4. If someone makes the intention of stay but his condition indicates

that he will not be staying in Makkaĥ nor in Madīnaĥ, then his

intention is not correct. For example, he intends to perform

Hajj and makes the intention of staying in Makkaĥ whereas the

month of Żul-Ḥijjaĥ has arrived then his intention is worthless.

As he has intended to perform Hajj, he will not be staying for

15 days because he will be moving to Minā and ‘Arafāt on 8

and 9 Żul-Ḥijjaĥ respectively. How is it possible for him to stay

in Makkaĥ Mukarramaĥ (for 15 consecutive days)? If he makes

the intention of stay after he has returned from Minā, it is

correct because it is now possible for him to stay in Makkaĥ

Mukarramaĥ for 15 days or more. If it is highly likely that he

will move to Madīna-tul-Munawwaraĥ or to his own country

then he will be considered as a traveller.

5. By the time of the writing of this account, the distance between

the end of the populated areas of Jeddah and the beginning of

the populated areas of Makkaĥ is 53 kilometres by road and 47

kilometres by air. The distance between the end of the populated

areas of Jeddah and the beginning of ‘Arafāt is 78 kilometres by

one route, 80 kilometres by two other routes and 67 kilometres

by air. Therefore, whether residents of Jeddah go to Makkaĥ

from Jeddah or they directly go to ‘Arafāt, they are to offer

complete Ṣalāĥ without Qaṣr.

6. You can offer the Ṣalāĥ of Farḍ, Witr, Sunnaĥs, Nawāfil, etc.

while travelling by air. There is no need to repeat these Ṣalāĥs.

Offer Farḍ, Witr, Sunnaĥ of Fajr while facing Qiblaĥ as usual.

It is possible to offer the Ṣalāĥ while standing by washroom or

kitchen or at the tail of the airplane. You can also offer the rest

of Sunnaĥs and Nawāfil whilst sitting during travel. To face the

Qiblaĥ in this situation is not a condition. [For more details,

read ‘Traveller’s Ṣalāĥ’, a booklet included in ‘Laws of Ṣalāĥ’.]
