniques to those seen in the first film, 

but differentiates it enough to not feel like 

a carbon copy. 

It feels a lot more narrative driven than 

the first but still has the edge of your 

seat tension that made the original so 

instantly iconic.

As a way to reintroduce people to the big screen 

blockbusters, Godzilla Vs Kong is an entertaining 

ride. Adam Wingard brings a building-crushing 

journey from the neon streets to the centre of 

the earth, with elements for hardcore kaiju fans 

to enjoy and a charm and scope that makes it a 

thrilling ride for general audiences. 

Godzilla was previously seen to keep the earth 

and humans’ cycle in balance as the king of the 

monstrous roaming Titans, whilst the younger 

King Kong was seen ruling over his isolated home 

of Skull Island. After Godzilla is seen in unusual 

attacks on human bases, our protagonists begin 

to suspect he is seeking the now-matured Kong 

to end a threat to his kingly status. The main story 

follows our cast tackling conspiracies on the true 

reason for these attacks, as well as a journey to 

trace Kong’s origins in some of the film’s most 

captivating sequences. 

While this film can be considered a typical 

blockbuster formula, the chemistry in our main 

cast and the characterisation of Kong makes it 

more humorous and remarkable. 

Godzilla Vs Kong is a case of staying loyal to what’s 

on the packaging. Entertaining choreography, 

serviceable human characters boosted by 

attachable characterisation of Kong, and the fast 

but digestible pace of the scenarios makes this 

blockbuster pack a punch.

Officers seize drug dealers’ phones to reach out to 

help addicts 

A suspected county lines drug dealer’s 

phone is being used to send out 

hundreds of text messages to his 

customers to help them break their 

addiction. 

Analysis of the Bestwood dealer’s hotline 

revealed the mobile numbers of more 

than 100 contacts were receiving SMS 

marketing updates from the drugs line. 

The phone

warrant 

executed in Bestwood. 

The search was part of the relentless 

pursuit of criminals in a drugs network 

that is supplying heroin and crack 

cocaine across Nottinghamshire. 

County lines officers are now sending 

their own text messages from the seized 

phone to offer a way out to those trying 

to overcome substance abuse, reduce 

drug crime and give vulnerable people a 

way to seek help from local partners and 

support services. 

The text lets the recipient know that their 

phone number has been in contact with 

a county lines phone and signposts drug 

users to seek support through tailored 

services in the hope that they will turn 

their life around. 

Detective Inspector Paul Lefford hopes 

the force can reach hundreds of young 

people and adults through the bulk 

messaging tactic, with the aim to disrupt 

drug dealing activity. 

“Drugs gangs exploit drug users and 

we know there are people who may feel 

trapped by their lifestyle or frightened to 

get help. 

“Our message is clear, if you’re a drug 

dealer in Nottinghamshire and you are 

looking to recruit, exploit and profit 

financially by exploiting the vulnerable 

we will use every tactic available to us to 

locate, enforce and prosecute you.” 

The new tactic is a joint strategy between 

the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction 

Unit, Cleanslate, Change Grow Live and 

Nottinghamshire Police. 

Violence Reduction Unit director Dave 

Wakelin hopes more vulnerable people 

contact them through the tactic. “If you 

are being exploited, we know that talking 

to someone can be a tough thing to do, 

but there are ways you can stay safe 

whilst accessing help and support.” 

Six officers have been added to the 

force’s county lines proactive team who 

work tirelessly to crack down on serious 

and organised crime networks who pull 

young or vulnerable people into a criminal 

underworld to peddle drugs or carry out 

forced labour. 

County lines is the term used to describe 

criminal gangs who move illegal drugs 

from big cities to rural areas and sell 

them via a dedicated phone line. It 

often involves the use of children and 

vulnerable adults who are recruited and 

exploited by these gangs.

Dog vaccinations 

Vaccinating your pet is a 

key step in protecting your 

pet against life threatening 

diseases. 

Vaccinations boost your 

pet’s immunity and act as 

the first line of defence 

against some very nasty 

and potentially fatal 

diseases. 

Puppies get protection initially in life from their mother’s 

milk and then as they are weaned this protection wanes 

and thus vaccinations are required to maintain it. 

Typically, we vaccinate puppies at 8, 10 and 12 weeks of 

age, to allow for early socialisation at 11 weeks of age. 

The primary puppy course acts to stimulate the body’s 

immune system to produce a protective response then 

the yearly booster afterwards maintains this immunity. 

Cat vaccinations 

Vaccinating your cat is very important for their health 

and for the control of infectious disease, not only for 

your cat but for the cat population as a whole. Kittens 

can typically be vaccinated from 9 and 12 weeks of 

age. The greater the proportion of the population that 

is vaccinated the lower the risk for your cat, even when 

they themselves are vaccinated. 

Rabbit vaccinations 

Rabbit vaccination is available against two fatal 

diseases – Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic 

Disease. Rabbits can typically be vaccinated from 7 

weeks of age. We strongly recommend that all pet 

rabbits be vaccinated on an annual basis with the 

combined vaccination for Myxomatosis and Viral 

Haemorrhagic Disease. 

Booster vaccination after an initial course is vital for all 

rabbits. Remember Scarsdale Vets always combines 

vaccinations with a full health assessment.

organisers behind Splendour 

Festival and Dot To Dot Festival, 

have launched a new summer 

event series, Arboretum Sunset, 

at the Arboretum Garden Bar 

and Bandstand. Taking place 

every Friday, Saturday and 

Sunday through until Sun 5 Sept. 

There is a diverse entertainment 

programme, two container 

bars and rotating street-food 

vendors all centred around the 

park’s iconic bandstand. The 

spacious outdoor location means 

that, even if social distancing 

measures are still in place, all 

events will be able to safely go 

ahead as scheduled.

serene, join Belvoir Castle 

as they transport you back to 

the 1920’s on a fine summer’s

Notts Guided Walks Update... 

With group walking not allowed under 

Covid-19 restrictions, the Notts Guided 

Walks programme and website have been 

unavailable for several months. However, 

some groups are now venturing out and 

have submitted their walks to us, just in 

time for sunny weather. 

The booklets will not be available at all this 

year, but our website:

is now up and running with more 

walks arriving weekly, throughout 

Nottinghamshire. 

For the time being, walk leaders are taking 

great care to prevent Covid-19 infections. If 

you want to try a walk, you can find it easily 

on our website, with a brief description. Please 

contact the leader first to book in, and then 

follow instructions when you assemble.

In the past few 

months, many of us 

have discovered - or 

rediscovered - the 

benefits to health and 

mental well-being of 

walking. Now, local 

ramblers are encouraging 

people to join them as 

they start their regular 

group walks again. 

Broxtowe Ramblers are part of the Ramblers UK 

national walking charity. As such, they are ‘Covid 

secure’ and can walk in slightly larger groups than 

are generally permitted. Each walk is led by an 

experienced ‘rambler’ who will have previously walked 

and ‘risk-assessed’ the route; details of everyone who 

joins a walk are securely recorded for track and trace 

purposes, so you can feel safe when walking with 

them. 

You don’t have to be a member to join a Broxtowe 

Ramblers walk - so why not visit their website and 

see what is on offer? Almost all walks are circular, 

bringing you back to your starting point, and walkers 

bring lunch for a refreshment stop. In current 

circumstances, everyone needs to ‘book ahead’ with 

the walk leader as places on each walk are limited 

to 15 or fewer (check website/Walks Programme for 

details). 

Broxtowe Ramblers are a friendly bunch and walks 

are as much (socially-distanced) socialising as 

healthy exercise. Over the coming months we will 

be trying to find out what kinds of walk - and at what 

times - others would like, leading perhaps to shorter 

walks and more weekend - or even evening - walks.
