“We have been terribly and systematically missed led for over
70 years about Marijuana and I apologize for my role in that”
Over the last year, I have been working on a new documentary
called “Weed.” The title “Weed” may sound cavalier, but the
content is not.
I traveled around the world to interview medical leaders, experts,
growers and patients. I spoke candidly to them, asking
tough questions. What I found was stunning.
Long before I began this project, I had steadily reviewed the scientific
literature on medical marijuana from the United States
and thought it was fairly unimpressive. Reading these papers five
years ago, it was hard to make a case for medicinal marijuana. I
even wrote about this in a TIME magazine article, back in 2009,
titled “Why I would Vote No on Pot.”
Well, I am here to apologize.
I apologize because I didn’t look hard enough, until now. I didn’t
look far enough. I didn’t review papers from smaller labs in other
countries doing some remarkable research, and I was too dismissive
of the loud chorus of legitimate patients whose symptoms
improved on cannabis.

9
I have seen more patients like Charlotte first hand, spent time with them and
come to the realization that it is irresponsible not to provide the best care we
can as a medical community, care that could involve marijuana.
We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the
United States, and I apologize for my own role in that.
I hope this article and upcoming documentary will help set the record straight.
On August 14, 1970, the Assistant Secretary of Health, Dr. Roger O. Egeberg
wrote a letter recommending the plant, marijuana, be classified as a schedule
1 substance, and it has remained that way for nearly 45 years. My research
started with a careful reading of that decades old letter. What I found was unsettling.
Egeberg had carefully chosen his words:
“Since there is still a considerable void in our knowledge of the plant and effects
of the active drug contained in it, our recommendation is that marijuana
be retained within schedule 1 at least until the completion of certain studies
now underway to resolve the issue.”

10
Not because of sound science, but because
of its absence, marijuana was classified
as a schedule 1 substance. Again,
the year was 1970. Egeberg mentions
studies that are underway, but many
were never completed. As my investigation
continued, however, I realized Egeberg
did in fact have important research
already available to him, some of it from
more than 25 years earlier.
High risk of abuse
In 1944, New York Mayor Fiorello
LaGuardia commissioned research to be
performed by the New York Academy of
Science. Among their conclusions: they
found marijuana did not lead to significant
addiction in the medical sense of the
word. They also did not find any evidence
marijuana led to morphine, heroin or cocaine
addiction.
We now know that while estimates vary,
marijuana leads to dependence in around
9 to 10% of its adult users. By comparison,
cocaine, a schedule 2 substance
“with less abuse potential than
schedule 1 drugs” hooks 20% of those
who use it. Around 25% of heroin users
become addicted.
The worst is tobacco, where the number
is closer to 30% of smokers, many of
whom go on to die because of their addiction.
There is clear evidence that in some people
marijuana use can lead to withdrawal
symptoms, including insomnia, anxiety
and nausea. Even considering this, it is hard to make a case that it has a high potential for abuse. The physical symptoms of
marijuana addiction are nothing like those of the other drugs I’ve mentioned. I have seen the withdrawal from alcohol, and it
can be life threatening.
I do want to mention a concern that I think about as a father. Young, developing brains are likely more susceptible to harm
from marijuana than adult brains. Some recent studies suggest that regular use in teenage years leads to a permanent decrease
in IQ. Other research hints at a possible heightened risk of developing psychosis.
Much in the same way I wouldn’t let my own children drink alcohol, I wouldn’t permit marijuana until they are adults. If they
are adamant about trying marijuana, I will urge them to wait until they’re in their mid-20s when their brains are fully developed.

11
Medical benefit
While investigating, I realized
something else quite important.
Medical marijuana is not new,
and the medical community has
been writing about it for a long
time. There were in fact hundreds
of journal articles, mostly
documenting the benefits. Most
of those papers, however, were
written between the years 1840
and 1930. The papers described
the use of medical marijuana
to treat “neuralgia, convulsive
disorders, emaciation,”
among other things.
A search through the U.S. National
Library of Medicine this
past year pulled up nearly
2,000 more recent papers.
But the majority were research
into the harm of marijuana,
such as “Bad trip due to anticholinergic
effect of cannabis,”
or “Cannabis induced pancreatitits”
and “Marijuana use and
risk of lung cancer.”
In my quick running of the numbers,
I calculated about 6% of
the current U.S. marijuana studies
investigate the benefits of
medical marijuana. The rest are
designed to investigate harm.
That imbalance paints a highly
distorted picture.
The challenges of marijuana
research
To do studies on marijuana in
the United States today, you
need two important things.
First of all, you need marijuana.
And marijuana is illegal. You
see the problem. Scientists can
get research marijuana from a
special farm in Mississippi,
which is astonishingly located in
the middle of the Ole Miss campus,
but it is challenging. When
I visited this year, there was no
marijuana being grown.
The second thing you need is
approval, and the scientists I
interviewed kept reminding me
how tedious that can be. While a
cancer study may first be evaluated
by the National Cancer Institute,
or a pain study may go
through the National Institute for
Neurological Disorders, there is
one more approval required for
marijuana: NIDA, the National
Institute on Drug Abuse. It is an
organization that has a core mission
of studying drug abuse, as
opposed to benefit.
Stuck in the middle are the legitimate
patients who depend on
marijuana as a medicine, oftentimes
as their only good option.
Keep in mind that up until 1943,
marijuana was part of the United
States drug pharmacopeia. One
of the conditions for which it was
prescribed was neuropathic
pain. It is a miserable pain that’s
tough to treat. My own patients
have described it as “lancinating,
burning and a barrage of pins
and needles.” While marijuana
has long been documented to
be effective for this awful pain,
the most common medications
prescribed today come from the
poppy plant, including morphine,
oxycodone and dilaudid.
Here is the problem. Most of
these medications don’t work
very well for this kind of pain,
and tolerance is a real problem.
Most frightening to me is that
someone dies in the United
States every 19 minutes from a
prescription drug overdose,
mostly accidental. Every 19
minutes. It is a horrifying statistic.
As much as I searched, I
could not find a documented
case of death from marijuana
overdose.
It is perhaps no surprise then
that 76% of physicians recently
surveyed said they would
approve the use of marijuana
to help ease a woman’s pain
from breast cancer.
When marijuana became a
schedule 1 substance, there
was a request to fill a “void in
our knowledge.” In the United
States, that has been challenging
because of the infrastructure
surrounding the study of
an illegal substance, with a
drug abuse organization at the
heart of the approval process.
And yet, despite the hurdles,
we have made considerable
progress that continues today.
Looking forward, I am especially
intrigued by studies like
those in Spain and Israel looking
at the anti-cancer effects of
marijuana and its components.
I’m intrigued by the neuroprotective
study by Raphael
Meschoulam in Israel, and research
in Israel and the United
States on whether the drug
might help alleviate symptoms
of PTSD. I promise to do my
part to help, genuinely and
honestly, fill the remaining void
in our knowledge.
Citizens in 20 states and the
District of Columbia have now
voted to approve marijuana for
medical applications, and more
states will be making that
choice soon. As for Dr. Roger
Egeberg, who wrote that letter
in 1970, he passed away 16
years ago.
I wonder what he would think if
he were alive today.

Officers in tactical gear descended on NJ Weedman's
arrests and shutting down the eatery.
Owner Ed Forchion, better known as NJ Weedman,
opened up the eatery across from City Hall to fanfare
last year.
The building and the adjacent Liberty Bell Sanctuary - a
"cannabis church" he runs - were sealed off with police
“THEWEEDMAN” Challenge was not easy but
he still believe that the system is trying to Find
a way to prevent black people from owning
cannabis distribution of which he finds it very
wrong and also a slap in black people face.
Because we all know the herb belong to the
black man, white man called it all kind of
names to shift it from us, but it is ours and we
must given the right to keep it.
B.O.B. Magazine
seed. “Nothing will change for me if pot becomes legal,” Forchion said. “None of us suddenly become legal, it doesn’t do anything
arrested, go to a jury trial, have the jury nullify the law, open the playbook up so others can follow. Only hitch in the plan is he
Statehouse last September. And so what happens if that happens again? “If they don’t arrest me, then that means I’ll be back th
1,000 people like me decide we’re going to sell weed just like the rich corporations, what are they going to do?” he asked. “So do
tle for over 20 years, and clearly, he’s not going to stop until … well, he’s probably never going to stop, at least not until marijuana
his social media channels. He’ll probably be announcing where his partaking pop-up will puff into existence in the hours leading up

25
“Forchion is not getting a license. He has a felony marijuana conviction. He thinks this
is ridiculous. And so, in what should come as a surprise to no one, he’s planning to do
something about. His plan? To openly start selling marijuana, starting on Thursday at
a location to be disclosed. He plans on getting arrested. And then he plans to do what
he’s always done: Agitate the hell out of the judicial system in an effort to prove his
points
If and when marijuana becomes legal in New Jersey - and we’ll probably find out a lot
more about that this
week - there will be some
twisted poetry in the law.
Basically, people who
are currently in the illegal
marijuana business will
have pretty much zero
“This is a two pronged
offensive here,” he said.
“This isn’t about legalization
only, it’s also about
me promoting jury nullification.
I’m saying the
prosecution can’t get 12
people to convict me.
They’re going to see the
same thing I see. They’re
going to go, ‘oh, he’s right. All these people getting into the business, and guys like him can’t?’”
Fact is, he’s got a point. New Jersey’s law - if passed - will be the strictest legalization law in
the land. No chance for anyone with a prior conviction - marijuana or not - to get into the business,
no carve-out for home growers. New Jerseyans will not be allowed to plant even one
for us. Honestly, I don’t even want legalization if this is how it’s going to be.” So Forchion’s plan is pretty simple: Sell weed, get
might not get arrested. A state police officer refused to arrest Forchion when he was openly smoking and selling in front of the
e next day,” he said. “And the day after that.” Per usual, Forchion is seeking to blaze a trail for other like-minded individuals. If
we sit back and watch and complain or do we do something?” Forchion is a do-er, as evidenced by his fighting the marijuana batrights
are written into the United States Constitution. n the meantime, if you’d like to buy some of Forchion’s weed, stay tuned to
to the sale. Should be a hoot. Bring popcorn.”

“As New Jersey politicians ed ever closer to bringing a regulated cannabis market to the Garden State, black
Legalization of recreational cannabis is likely coming to New Jersey soon, which isn't news to illicit dealers s
the goals of legalization is to crush the illicit markets, many of these black market dealers say legalization w
will probably buy through legal channels at first, but taxes will eventually drive them to the black market.”
"You're going to get people who don't know their left from their right and won't know what to ask. That's who
while, it'll be: 'Why am I paying taxes on this? Why am I paying double the price?' pricing is one major area w
safety regulations and environmental concerns often drive the cost of legal marijuana up to levels beyond wh

27
market dealers say they're not worried about losing business.
nce Governor Phil Murphy (D) made marijuana reform a key part of his gubernatorial platform. While one of
ill only make them more relevant. One street dealer says that consumers who are unfamiliar with cannabis
the state's going to capitalize on," DC, an illicit cannabis seller told the Asbury Park Press. "But, after a
here legal markets across the country have struggled to compete with the black market. Taxes, health and
at illegal sellers need to charge for their product.”
Illicit dealers say the underground cannabis industry has other advantages
over legitimate channels too. There is a pride and passion in the underground
market that consumers don't see in legal dispensaries, according to DC.
"You come to the underground and people know what they're talking about.
People are proud of what they do and the quality that they put themselves behind.
People are so passionate about it and so passionate about what they
do—even if it's technically illegal."
And as legalization slowly moves into the state, arrests for possession and
use of marijuana have begun to trail off. Police are increasingly directed to
place cannabis-related crimes low on their priority list, or to ignore them altogether.
Because of this, pop-up cannabis markets can be heavily promoted
on social media and even sell entry tickets through big event promotion websites
like Eventbrite without fear of being shut down, says Ed Forchion - the
cannabis advocate best known as NJWeedman.
"If the cops wanted to stop these from happening, they would have by now,"
he said.
But some illicit cannabis dealers admit they would love to enter the legal market
one day. However, turning legit is harder than it sounds.
"That's the dream for a lot of people, for a lot of regular guys. If you have the
clientele, if you know the right people, if you have legitimate money to back
you and politicians on your side, you might end up in a decent situation," said
David, another illicit cannabis dealer. "But who does? Nobody in an urban situation
in New Jersey has the resources to operate under the guidelines they
want you to operate under. There are restrictions that are impossible to meet."
Meanwhile, in Canada - the second country in the world to legalize recreational
cannabis - the majority of recreational sales are made through the
black market, so the New Jersey dealers might be right when they say
there's no need to worry about going out of business””

For years the Rastafarian community has never been respected by the system, who chooses to systematically hold down the rights
of human being under the name of law. By now we clearly see a breakthrough for us to live without that burden of just being
yourself. If you used herb as means of de-stress or as a means of health which ever way , I “N” I are please to see Rastafari ones
are in control of his or Her own destiny, we truly thankful for those who yield to our causes in this regard ….B.O.B. Magazine

bang ever. His new marijuana themed lounge, The Joint of
Miami, located in Miami’s trendy Wynwood Art District, officially
THE ART DISTRICT WEL-
COME “NJWEEDMAN” AND
“THE JOINT OF MAMI”
In addition to his decades of
legalization activism, Forchion
is well known for his entertaining
pot party productions. His
legendary marijuana mansion
events hosted in Los Angeles’
THE NJWEEDMAN make it clear that his
health situation with the bone cancer the
only thing ease his pain is the cannabis , and
as an American Rastaman he has all right to
declare himself to the relevant authority,
and he did.
A stone believer in this plant and the benefits
that’s he himself have benefitted mentally
physically and financially. His relentless pursued
led him to victory not just for himself
but for Rastas all over the globe...
And show the world America is for the people
He is also the founder of the joint of Miami
The Joint of New Jersey and the “Legalization
Party “ a political force to be recon with.
The NJWeedman truly believes. I tend to
share his opinion that the more weed is accessible
to the masses . Would we have a
opiate problem ? The answer is no.. Because
more people turn to other things because
they cant get the weed. Then they make a
faulty claim that weed is the gate way to
harder drugs . No it is not, if the people have
easy access to weed the other drugs would
have become unimportant & unnecessary ..
And come to find out its not the same high
it’s a artificial high but the herb get you right
it has many benefits that was ignored because
of the stigma of the war on drugs. The
propaganda war machines and methods of
war and false hood they puts on the weed .
All the great Dr’s. and Scientist of the world
are slowly discovering that this plant is seriously
made for us . To help us. Not destroy us
like the opiate, that are killing us of which
they prescribe to us to kill us, tell me one person
ever overdose on weed, please tell me
The War is won we are Triumphant and we
need to be in first place moving forward with
this weed One Love ..

The Known keepers of the “roots rock reggae in south Florida” Jah Steve & the Counteract crew, with the original studio one Drummer
“Benbow” Jah Steve is a renown south Florida entertainer for many years and I personally can tell you this, he never give up
the fight . Bob magazine originally met him at “fat Cats” downtown Ft. Lauderdale they were playing the music like they invented
it, so I ask to sing a song and brother Steve let me, after singing that song which of Corse was a wailers song, entitled “Stir it up”
because I didn't do a rehearsal. I want to make it simply, the crowd erupts and cry for more so I ask for “get up stand up” and it
leads to war then Gregory no 1 it was a blast that night the band was called “Fourth Dimension” THEN. To say what happen I
couldn't say
But one thing I know is, he is back on the seen with the counteract crew and will also be the backing Band For reggae legend
Swelele, who just happens to be the son of the late great Tony DaCosta former lead singer of the SKatterlights and one of Jamaica's
pioneer musician who thought plenty younger Jamaicans how to play the music, we also have Mr. Lee Kelly who is also no
stranger to the music scene in south Florida and star from the movie “Top Shottas” Prince Guzigar the multi media Man promoting
his latest single “JUST A MATTER OF TIME” the show is set for July 30th a Friday night at the “JOINT Of MIAMI” 2010 NW.
