On May 29, 1926, the Archbishop of York, Cosmo
Lang, baptized her under the Anglican religion in
the private chapel of Buckingham Palace
(destroyed during the bombings of London in
World War II). She was named "Isabel" in honor of
her mother, "Alexandra" by the mother of George V
(her paternal great-grandmother), who had died six
months earlier, and "Mary" by her paternal grandmother.
