The Editor
SulSul Readers,
My gran used to say “a lot can happen in a
year” and boy, was she right. This month we
celebrate our one-year birthday here at
SimmedUp and what a year it has been. A
year ago, I left a comment on SimSimmerly’s
Tweet about a Sims magazine and here we
are today, a large team of people that love
The Sims and creating content. This year has
been a year of growth. Our team is bigger,
the magazine is bigger and we have two
additional magazines.

This year we’ve all lost loved ones,
welcomed new little humans, gotten
married, gotten divorced, lost jobs, started
new adventures and grown as Simmers and
humans but the one constant has been and
will always be The Sims and our community.
This month we also celebrate 7 years of The
Sims 4 and this year The Sims franchise
turned 21 and what a ride it has been.
We talk to Lumpinou, our very first modder
featured in issue 1 on what she’s been up to
this year. SimSimmerly and myself open up
about who we are and how this all started
and we talk to the amazing Tazreen Tasmin
about her unique Sims art.
Yes, a lot can happen in a year so with only
four months left of this one we hope you
make the best of it by having fun with us.
Happy Simming
Sue

Happy birthday to SimmedUp magazine! In one
year, they’ve made an inclusive and fun
environment for people to come and share their love
for The Sims! A magazine for The Sims is definitely
something that was needed in the community, and
the people at SimmedUp magazine executed it
perfectly! Here’s to many more years to come!

I'm not great at taking screenshots as

chilling, reading a book with some
coffee and suddenly looking at Hair

Tips, Tricks, and Secrets That May Blow Your Mind
Whether you are a veteran player, or you are just joining The Sims franchise, there are
probably some things that you don’t know about the game. SimmedUp has you covered
with some of the coolest secrets of The Sims 4!
The Curse of The Night:
If you own Realm of Magic and have played
this pack then you know the power of Sims
4 magic. Unfortunately, when your Sim has
an overcharge failure, they may end up with
the curse of the
night stalker. If
afflicted with
this curse, a
ghostly figure
will stalk your
Sim, scaring
t h e m
randomly, and
causing them
to have difficulty
sleeping.
It Is Possible That Your Sims Love Fruit
cake:
We all dread the welcome wagon, but did
you know your Sim may actually enjoy
fruitcake? It is true. All Sims are not created
equal. Sims will either love or hate fruitcake.
This preference is randomized at creation
and the only way to know if you Sims love
or hate this delicacy is to give it a try. A Sim
who likes fruit cake has an advantage
because fruitcake does not expire and can
be carried in their personal inventory to
ward off starvation. So, stop avoiding your
friendly neighbors and try their damn
fruitcake!
Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice:
Using the bug hotel from Eco Lifestyle,
regularly farm beetles as you raise your
14
mixology skill.
When you reach
Level 10 of
mixology and
have collected
some beetle
nuggets, you
can mix up
some Beetle
Juice. If your
Sim drinks three
Beetle Juice
drinks quickly
they will
instantly die
and become a
playable ghost.
That Horrible Gift May Haunt You:
Gifting a knitted sweater to your boyfriend
or girlfriend will give your Sim ‘The Sweater
Curse.’ This curse lasts about a week and
makes romantic interactions more likely to
fail. What’s more is that this curse also
makes it so that you lose triple the points
on the romance meter when your romantic
interactions do fail, making those wedding
bell dreams seem like a nightmare.
Palatable Game play:
When eating food from the market stalls in
City Living, or when trying experimental
food while at a restaurant in Dine Out, your
Sims will learn the recipe for the food that
they ate. Once a recipe is acquired, your
Sims can create the meal at home and
enjoy a wider variety of meals to choose
from when cooking. Experimental foods
require your Sim to have at least level 5
cooking skill to create, however, but may
motivate you to spend more time in the
kitchen.
You Can Befriend Your Smart Speaker or
Talking Toilet:
If you are like me,
being social is
not your strong
suit. Thankfully,
The Sims has a
solution for this
issue. You can
chat with and
e v e n t u a l l y
become friends
with your smart
speaker or talking
toilet. Once you have formed a
friendship, these items will offer up new
interactions. In return for your friendship,
the speaker will order food and hire a maid
on its own. The toilet will allow your Sims to
watch T.V. while using the toilet and can
give your Sim a massage while they are in
dispose, which will increase hygiene.
Give The Gift of Death:
At level 9 of the flower arranging skill, Sims
can scent an excellent-level bouquet with
Death Flowers. This bouquet will age up any
sims that is below the age of elder and will
instantly kill an elder Sim if they are given
this as a gift. (Great for that Black Widow
Challenge you’ve been playing.)
There is a Secret Channel in The Sims:
While in the scientist career from Get to
work, your Sims can create a "satellite
dish" using the Invention Constructor. If
you place this satellite dish on your home
lot you will access a new television station
on your TV that is filled with alien television
shows.
One Book That Is Worth Reading:
If your Sims complete
the Bestselling
Author Aspiration,
they will gain the
Poetic Trait. This trait
allows your Sim to
write The Book of
Life. When this book
is bound to a Sim, it
allows you to
instantly refill needs,
and can even bring people back from the
dead. Unfortunately, you cannot bind this
book to yourself, it must be gifted to
another Sim or you must receive one as a
gift from someone else.
Addicted To Grilled Cheese:
The Grilled Cheese Aspiration is the only
hidden aspiration in The Sims 4.
Preparing and eating 3 grilled cheese in a
row will add The Grilled Cheese Aspiration
to your game and allow your Sims to
become a Melt Master. Upon switching to,
and completing, this aspiration Sims will be
able to summon a grilled cheese sandwich
at will and they will never go hungry again!
15
Trash Can Truly Be Treasure:
If your Sims is a true slob and is
too lazy to pick up their trash,
you may discover that trash
pile has turned into a plant.
The Trash Plant, is created
when garbage (or pet poop)
sits out on the lawn for too
long. This odd-looking, noxious
plant bears fruit that can but eaten or
used for recipes in the game.
Your Sim Is a Jerk, Seriously:
Seriously. Did you know that Sims can
laugh at an enemy’s grave? What’s worse
is that they will get a happy moodlet from
doing it. Yeah, your Sims is super twisted!
That Wish Could Kill You:
Wishing Wells were introduced to The Sims
4 with the romantic Garden pack. Pretty as
these objects may be, they are also
extremely dangerous. Did you know that
the wishing well could kill you? Well, you
know now! If
the wishing
well is so
inclined, this
b e l o v e d
garden decor
may just snap
one day and
end your
perfect Sim
life. There is a
plethora of
ways that the
wishing well
can kill you, it
can burn you to death, give you a heart
attack, make you laugh yourself to death,
have your Sim die from embarrassment, or
simply vaporize you by instantly turning
you into a ghost. What is worse is that
when a ghost makes a wish to be brought
back to life, there is a chance that this
statuesque object will resurrect your Sim
only to instantly kill them again just as they
come to the realization that their wishes
have all come true (Now that is just cruel)
… May be time to rethink your
landscaping!
16
Left or Right?:
EA is sometimes surprising in their detail.
Generated Sims will be created either left
or right-handed. You cannot choose
which but you can cheat this using the
following cheat codes:
traits.remove_trait trait_handedness_right.
traits. equip_trait trait_handedness_left.
Escape Sim City:
You probably already know that there are
hidden worlds in Sims 4. There are 4
hidden worlds in total, two of which came
with basegame.
Sylvan Glade: This world is accessed from
Foundry Cove in Willow creek by
interacting with the tree that is located on
the lot beside Crick Cabana.
o To access Sylvan Glade, click the
large, mysterious tree and view it a few
times.
o From there you will be given the
option to ‘water tree.’ Do this a few times.
o The next option that will appear will
be to ‘Compliment Leaves.’ Do this until an
opening appears in the tree.
o At this point your Sim will be able to
enter the opening and ‘Explore.’
o Once inside, you will be met with a
series of pop-ups. The answers to the popups
are listed below, you must answer
correctly if you want access to this world…
o Follow the sound.
o Follow downstream.
o
o
Enter the mist.
You then choose to travel to Sylvan
Glade
o You will now see a loading screen,
and your Sims will be transported to Sylvan
Glade.
Here you can find collectibles and fish in
either of the two fishing spots in this world.
This is one of the only places that your
Sims can catch the sought-after Tree Fish
to complete your fishing aspiration.
Forgotten Grotto: This world is in Oasis
Springs and there are two entrances to this
area, one behind the Landgrab house, and
one in Dessert Bloom Park. To access this
hidden world your Sims must have level 10
handiness as they will need to break apart
the wood that is blocking the entrance.
Cheat the Handiness Skill by typing
the following into the cheat bar
after pressing Ctrl+Shift+C
testingcheats true (press Enter)
stats.set_skill_level Major_Handiness 10
Just like the other hidden world, there are
a series of questions you must answer to
enter.
o
o
o
o
Take wide path
Climb ladder
Step onto the ledge.
Travel to Grotto
Your Sim will now be given the option
to travel to Forgotten Grotto. This
world is home to the rainbow fish and
other collectibles.
you will come across a shrub hole opening
that you can click on and explore. Like the
other hidden worlds, answer the pop-up
questions as follows:
o Step Forward
o Go through the web
o
o
Do NOT take a nap
Travel towards the Sim.
You will now be prompted to visit the
Deep Woods and you will see
another loading screen.
Within the deep woods, you can visit the
hermit who
lives there. The
hermit lives
alone in small
cabin deep in
the woods.
Once you are in
the Deep
Woods, you
can harvest the
various plants
that grow in the area or befriend the
hermit. Be friendling the hermit allows you
to travel back to visit them any time you
wish, and it is just fun to have a secret
friend that no one else knows about.
Sixam: A world from Get to Work, Sixam is
the last hidden world on this list, and one
of the most difficult to reach. There are
two ways that your Sims can get to Sixam,
the first involves building a rocket ship and
adding a wormhole generator. The second
is to obtain a wormhole generator, which is
unlocked at level 10 of the science career,
and use it to travel to space and on to
Sixam. (Sixam is Maxis, backwards btw)
On planet Sixam, you will find many new
collectibles and you can make friends with
aliens who can be found wandering around
this world.
The Deep Woods (Aka, Hermits House):
This hidden world came with Outdoor
Retreat. Located in Granite Falls, to access
the deep woods you need to have your
Sims explore the forest or locate the cabin
in the woods. While exploring the forest,

I am so excited, Beni, to be featuring
you and your wonderful Machinima,
Age of Darkness in this special issue of
SimmedUp Magazine. Of course, I
always must start with the usual
question! When did you start playing
The Sims, and what got you started?
Thank you so much for featuring and
interviewing me. It’s exciting.
I got familiar with The Sims 2 back around
2006-2007 when I saw my cousins play it all
the time. It seemed very interesting, but I
preferred watching them play rather than
playing with it myself. Then, I think it was in
2013, so it was actually the very last year of
The Sims 3, when I bought the game for my
sister’s birthday and we both started playing
and have been ever since.
What is your favorite Sims game and
why?
Definitely The Sims 3. It has so much content it
never gets boring in my opinion. I also consider
myself lucky because I didn’t really have
lagging issues with it, which was a huge
problem for most of the players.
What type of game play do you enjoy
the most?
It might come as a shock, considering that my
series is supernatural but the only game play
that excites me is family game play. My first
sim is usually a young adult woman who
struggles at work to achieve her dreams.
When she gets to a certain level in her career,
she starts dating and a couple of weeks later
she’s married with 3 kids. I also love slowly
adjusting the starter homes to the family and
I always stay on the same lot where I started.
Nothing else feels like home.
20
I certainly share this with you!
Whenever I start a new save, I like to
start with a single female, no money,
trash apartment. Then, it seems like the
first time she leaves her house she
meets someone and gets pregnant. My
current household has eight kids. Let’s
not talk about what the genealogy of my
personal save looks like!
Why did you start making machinima,
and how long have you been making
them?
I was always into film-making, me, my sister,
and my cousins used to film tons of movies
when we were kids, we filmed news broadcast
spoofs as well, and it was super fun! Then I came
across Miboy1991’s series called INSIDE, and I was
stunned. It was around 2016 and I thought I had
to give it a try. My first ever machinima, The
Hotel, ran for 13 episodes in 2017 but I got
overwhelmed and stopped making it. I was also
not really part of the machinima community
back then, which is completely on me because I
was such a lone wolf around that time. Then
when the pandemic hit last year, I had a ton of
free time so I thought: “Why shouldn’t I give it
another go?” I had plenty of stories planned out
and I went with Age of Darkness. It was very
different when I started it but I am very proud of
what it has become.
I feel like 2020 was the year for creators
to start, or to restart exploring making
content. Most of us had more free time
on our hands than we had ever
experienced before. I believe this was a
big part of the return of the machinima.
Not that it went away completely, but
there was certainly a lull in what and how
many new series were being developed.
What do you love the most about being a
machinima director?
I love that I’m able to tell my stories visually,
and with the help of the amazing voice actors
in the community, make it feel just like a real TV
show. It is stressful to produce one episode
but when I see the end product, that joy, that
feeling in my stomach is worth every hour I
spend with it.
I would argue that every machinima
director who reads this will agree with
you. I did the math and figured that it
takes about 1 hour of production for 1
minute of finished product. Even more
when making a voice machinima,
because it adds about five more layers
of production tasks and creative work
to the process.
What would you say has been the
biggest learning curve for you?
I was definitely struggling with filming in the
beginning. To start off, my computer was very
old, and was not designed to be the home for
my series. When I got my new PC, a whole new
world of possibilities opened up. No more
lagging, no more freezing. I was finally able to
experiment with filming and learned a lot of
techniques over the last couple of months. And
I am still learning every day which I’d say is the
most important part of being a content
creator. Constantly growing, becoming better
and better. All the hard work pays off
eventually.
22
That is so very true Beni! As creators,
we need to look at our work as
progressive. Our earlier episodes will
look different than our more recent
ones because we are constantly
perfecting our craft and growing. When
I look at my earlier episodes, I see them
as when I was learning, and love to see
how my skill has progressed over the
last 18 months.
Tell us about your series, Age of
Darkness.
It’s a fantasy series set in the fictional town of
Eastbourn. It’s vampires, witches and humans
trying to co-exist, while constantly trying to
get above the others. The story starts off with
a double homicide. A vampire kills two witches,
which causes chaos in the whole town and
works as a catalysator for the real story. The
Vampire Community and the Coven are at each
others throats and Zack and the mayor are
trying to maintain peace for the good of the
citizens.
While all this tension is unfolding, we find out
that the remaining Firewitches are fighting
against their species’ extinction and that the
Coven might be up to some trouble as well. In
Eastbourn, you never know who’s going to
stab you in the back.
The series also deals with subjects like
betrayal, domestic abuse, rape etc. Also, the
main plot, the unnecessary enmity between
vampires and witches mirrors the real world in
some ways, as we are living in a world where
racial, sexual and gender equality is still an
issue. I am glad to tackle issues like that
without it being too much on the nose.
One of the things I love the most about
your series is how it mixes fantasy
with real life. Even if one person views it
and says, “Maybe I’m not the only one
who feels this way,” it is all worth it.
Of all the characters, which one do you
feel you identify with the most, and
why?
I would say Zack and Reese are the two I
identify with the most. Reese, because we see
what she puts herself through for her best
friend, Bridget (I don’t want to spoil) and I’m
also a person who would do anything for their
friends. And Zack, because much like him, I also
believe that family is the most important thing
in the world. I was lucky enough to grow up in a
loving, absolutely amazing family and I would
not let any of them down ever. I am close with
my parents, my grandparents, my aunts and
uncles, cousins, and my sister too so family is
definitely a huge part of who I am.
Your characters are an extension of
who you are, and that is amazing.
Share with us one tool, one tip and one
trick that you cannot live without when
making your machinima.
The MC Command Center, it is such a helpful
tool, everything you could possibly need while
filming is in one place, and it is very easy to use.
I would say that the most important thing is to
work on projects that you truly like. Because if
you do something passionately, it will show on
the result and your viewers will notice if you
don’t enjoy making your own content.
That is such an important mindset! If
we are focused on making content for
numbers, that is where burnout
happens. But, when we are focused on
making content because we love to tell
stories in this unique way, we can enjoy
the process. People notice the
difference.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
To be honest, I can’t really point out one certain
person who inspires me. Because whenever I
see someone’s excitement about releasing
their new machinima, or when I see machinima
directors being proud of their own work, I am
as inspired as ever.
This machinima community is filled with
inspiration, I would agree!
If you could meet any Simmer IRL, who
would that be and why?
Oh gosh, there are so many! But I think I have to
point out Tia aka Serendipitia. She has been one
of the biggest supporters of my and everyone
else’s work, while also doing her own project.
There is so much passion in her for the
community and machinimas in general that I
would love to get the chance to meet this
someone this amazing IRL one day. Another
simmer I’d like to meet is Plumbella. She is so
freaking funny without even trying, and not
afraid to be herself. But I know she suffers
from anxiety so she probably wouldn’t
appreciate if I randomly stopped her on the
street to get some coffee and I respect that.
“I would say that the most
important thing is to work on
projects that you truly like.
Because if you do something
passionately, it will show on
the result”
Tia is such a breath of fresh air and
such a great supporter of our
community. So, I would be remiss to not
give her a shout as well.
What do you appreciate the most
about being part of the larger Sims
Community? What do you wish was
different about the community?
Finding all these talented, super nice,
supportive friends, connecting with others
from across the world, learning new things
from each other. The way we lift each other up
when someone’s feeling down about their
work. The way we stand up for people who get
bullied online is also a really-really wholesome
thing. These things might apply more to the
Machinima Community than the entire Sims
Community.
I feel like the bigger someone is as a creator
23
(bigger as in more popular), the less supportive
they are of other, smaller creators. There are
exceptions, of course, on both sides but I feel
like some bigger Simmers could use their
platform for some more support.
You make an important point Beni.
First, that we get out of a community
what we put into it. When we show up
positive, kind, transparent and
supportive we get that in return. The
Machinima Community is unique and we
tend to have each others backs when
things get rough. Personally, while I
absolutely love telling stories and
making machinima, it would be a
useless exercise if I did not get to do it
in community. Giving and receiving
support has been the greatest joy for
me, especially highlighting creators in
this publication.
When you’re not making machinima,
what do you enjoy doing?
I mostly spend my free time with either
friends or family. The family gathers at my
Grandparents’ every Saturday, and me and my
friends are also very close. Besides work, I
don’t really have time for other things, but I
don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything
honestly.
What is one goal, one hope and one
challenge you have for your YouTube
channel?
Numbers don’t really interest me, luckily,
which is probably very good for my mental
health. The one goal I have is to make content
I’m passionate about and entertain people who
are willing to join me on this wild ride!
That is one of the wisest and most wellbalanced
answers to this question I
have received! Numbers do not define
us. If they start to, then our mental
health suffers.
What didn’t I ask that you want us to
know about you or your work?
I would like to give advice to people who are
about to or are afraid to start making
machinimas or any type of content. (Not like
I’m a veteran or anything HA HA!) And my advice
is: DO IT. Do it because if you like it, it will change
your life for the better. And if you don’t like it,
don’t be afraid to stop. Knowing something
isn’t for you and stepping away from it does
not make you a quitter, it just means you are
brave. So yeah, you have nothing to lose, take
some risks, and start doing whatever you
want NOW.
What a beautiful way to end this article

community would not be the same
without you.

Betrayals of Love
By NolaCrysti
Every betrayal starts with trust, at least that’s how the saying goes. Natalie Haywood
had the perfect teenage life. Loving parents who doted on her, a best friend who had
been there since they were toddlers, and her best friend’s twin brother who loved
Natalie from afar. Slowly, Natalie’s life begins to unravel, and she is left to deal with
multiple betrayals throughout her life.
Life was good, until it wasn’t. How much betrayal is too much?
This is an LP series, currently as a Let’s Play, which is being transitioned over to a
machinima series. Episode 22 begins the machinima episodes, with the previous
episodes in production.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
It’s been a full year! It’s SimmedUp’s 1st
Birthday and boy, has it not been a fun
year full of celebrating people in the Sims
community.
Since it has been one year since
SimmedUp Magazine has been published
each month, I thought it would be fun to
take a look back at the first 9 Simmers
that have been featured in the
Introducing and dig around their socials
to find out where they are now since they
were featured in the Magazine.

Issue 1: Ribbity
Veronica, also
known as Ribbity on
social media, has
been quite busy. She
has surpassed 600
subscribers on
Youtube. She has
started streaming on
Twitch like most
Simmers that want to
share their
experience with a live audience. She has
recently branched out into playing
some other variety games on YouTube.
Issue 2: ElizaNotPanacakes
When looking for ElizaNotPancakes on
social media, I could not find anyone
with this username and thought she had
disappeared from the Sims community.
But, after some more research I have
found that she has changed her
username to TheOtherEliza. These days,
she is supporting the community and
uploading to her youtube channel with
the same name.
Issue 3: FlavaGamer
Flavagamer is still going
strong on social media.
Her YouTube channel
has over 1k subscribers,
so I would say she is not
doing bad. She was
known as making
dollhouse builds and she
is still going with it.
Issue 4: Keelyjinx
Keelyjinx Twitch has
ucing
FlavaGamer
been buzzing. She has over 3k followers and
is still going strong. Although her YouTube is
quite quiet, I think her main focus is on
streaming. She still plays the Sims4, but she
also streams a variety of other games as
Keelyjinx
well. You can support her by
following her Twitch and
subscribing to her YouTube
channel.
Issue 5: Jez
Jez was quite difficult to find on
social media. He was featured
before I started on the SimmedUp
magazine team, so I did not know
anything about him. The Tumblr link
that was used in the article at the
time, does not exist anymore. That
was the only lead I had to work
with. He was known for
manipulating his game images in
photoshop before rshade was a
thing in the community.
Plumbobkingdom
Issue 6 Plumbobkingdom
Who does not know Plumbobkingdom by
now? He is an icon. Roko is from Brazil
and all over my social media. He is always
engaging with the community. His builds
are always breathtaking and something
different.
Issue 7: BlackGurlSimmer
BlackGurlSimmer has been busy.
Although she has not been as active on
her social media, she is supporting the
community by sharing their things on
Twitter. Her YouTube channel has not
been quiet at all. She has been
uploading videos where she does Townie
makeovers. About a month ago, she
wrapped up one of her Let’s Play, based
on the Snowy Escape expansion pack.
Issue 8: Plumbaleena
Plumbalena has been doing very well in the
community. She has gained a lot of
exposure and some of her builds even got
Maxis Fav’s. She is still going strong
building the thing she loves: plants and
houses.
Issue 9: City of Angels
When I featured City of Angels, I did not
know how big this
series would
become. Everyone I
talked to told me
that this will become
a hit. And boy, they
were right. After we
featured her, she
announced season
2 of the series. Now
it’s already in its 3d
season. The creator
announced that the
series will go on an
indefinite hiatus
after season 3 ends.
The series can now
be found on the
BlackGurlSimmer
Plumbeleena
newly launched platform, SimFlix where
you can stream all of the seasons.
I know that this is not all of the Simmers
featured in the introducing section and
that I left out the most recent ones, but
most of them are rising above and
beyond. I am glad the SimmedUp
Magazine has given them a platform
over the 1 year we have been publishing
the magazine, where we can showcase
their talents. As a magazine, that is the
reason we do what we do. It’s a magazine
for the community, by the community. We
support each other. Who knows, maybe
you will be featured next month and you
can also be supported in the community.
Happy Simming everyone!

Happy Birthday from Granny Ruth
It’s SimmedUp Magazine’s first birthday
and what better way to celebrate than
with drinks and cake. The rainbow
cocktail is fun and colourful as any
birthday should be while you can’t go
wrong with a vanilla cake and sprinkles.
Raise a glass to a one of a kind

Classic Vanilla Cake
32
Cake:
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted
butter, at room temperature, plus
more for the pans
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour,
spooned and levelled, plus more
for the pans
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon fine salt
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
5 large eggs, at room temperature
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup milk
Directions
For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350
degrees F. Butter the bottoms and sides
of two 9-inch round cake pans; dust with
flour, and tap out the excess.
Whisk together the flour, baking powder
and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
Beat the butter, sugar and oil in a large
bowl with an electric mixer on mediumhigh
speed until light in colour and fluffy,
about 5 minutes. Beat in the eggs, one at
a time, and then the vanilla until
combined.
Alternate folding the flour mixture and
the milk into the batter with a spatula,
adding the flour in three additions and
the milk in two, starting and ending with
the flour, until just smooth. Divide the
batter evenly between the prepared
pans.
Bake the cakes on the same oven rack
until golden on top and the centers
spring back to the touch, 35 to 40
minutes. Rotate the pans about halfway
through if they seem to be browning
unevenly. Let cool in the pans about 10
minutes, then turn out onto cooling racks
and let cool completely.
For the frosting: While the cakes cool,
beat the butter and salt in a large bowl
with an electric mixer on medium speed
until smooth. Gradually beat in the
confectioners' sugar. Once it's all been
added, increase the speed to mediumhigh,
and beat until white and fluffy. Add
2 tablespoons of the milk, and beat to
incorporate. Beat in the remaining milk,
one tablespoon at a time (the frosting
will be spreadable but not runny).
To assemble: Place 1 cake layer right-side
up on a cake plate or stand, and spread
with 1 cup of the frosting. Top with the
second cake layer. Frost the top and
sides of the cake with the remaining
frosting.
The Double Rainbow
1 ounce vodka
1 ounce St. Germain elderflower
liqueur
4 or so ounces of soda water
4 dashes of grapefruit bitters (Fee
Brothers brand)
lemon peel for garnish
rainbow ice cubes
Make rainbow ice by adding food
colouring to an ice cube tray, filling with
water and freezing. (For more fun with
ice, see the index of all of the ice
experiments on Alcademics here.)
Cut lemon peel into stars. Add all
ingredients to a glass filled with ice in
rainbow order (two cubes per colour,
making it a double complete rainbow).
Garnish with lemon stars.
Please remember to drink responsibly
and thank you for celebrating our 1 st
Birthday with us.
Lots of love, Granny.R xoxo

Tazreen
Arst Extraordinaire, Simmer and Bear
Lover. Tazreen Tasnim is a gem amongst the
simming community, as well as a huge
inspiraon to many. We are very proud to
interview her here for our 1 st Birthday
edion.
36
Who is Tazreen?
Sul sul, simmers! I am Tazreen Tasnim (or short,
Taz). I am just a girl in her 20s who may or may
not be invested too much in the Sims! I am also
a Design student and as I am wring this, I will
be moving to Canada this year to pursue my
studies. (Any Canadian simmers out here?!)
How did you get into digital art?
This is a queson I get asked oen. I like to draw
tradionally; be it pastels, watercolour, sketching
and so on! But, somemes you want to make
your hobbies a lile more interesng. For
example, since I inially taught myself to draw
tradionally, I figured It would be easy to sketch
out my concepts and scan drawings into the
computer. I see many arsts do this, and it is
really effecve because you get to experiment
and switch back and forth between both art
worlds!
Do you have any formal training in art?
This answer might be a bit hazy, so bear with
me! I used to go to pre-school art classes as a
child but ironically, I was not very keen on
drawing back then. As I grew older, my art
teachers in school oen complimented me for
my work, and that gave me a huge confident
boost. As school ended, I had plenty of free me
to take drawing seriously and drew as much as I
can! A lile bit of training always helps for a
head-start
What medium is the hardest to work with?
As of now, the medium I see myself struggling
with are watercolours. Don’t get me wrong, I like
the freedom and beauful uncertaines of the
medium, but I agree with many arsts that while
you can learn to paint in watercolours, it is a
difficult medium to truly master!
What advice would you have for anyone who
wants to start creang digital art?
Great queson! I think it is common to think you
need fancy equipment and tablets to get into
digital art. While a tablet will undoubtedly make
your workflow easier, you don’t necessarily
“need” to have it. I would suggest anyone to
grasp the basics of Adobe Illustrator or any other
vector-based programs. I know that sounds
scary, but trust me, if you have a hobby for
pung ideas and sketches onto paper,
transferring it to Illustrator is a piece of cake,
and YES, drawing with a mouse is definitely
possible!! All you need are the Pen and Pencil
tools.
What programs do you use to create your
pieces?
I mainly use Adobe Illustrator to block in the
main shapes of my pieces, and move on to
Adobe Photoshop for textures and shading for
finalizaon
You sell your art on Redbubble, why did you
pick that plaorm?
Sites like Redbubble are Print-On-Demand sites
that are becoming popular nowadays. What it
means is that they basically take care of
shipping, packaging and transportaon. This is a
huge relief for arsts as it saves you the stress of
shipping, and they deliver right at your doorstep
without any hassle. I have also heard from
customers that their quality is also surprisingly
good considering they are a Print-On-Demand
company.
“This is a tough queson! I am
constantly exploring my art style
because I like experimenng with
different textures, brushes and
colours”
What would you call your style of art?
This is a tough queson! I am constantly
exploring my art style because I like
experimenng with different textures,
brushes and colours. While I do not have a
“fixed” art style, If you are familiar with my
pieces, you may noce that I try to use a
limited colour palee to keep things simple,
even for complicated pieces. I finish off my
works with slight pastel-y brush strokes for
texture. I think that explains why I enjoy the
griy look of pastels both in tradional and
digital art!
When did you start playing The Sims?
Yay! Sims quesons! I started playing The Sims
when I was just 4 years old. Two of my favourite
37
38
cousins introduced me to the game and ll now,
I have never looked back .To this day, they are
surprised that my passion for Sims is sll going
strong!
Where do you get inspiraon for your amazing
builds?
I am very glad you think my builds are amazing.
When it comes to inspiraon for builds, I look at
Pinterest with a completely open mind. For
example, one day, I saw a cuckoo clock come up
on my feed, and thought of building it in the
Sims! Now, a cuckoo clock may not be a typical
architecture, but the beauful thing is feel free
to take inspiraon from anywhere because Sims
allows you such flexibility!
Do you prefer building or decorang?
Ooh, hard queson!! I enjoy doing both
honestly, but if, for instance, the interiors have
way too many rooms, I get a lile bored with
decorang and wonder how many rooms are
sll le, haha. I am sure many builders can
relate
”I enjoy doing both honestly, but if,
for instance, the interiors have way
too many rooms, I get a lile bored
with decorang and wonder how
many rooms are sll le,”
Favourite character to draw?
Thinking deeply about this, I would say
Vladislaus Straud! I once drew him on a piece of
paper, and I had so much fun stylizing the
wicked features on his face! I just realized I have
not digized the drawing yet, so now I have to.
How/When did she come up with Bear theme?
YOGI! I became obsessed with bears when
Outdoor Retreat first came out! Ever since that,
I have named all the bears on this planet Yogi. I
think it is so funny their expressions bear-ly
change when something happens in the game.
11/10 awesome screenshots!
Who are some of the arsts you admire and
why?
To keep things Sims-related, I admire the works
of LuddySimmer and Black Daisies in this
community. LuddySimmer comes up with
artworks of new packs in a maer of seconds! It
gets you excited! As for Black Daisies, I admire
her mix of style between realism and stylized
look. I remember she created a family portrait
of the Goths, and I fell in love! Of course, there
are soooo many other arsts I admire, but I
believe that might take up he whole interview!
Do you use mods and if so, who is your go to?
I am a fairly vanilla simmer. I only use the Pose
Player mod to make my screenshots interesng.
I cannot survive without the Pose Player since I
rely on this mod heavily to make my bear (Yogi)
do swan dives! If you know me on Twier, there
is a chance you may have seen LOTS of silly
diving screenshots from me!
Do you ever get arsts block and if so, what do
you use for inspiraon?
Yes, I do get stuck in the “rut” somemes, but
it’s not the block that bothers me, It’s having
the me to create artworks, especially if you
have so many things going on in RL! For
inspiraon, I like to draw whatever gets me
excited. In tradional sense, I enjoy drawing
landscapes because it keeps me relaxed! There
is something special about painng the rivers,
skies and the world around you
If you could choose just 1 exp, 1 gp and 1 stuff
pack what would she choose?
Ooh, this is tough! I like making use out of every
pack I own, so every pack has a special place in
my heart. But to really answer your queson, I
would choose Coage Living, Strangerville, and
Paranormal Stuff!
What is your favourite thing about The Sims 4
and your least favourite?
My most favourite thing about Sims 4 are the
worlds! It is something that makes me pause
EVERY SECOND in the game. One minute you
are playing the game and the next second you
are distracted by the most amazing sunset in
Glimmerbrook! Though they are stunning, one
of my least favourite things is you are prompted
with a loading screen, even when the bar is just
next to you! I always thought the game would
be so much beer if worlds were split into
neighbourhoods. This way, you’d get to travel
between different lots in the same
neighbourhood with no loading screen at all
39
40
Do you ever get negave feedback and if so, how do
you handle it?
When it comes to sharing artwork or builds, it is
inevitable to get some form of feedback, no maer
posive or negave, If the feedback is construcve, I take
it with me, thank them and keep the advice on the back
of my mind. This way, when I’m building or drawing
again, I remember their feedback and work hard on
improving!
As an arst, what do you think about The Sims 4’s look?
I do like the semi-cartoony look of Sims 4. I feel like they
are a huge change from other iteraons. I have to say,
Sims 4 sims have the best facial reacons! They make
very useful references for drawing, speaking from an art
perspecve
What other games do you play?
Whaaat? Simmers play other games?! Just kidding!
Though I play Sims exclusively, I also enjoy playing
Overwatch, Mario and PvZ!
What is the one thing you wish The Sims 4 had?
Round walls/pools! It has been 7 YEARS already!
Which one (or more) of your pieces is your favourite
and why?
Hard queson! I have a strong aachment to all the
pieces I make. I had such a blast making the Voidcrier
ouit series! They are fashion illustraons inspired by
every voidcrier from Sims 4 Kids Room Stuff. Basically, I
had to reimagine how Voidcriers might look like in Sims
4 and if they had their own costume! I am very proud
that it was well received!
Thank you so much for being such a good sport and
answering all of our quesons. We are all really looking
forward to whats coming next on the amazing journey of
Tazreen Tasnim.

I’m going to start this review with a
disclaimer, I am old enough to remember
the original Theme Hospital, on which this
game is based. Two Point Hospital also
shares some of the same developers as
Theme Hospital. I bet you can’t guess
where this is going.
but I can see that Sandbox could
become extremely addictive.
Theme Hospital was a game developed by
Bullfrog Productions, for MS-DOS and
Microsoft Windows compatible PCs back in
1997. The original game looked a little like
this and has the same thematic design that
you find in Two Point Hospital, including a
dark sense of humour and hilarious
sounding and looking diseases. By the way,
if you’re interested Theme Hospital is
available for free on Origin.
That’s enough about Theme Hospital, let’s
get on with the review proper.
So, you start with a completely blank
slate and a small hospital, your first
action is to place a reception desk and
recruit a receptionist, and this is where
the hilarity begins. Each member of staff
that you hire has different
characteristics, a little like Sims and their
interactions change as you would
expect.
You can see that their recruitment fees
change in direct correlation to the
number of stars below their name, this all
comes down to training, which we’ll
cover a little later on.
54
Two Point Hospital is a management
simulation, the idea being to build up, staff
and run your own hospital, usually, to make
a profit. No this is definitely not an NHS
model. There is a story mode and a
sandbox mode. As you will come to expect
if you have read any of my previous
reviews, I will mainly be exploring the story
mode, as I like a framework to work within,
Once the receptionist has been hired, we
can then build a GP’s office, every single
patient will need to visit a GP office, at
least once during their stay. A GP’s office
needs just three things to operate: a
desk, computer and chair combo item, a
filing cabinet and of course a GP. There
are of course more things that you can
add to increase the efficiency of the
room, a medicine cabinet for example
gives the room an extra 1% diagnosis and
treatment power per cabinet, and there
are some great tutorials out there that
offer amazing tips on how best to layout
your rooms for the best “yield”.
So, now we have a receptionist and a GP.
The next room the tutorial advises you to
build is a pharmacy, this room requires a
nurse and makes use of a drug mixer to
help treat a variety of illnesses.
Talking of illnesses, shall I take you
through the types of illnesses and
disorders that you will be researching and
helping to treat? The game provides
some wonderful posters that offer
“prestige”, which is another metric used
to measure your hospital.
From left to right, we have Turtle Head,
Shock Horror, Pandemic, Grey Anatomy,
Lightheadedness, Jest Infection, Cubism,
8 Bitten, Animal Magnetism and Mock Star.
Some of these require some hilarious
equipment to help combat them. For
example, for curing Pandemic, we have
the Extractorpan, which does exactly
what is sas on the tin. The De-Lux clinic will
provide relief from those suffering with
Lightheadedness, where patients present
with a light bulb for a head. This results in
a machine that unscrews the lightbulb and
recreates the patient’s head and screws it
back on.
Two Point Hospital not only features
physical condition, but psychological
ones too, this is one of my favourites,
people turn up dressed like Freddie
Mercury and are sent to a psychiatrist.
Moving on from some of the hilarious
ailments that you need to treat, let’s next
take a look at the mechanics of staffing
you hospital. We already know we need a
Dr to act as a GP, there are other roles
that they need to fill. You can train Drs to
become world class psychiatrists,
researchers, radiographers, geneticists,

Dr to act as a GP, there are other roles
that they need to fill. You can train Drs to
become world class psychiatrists,
researchers, radiographers, genetisicts,
diagnosticians, training specialists,
surgeons and treatment specialists.
Nurses can become ward heroes, training
specialists, diagnosticians and treatment
specialists. This is all completed using the
training room, which offers a range of
courses and a range of trainers, external
and internal. The external trainer for
psychiatrists is a chap called Herman
Freud, who apparently owns the largest
collection of bananas in the county! You
can also train your staff to become
trainers, to go and train your other staff.
Training slots
become available with experience. Once
an employee has gathered enough
experience on the job to be promoted,
that opens a training slot. There are other,
more general training courses available to
both Drs and nurses like, bedside manner,.
All of which have an impact on the way in
which staff members go about their job.
There are not only doctors and nurses, but
an array of support staff in the guise of
assistants and janitors, these roles also
have their own specific training needs,
assistants can learn the art of customer
service and marketing. Janitors can learn
the ghost capture skill, mechanics and
maintenance. All staff also have more
generalised courses available to them
such as motivation, emotional intelligence
and stamina training.
Shall we move on to money next? That’s
right, hospitals need to make money so
your diagnostic and treatment options
are not free. You have free reign to set
the prices for these as you wish. But
beware, the higher your prices, the lower
your price reputation will be and the less
patients you will see come through your
doors.
56
There is an overview available so that you
can see how your hospital is fairing
financially. It looks a little like this.
As you can see, this particular hospital is
well into the green. Shall we look and see
how we are faring with our patients?
This is the graph that shows your patient
information and this is for the last 12
months. You can change the visible graph
lines to see how each individual metric is
doing.
There is a huge amount of customisation
available, if you want to use it, but there
is also no penalty for not naming each
and every patient or doctor who walks
through your doors. And if you are having
problems distinguishing between your
ward nurses and your diagnosticians,
there are cute outfit changes that you
can make to make it a little easier.
In short, this is an incredibly fun and
addictive game. It can be incredibly
challenging but also rewarding, especially
having your in house trained research
doctors come up with a cure for yet
another weird and wonderful ailment. If
you have a slightly dark sense of humour
then the hospital announcer and radio
presenters will provide hours of
entertainment all on their own.
Our charming guide, Albert Crank also
has some information for us here.
There is a lot of data available in the
game to help you manage, or mismanage
your hospital. But it is all really
easy to find and interpret. This makes a
refreshing change in the simulation
management genre, where this
information is often hidden away in some
obscure place and you need a masters
degree in economics to make sense of it.

TITAN
ARCHITECT
Schnuck
Hi Tasha, and thank you so much for
agreeing to this interview, we really
appreciate it and are super excited to
share your builds with our readers.
We’d love to get to know you a little better,
can you tell us a little about yourself and
how you came to play The Sims.
My name is Tasha and I live in Germany. I first
started playing The sims in 2000 and was
attracted to it because you could build
houses. I am a huge fan of dollhouses and
model houses and as a child, I loved drawing
floor-plans. I would play in live mode and
always end up back in build mode as the
building aspect is my favourite part of the
game.
Where did the inspiration for your gallery
ID originate from?
My husband bought me Sims 4 as a gift on his
Origin account because I didn’t have one at
the time and he barely used Origin so the ID
was his name. We tried changing the name
but he couldn't remember the answer to his
security question, which was "where did you
honeymoon?" I'm not sure why he chose this
question as he wasn't married at the time nor
never had been, but needless to say, he could
never recall his fake honeymoon destination
so schnuck01 it is!
If you had to describe yourself in three
60
Sims traits, what would they be and why?
My 3 sim traits would be music lover, well,
because I love music - Foodie because I love
good food and good wine and the last would
be geek because PC's and video games and
a whole bunch of other stuff that would
probably fit into that category.
Your builds are always so detailed, on
average, how long does it take you to
create one?
Thank you! I'd say it takes me about 20 hours
on average to complete a build. I am a really
slow builder who is easily distracted.
Which one took the longest?
I'd say the one that took me the longest was
my only 64x64 build, this is a Seaside Tudor
style villa.
Which is your favourite?
My favourite build is probably a smaller 2
bedroom 2 bath Eco home called "Home
Sweet Eco Home".
What are your favourite and least favourite
things about building in The Sims 4?
My favourite thing about building in The Sims 4 is
simply being able to create something that
someone else can enjoy with their sims.
My least favourite thing about building is fighting
with platforms, roofing trim or stair railings that
show through walls and other things of that nature
that could have been designed better.
We all know that there is a huge modding and
CC community out there, who often fill a much
needed “gap”, can I ask why you choose not
to use CC? Do you use any mods when you
build? If so, which is your “Must Have”?
First I have to say that I love CC, there are so
many well made and stylish furniture, hair,
makeup, clothing, etc. There are 2 reasons I don't
currently use it - I want my builds to be able to be
downloaded from the gallery without the user
having to download anything additional and I
don't have a lot of time to search it out, download
it (In the past I could've spent a day CC
shopping)and then possibly have to find which
CC is causing me an issue every time there is a
patch.
I do use a few mods. Mccc is a must-have for me
as well as TOOL. I also have better build buy and
a few other build related mods. If I played more I
would definitely use some gameplay mods.
If you had to pick just one pack (EP/GP/SP) to
use for a build alongside base game items,
which one would it be and why?
Oh my gosh, such a hard question, there are
certain packs I use in nearly every build so
narrowing it down to just one is pretty tough. My
first thought is Eco Lifestyle, I love the build/buy

is easier to build a nicer starter home.
Do you have any favourite items in the
game that you find yourself using time and
time again?
Definitely, 2 rugs, one is from City Living and
the other from Snowy Escape, both are faux
fur and it's a struggle for me not to use them in
contemporary builds.
Your screenshots always look so amazing,
how do you create them? Do you have any
tips for us mere mortals?
Thank you! My graphics are on ultra, I use tab
mode and S3 cam and a graphic overhaul file
by Simp4Sims and re-shade for screenshots.
If you were limited to just one social media
platform to share your creations, which
would it be and why?
If I were limited to one social media platform it
would be YouTube because I feel the most
connection and am able to communicate via
comments and community tab with people who
use my builds here.

Hello! I’m Paul (he/him), a life-long Sims fan from Eastern
Europe. My older cousin introduced me to The Sims 1
back when I was five, and since then at least one game
of the series has always been installed on my computer.
I enjoy creative activity a lot and have cycled through
many artistic hobbies, but my main outlets are writing,
photography, digital art and gaming.
I’m picky in terms of game franchises and tend to
completely ignore popular titles if I feel that they offer
little to explore, lack originality, or don’t leave much
room for thinking and theorising. And that’s exactly why
I find The Sims with its enormous creative and
storytelling potential so appealing. Although I’m often
critical of the later Sims games, I find something to
enjoy in each version. These days I’m playing The Sims
4, as it’s being actively updated by both the
developers and the fans, but my Sims-related art mostly
revolves around The Sims 2 because of the strong
nostalgic bond I have with it (and its premades being
the peak character design). In fact, the Sims 2 PSP spinoff
was exactly what prompted me to create a blog
and begin sharing my artworks. I really enjoy its horrorlike
atmosphere, unique early-Maxis humour and intense
fourth-wall breaking. A large portion of my art so far
has been dedicated to its antagonist, Dr. Dominic
Newlow, who openly questions the essence of the
game and eventually makes the Player ask themselves
“wait, am I the villain?”. It’s an immensely intriguing
concept that I’m excited to explore.
66
You can find me on Tumblr (fishcemetery.tumblr.com/)
and Twitter (@fish_cemetery). My Tumblr blog is still
very new, and it came as a huge surprise when
SimmedUp suggested that my art should be featured.
It’s not a strictly Sims-dedicated blog; there are things
related to other fandoms and, potentially, my original
universe. I try my best to update frequently and enjoy
interacting with the community, so it’ll be amazing if
more people take an interest in my content!

The exploration of the birthday cake in the sims
As I’ve grown older, I’ve adopted more
of a passive attitude towards my
Birthday. I just feel increasingly awkward
as the day reminds me of the fact I’m
getting older and definitely not wiser.
Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating
other people’s birthdays. Who can say
no to free cake? And we all know that
Birthday cakes are the best cakes there
are, period.
T r a d i t i o n a l l y
birthdays are a
celebration of a year
older, but time is a
social construct as
c l e v e r l y
demonstrated in The
Sims, and birthdays
are indeed a
celebration of an
entire life stage. Technically, everyday in
the Sims is a birthday, but let’s not get
into that.
A Birthday Gathering in The Sims 1
Therefore a fundamental item that
symbolises Sim growth, collective
celebration, hunger satisfaction, and as
a vital importance for goal-orientated
events, the birthday cake transcends
through all the PC games within The Sims
Franchise.
Originally shipped with The Sims House
Party, or as part of an update in later
expansion packs, or as a free download
on the original sims.ea.com website, the
Birthday cake, like the SimFarm Turkey
Dinner, was only used as an object to
fulfil the needs of hunger and fun. As
instructed, the Birthday
Sim will hover in front of
this symbolic item and
patiently wait for the
remaining Sims on the lot
(bar the NPCs) to gather
round. These Sims,
dressed in questionable
party hats of
questionable colours,
blow horns and streamers
or rattle noise makers and
cheer as Birthday Sim blows out the
candles. The cake serves eight delicious
helpings, so most Sims do not miss out
on this Aspartame laced goodness. As
Sims cannot age in The Sims 1, the
birthday cake acts more of a playerdirected
celebratory object to spruce
up a self-hosted party more than
anything. It’s still a sweet add on to
reflect a sense of realism though.
Michael Bachelor celebrating his birthday with items from House Party
This premise follows on in the later
games. However, in The Sims 2, once a
Sim blows out the candles, they’ll do a
fancy little dance and
spin as they transition
into the next stage of
life. You may even get
a cinematic of the
Birthday Sim aging up
if you’re lucky.
Logically, Toddlers
and babies will require
a teen, adult or an
elder to help them
blow out the candles.
In addition, shipped with Celebration
Stuff pack is a selection of 3 more
birthday cakes, each of a similar style.
These include; The Limey

(Age++), The Buttery
C u l i n a r y C o u n t e r
(Age++), and The
P u r p l e y
C u l i n a r y C o u n t e r
(Age++). If I’m honest,
I rarely use these
cakes for my Sims’
birthday celebration,
but make fantastic
additions to my little bakeries (The Sims
2 Open For Business required).

celebrating her birthday in the sims 3
Much like The Sims 2, The Sims 3 features
The Birthday Inferno Birthday Cake which
can be purchased from buy mode as
normal, and now from
the local Supermarket.
Unlike the previous
model, the cake will now
alter the amount of
candles on it depending
on the impending life
stage for that particular
Sim. The older the Sim,
the more candles.
Unfortunately, the name
reflects this dangerous noun as the cake
has a 2% chance of setting alight. Yeah,
that’s happened before...
After spending far too much time on
build/buy mode, and
eventually resorting to
Google, I found out that
the Birthday Cake is no
longer a buy-able
object in The Sims 4.
Therefore, Sims must
manually bake the
Birthday
Cake
themselves. To do this,
Simmers must select a
stove, and, “Cook” (yes, cook) either a
White (presumably vanilla) or Chocolate

the cooking skill, the more assortment
of cakes to choose from; blue confetti
or strawberry cake. If Sims have a high
level of Gourmet Cooking skill, they can
use black and white cakes and SimCity
cheesecakes as birthday cakes.
Shipped with Up All Night digital
content in the notorious Hamburger
Cake. Living vicariously through my Sims
is a fantastic stress reliever, and due to
the fact I cannot bake such a bespoke
cake in real life, I always go for this one.
Side note: Birthday Toppers/Candles are not
included on any of the finished products.
In fact, adding candles or any topper
to the birthday cake is a stressful task
in itself; the cake must be centred on a
counter, dining table or other
appropriate surface otherwise the
option to add toppers becomes
unavailable. Another issue is that some
Sims autonomously grab a slice of cake
before Simmers have even had the
chance to add the toppers!
SueSimming exclaims this outrageous
behaviour made her, “so angry. I once
started crying after they ate the
second one too. My hubby then forced
me to take a break from Sims for a
week”. See, I understand the concept
of eating the birthday cake is amazing,
but can we patch these Sims so they
wait their turn, like most of us would in
real life?
While I do enjoy a more immersive and
realistic approach to The Sims 4 by
manually instructing Sims to “cook” the
cake, I do prefer the previous iterations
whereby the Birthday Cake was already
included in build/buy-mode. I
sometimes enjoy playing a quick
birthday celebration without the hassle
of having to set everything manually,
and I do play with large families,
seemingly with a birthday every other
day. These steps prolong the
celebrations, are frustratingly glitchy
and add unnecessary issues from both
the autonomy of the Sims and the
objects themselves, to something
which should've been a smooth process
to begin with. I think there should be
the option in The Sims 4 to buy a cake
over the phone or computer, or even in
buy mode. Final note: I love celebrating
birthdays, just not in The Sims 4.
Join me next time as I accidentally rip
apart a singular object within the Sims
franchise.

With our birthday issue fast
approaching, the team decided that
SueSimming and SimSimmerly should go
under the spotlight and threw
questions at them whenever one
popped in their heads.
Here are the the question they
answered honest and down to earth we
present you with our founders Sami &
Sue.
Sue: I always make it very clear to
everyone that this was all Sami’s idea. I
was just lucky enough to see her Tweet
about a magazine in the ocean of
Tweets. That alone makes it feel like all
this was really meant to be like some kind
of divine hand just smashed us together.
I think the spark was when we started
talking and my uncontrollable love for
The Sims was on full display that Sami
knew she either had to hire me or have
me as a stalker forever.
How did you two meet each other
(where, when, etc)?
Sami: Sue found me on Twitter lol, I would
love to say we know each other in real
life and that we had some massive back
story, but nope, just two weirdos, gracing
twitter and bam she's now one of my
closest friends, and I couldn't be without
her, I am her pinky she is my brain lol
Sue: I was fairly new to Twitter just
scrolling when I saw someone ask if
Simmers would read or like to read a Sims
magazine. This was something I’ve always
wanted so I answered yes and gave a
bunch of ideas about what she could put
in the magazine that I’d like to see. 10
minutes later I got a DM from Sami asking
me if I wanted to join the team and well,
here we are.
What was the spark that set off the
whole idea of making a magazine
together?
Sami: I myself have been in publishing for
a very long time, well over a decade (now
I am feeling old lol). My first publication
was for a spiritual and holistic magazine
that amassed over 200,000 readers per
month. When I started playing the Sims I
noticed there wasn't anyone who actually
created a proper magazine, I mean there
are plenty of look-books out there, and
magazine styles, but nobody that I could
find creates a proper editorial magazine
which of course is my field and my
passion, so I did a shout out for likeminded
people on Twitter and that's how
I found Sue or should I say she found me,
and we just brainstormed from there.
When you started the magazine, how
far did you think you would take it, did
you plan for it to become what it is
today?
Sami: OMG this.... lol we actually started
out with an Aim to reach just 100 people
in the community and now we reach
thousands upon thousands each month,
it really wasn't something we were
expecting but we are so proud of our
community and the support they have
shown us in helping us grow beyond our
initial dreams.
Sue: When we started my mission was
simple, support the community and have
fun doing it. I am not the kind of person
that makes plans because they never
work out so I said to Sami we should just
have fun and if this magazine is a success
that’s awesome and if not, it doesn’t
matter because we are having fun and we
aren’t doing it for fame but for the love
of The Sims. The smallest amount of
recognition we get or success we have is
a million times more than what I had in
mind and it blows me away every day
when I see the support we get.
Name one thing that you absolutely
love about running the mag and one
thing that you absolutely hate?
Sami: I love organising lol, I am a little OCD
and have to keep my brain occupied with
a thousand things at once, so for me, it’s
bringing everything together. The one
thing I hate about the magazine
hmmmmm......... not being able to fit
everything I want inside. When creating a
75
a magazine you have to have a fine
balance when it comes to content,
people think you just chuck everything in,
all I can say is I wish it were that easy lol
Sue: I love seeing it all come together
and flipping through the magazine on
publishing day. I love finding talented
Simmers to feature and interacting with
people as obsessed about The Sims as I
am. I absolutely hate deadlines. I have an
Olympic gold in procrastination so
deadlines make me panic but I’ve grown
a lot during my time at SimmedUp and I
know at least make the deadline even if
it’s at the very last second.
What would you do if the Sims suddenly
took down all their sims franchise (an
epic Maxis scandal)?
Sami: Oh now that’s a big question! If
there was no more Sims, I would find
another way to support the community
because I understand how lonely it can
be when you have disabilities and mental
health issues, I would want to be able to
continue supporting them, I used to be a
tattooist too, so maybe I could give
everyone Sims tattoos or something lol
Sue: Finally become the serial killer I’ve
always wanted to be. You see, The Sims
helps me cope with life and channel my
anxiety and rage in a positive way, and
without it, there really is no telling what
could happen. But all jokes aside, I would
love to have a secondhand bookstore
that also sells all kinds of occult stuff and
coffee. So you can swing by, have a
cuppa, exchange your old books for new
ones and buy a hex for your ex. Good
times!
What is your idea of the perfect
relaxation time?
Sami: Relax time? Did I mention I have
OCD? Haha, I only actually relax when I
am sleeping, it’s a complete bugbear of
my partner’s because even when we are
having family time, watching movies, and
sometimes even eating dinner, I need
that extra something to keep my brain on
76
on an even keel, otherwise that's when
my depression kicks in because I am
given time to overthink the past and
that's never good for someone like
myself.
Sue: Play The Sims or one of the many
other games I love. I’m a geek if you
haven’t noticed. Watching TV while
snacking and having drinks with Hubs is
about as non-game-related as I’ll go to
relax.
What would you say is the one really
difficult thing you had to overcome
since the conception of the mag? How
did you do it?
Sami: The most difficult thing for me has
been 'other people' surprisingly enough.
We have had all sorts of things happening
behind the scenes from being told that
white people aren't allowed to interview
black people, to people trying to
procure our articles and team members!!
Shocker I know, but it happens and to be
honest, it’s not something I haven't seen
before on many occasions. Some people
always want what others have and if you
don't give it to them, they try to bring
you down and bad-mouth you to others.
The easiest way to overcome those
situations is to just be your genuine self
because I am sure all of us have hit
adversaries at some point and people will
always want to support someone who is
genuine and true to not only themselves
but also the community, rather than
people who can be in it for themselves.
Sue: Realising that not everyone is as
open and honest as you might be and
that some people just use The Sims
community to stroke their own egos and
also how distrustful our community is of
each other. The best way to deal with this
is to be as honest as you can be without
being mean. My word is my honour so I
make it my mission to always show all my
cards and to prove to the community
that SimmedUp is really made by fans for
fans and that I’m not doing this to get
something from them. I also found that
keeping the peace and keeping to my
morals is far more important than being
Sami: My life motto, I actually have
a couple. My first being 'we are all
part of a circle, there is no-one
above you and no-one below you,
we are all equal' and the most
important one is 'Whatever you
decide to do, make sure it makes
you happy.
right or chasing likes. I remind myself
every day that I’m doing this because it’s
fun and because The Sims community is
my home.
Since our team consists of people
located pretty much in every time
zone, when we land a huge sponsor
which allows you to open an office,
which country/city would you do it in?
And why?
Sami: That's a super big decision and one
we were talking about recently actually,
the first office would need to be in the UK
as I am based here, and we would just
have to pay everyone to relocate. We
would love to have bases all over though,
one in the UK, One in SA then we have
team members in the Philippines and
Canada, California, and well yeah maybe
just one in each country eventually lol a
girl can dream right!
Sue: This would be a team decision for
sure but I would say UK and then USA
because such a huge majority of the fan
base is located in those two countries.
From a business point of view, these two
countries have the most stable
economies and communication would be
easy as the main language is English for
both.
What is your life motto?
Sue: I’m not sure how to describe
it but let me try, I have a set of
morals I live by that I do not stray
from and they are pretty complex.
At the top of the list would be tell
no lies, my words are my honour,
be the best street sweeper there
is (no job is below you, be the very
best in any job you get) and
karma is real so live a good life.
In your spare time (when not managing
an entire magazine team), what kind of
other games except Sims do you enjoy
playing?
Sami: Other games I play... well I used to
play a lot of COD, games like tomb raider,
I had a breakdown at the age of 25 and
it had a huge impact on my attention
span, so now I only play The Sims. I am a
massive build fan although I just create
pretty boxes compared to some simmers
out there who astound me every day with
their talents like fantasims, Sati Sims,
Rustic Sims, and Ardiputra to name a few.
erm I play merge dragons, that counts lol
Sue: Fallout 4, Red Dead Redemption 2,
Dawn of Man, 7 Days To Die, Borderlands
(all of them) Ark, Horizon Zero Dawn,
Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Vampire The
Masquerade and tons of small Indie
games. PC or console but never ever
mobile because I’m a gaming snob and
I’ve made peace with it.
When and why did you start playing
the Sims?
Sami: I originally had a go on the Sims erm
15 years ago now, but it wasn’t my thing
at the time, in November 2019 my partner
downloaded me a The Sims as he thought
it would help me with my mental health
77
and I fell in love, and the rest is history.
Sue: In the early 90’s I started playing the
very first SimCity and I was hooked on
anything Sims-related since then. I’ve
always felt like I don’t belong anywhere
and was badly bullied in High School. The
Sims became my escape and helped me
cope with my shyness, anxiety, and
overactive creative mind. Honestly, you
can save so much on therapy if you just
play The Sims.
“my biggest goal would be
to continue making others
happy with our content”.
What are your biggest goals for
SimmedUp?
Sami: My biggest goal for Simmedup is to
78
continue what we are doing but just to
reach more people, I love the community
we are a part of and are creating, I am a
big softie and love to help and support
others that have gone through or are
going through times as I have had, so I
guess my biggest goal would be to
continue making others happy with our
content.
Sue: I just want to reach more Simmers,
share the love and be around for as long
as people still play The Sims. I just want to
keep on Simming on but I do want to keep
improving on the look and content for
the magazine.
What is your biggest accomplishment
when it comes to the mag, what are
you most proud of?
Sami: I am most proud of the team we
have today, from where we started to
what we have been through, and to
where we are now. I honestly couldn’t be
more proud of the team we have and the
way they support each other even
though they are thousands of miles
away, we always have each others back
because that’s what a real team does.
Sue: Delivering a high-quality magazine
on time every month and the friends I’ve
made during this year. I’m very proud of
the team we have now because it really
does feel like family. We support each
other, chat about Sims and even though
we are all a little bit odd I’ve never felt so
happy, like I belong. But by far the
biggest accomplishment for me would
have to be that other Simmers like the
magazine. The Sims community can be a
tough crowd.
Who are you in real life?
Sami: Who am I in real life, A mum of a 25-
year-old son and a 12-year-old
Stepdaughter, not forgetting my fur
baby chihuahua who is 2. I suffer from a
degenerating spinal condition and also
High functioning anxiety, depression, and
OCD, I’m currently awaiting an Autism and
ADHD assessment, something I wasn’t
expecting to do at 41yrs old lol. I am
super creative and a complete hermit, my
home is my happy place, there is nothing
better than being at home, listening to
music whilst creating for the community
and my friends.
Sue: I’m a 35-year-old housewife. I never
thought I would be a housewife but when
I moved to Zimbabwe from South Africa
to be with my husband, it wasn’t possible
to work in a country with a nearly 98%
unemployment rate. I’m two opposites in
one body which makes for a not-so-dull
human. I really don’t like people in real life
to the point that my thoughts on humans
and society, in general, can be pretty
dark. I’m creative and I’ve been keeping
journals since I was 8 or 9 years old. I love
to read, I’m pretty chunky because I love

food, I have zero tolerance for fake

The Sims and my husband is totally okay
with that. I have no kids, i have only fur
babies and I’m super happy with that. I
hate living in Africa only because coldrainy
weather makes my soul sing and
that’s not exactly easy to come by in this
hellish hot place.
Are you friends in real life?
Sami: I would definitely say Sue is one of
my dearest friends as I mentioned
before, I couldn’t imagine being on this
journey with anyone else.
Sue: Even though we’ve never met face
to face, I believe this is one of those
friendships that was just meant to be.
Most days I pull myself out of my
depression hole simply because I know
Sami will pick up on it and I don’t want to
worry her. If you can’t call that real
friendship then I give up.
What is one thing you love or hate
about The Sims 4?
Sami: I love building - hate glitches which
there are a lot of!
Sue: I’m a pretty vocal critic of the game
because there is so little depth to The
Sims 4, however, this very flaw has forced
me to use my imagination and creativity
in ways I never would have in The Sims 2
or 3. I hate that you can’t really enjoy the
79
game without mods and that they didn’t
stick to The Sims lore but I love that you
can mod The Sims 4 to the max and
create your own lore.
Favourite and least favourite packs?
Sami: Fave pack, I don’t have one, and
that’s the honest truth, as a builder I am
happy to use whatever I have, I don’t
build by pack specifically. The least fave
is kits, just so irrelevant I think, and could
have been included in stuff packs with a
chance to enhance them just that little
bit more.
Sue: Favourite would be Cottage Living,
Strangeville, and Batuu as this adds to my
zombie apocalypse play I love to do. I
don’t have a least favourite as they all
add something to the game I can use.
How do you cope with pressure or when
it’s almost the deadline?
Sami: Sometimes I cry and shake in the
corner! No that’s a joke lol, to be honest
from my personal point of view, I never
panic about deadlines, that’s the good
thing about a magazine because we
always make sure we have reserve
articles that way we are always covered
and if we have no reserves, we have more
than enough experience within our team
to make sure we got our deadlines
covered.
Sue: I drink heavily, procrastinate, play
Sims, beg Sami for forgiveness and
eventually just put on my big girl panties
and get it all done. I used to panic a lot
more but these days we have a very solid
team so no matter what goes wrong, we
have the team to help save the day.
Where do you see yourself and the
magazine in the future?
Sami: We recently created our parent
company SUpInMedia, so hopefully, in 5
years time we will have those offices we
talked about earlier lol, and as much as I
would love to reveal everything we have
going on behind the scenes, all I can say
is keep watching this space, we have so
much on the horizon that we can barely
contain the excitement this side and wish
we could share everything, but just not
yet.
Sue: Everything Sami said and being able
to tie my shoes without holding my
breath.
Where do you find inspiration for every
mag issue we release?
Sami: The community, we are researching
all the time so make sure to listen to what
the community wants, so we can tailor
specifically for them.
Sue: The Sims gods. LOL! We actually just
really listen to what’s going on in the
80
What do you think makes SuP different
or unique from other Sims magazines?
Sami: I think we are unique as we are
based on an official magazine-style
rather than the look books of today. As
far as I am aware there are no magazines
like us out there right now. Creating a full
publishable magazine the way we do
(which eventually we hope you can buy
direct from shelves) and not just focusing
on digital content and designs. I also
think that’s an edge we have over other
magazines too, not only are we able to
tailor our content to both publishable
and digital we are consistent in all that
we do, and that comes with experience
and have many decades of experience
behind me within the team definitely
helps lol
Sue: I have to agree with Sami and also
the spirit of the team is all about the love
of the game, love for the community, and
having fun while pushing our own
creativity to the max.
Love Sami & Sue xoxo

Heyo! My name is Chlo and I currently reside in Cumbria, England. I’m a fur-baby momma to a
German Shepherd and 2 house rabbits. I probably drink too much coffee and sleep too little. I
work full-time from home during the day but any free time (including breaks!) is spent gaming,
although my heart always leans towards Sims! I am an OG sims player and have been playing

Grief: A Tutorial Part 3
Redefining Life After
Loss
88
In the last two parts of this three-part
series, we have covered ways to manage
the emotional, physical and existential
aspects of a grief experience. In this final
instalment, I want to share about the part
of grief that I have based my entire
career on. This is sometimes referred to
“Reinvestment.” You might be wondering
why, with all of the complexities that
come with manoeuvring loss, I would pay
particular interest in this phase of grief.
The answer is simple, this is the phase
where everything we have experienced
so far can start to take shape into
meaning. It is the time when we no longer
need as much of our life force to
manoeuvre unfamiliar waters, because
there has been adjustment and healing.
What this phase is not is the end of grief.
Really, it is the beginning of life.
Coaching is about redefining oneself by
discovering new opportunities, and
therefore the stage of grief that is
saturated in growth is where I have found
the most incredible things happen in
clients, as well as in my own life.
I love mosaic art. To me, it illustrates how
the most beautiful masterpieces can
come from a chaotic pile of brokenness.
Think about it. What are most mosaics
made from? They are made from glass.
Not intact vessels of glass, but bits and
shards of broken glass. The artist must sift
and sort through different shapes and
discard the unusable pieces to hold on to
the ones they need to create their
design. When we experience loss, it often
feels like our lives are those glass vessels
that have been shattered into a million
unusable and confusing pieces.
Throughout the process of adjusting to
grief, we are going through and sorting
the rubble. We must grieve those pieces
of our lives that are no longer present. As
we do this, however, we start to hold on
to those things which we get to keep. As
we move around in the different phases
of the grief experience, we discover new
aspects of our existence that we were
unaware of before, or that did not exist
before. Just as the mosaic artist does, we
can then take these pieces and start to
fashion them together in a design as our
lives begin to take new shape.
Here are a few activities that may help:
Make a Memory Book: When working with
clients in grief, I like to remind them that
we get to keep three things, the love, the
memories and the history. At first,
engaging with these feels painful.
However, later these are the very things
that start to fill the void. After all, grief is
about learning to love absent when we
are used to loving present. Creating a
memory book is a good way to sit with
the memories again, and give them the
value and honour they deserve. You can
do this in a scrapbook, a journal or even
a simple photo album. This is a good
activity to try over time. Just as we
learned in the previous articles, take your
time. If it feels overwhelming, stop. It is
OK. Remember, you’re not done grieving,
we never are. You are simply feeling your
grief differently.
Learn a New Hobby, Interest or Activity:
What have you been curious about but
never tried? What is stopping you? What
do you need to do to remove that barrier
and just try? It can be as big as climbing
a mountain or as simple as reading a new
genre of book. Or, maybe even writing a
book! The point is this: As your life opens
up, you will likely find space for new
things. This is not about filling time or
space, although that isn’t necessarily a
bad thing. This is about rediscovering
yourself. I am sitting in this chair writing
this article because of reinvestment. I am
in this Sims Community because a long
time ago I experienced a great change,
which was the very thing that drew me to
wanting to become a helping
professional. I type these words out
today because I came to a point in my
life where my energy was being spent
surviving and I was ready to change. And
you can too.
from grabbing onto what we get to keep.
It makes me think of a kid on the jungle
gym. You know those vertical bars (which
I was never good at)? For them to go
from one rung to the next, they must let
go. They may have to hang there for a
bit, or even hold on with both hands for
a while. But, in order to move forward,
they must let go and take hold of the
next thing. Grief is about experiencing
letting go and grabbing hold. I suggest
starting slow. Maybe start with a storage
container or box. Take clothes, photos or
anything you may be holding on to and
store them there. If you need them, you
can always reach for them, but they will
no longer be front of mind. Remember,
this isn’t forgetting, it’s making more
space to remember better and more
fully. If this feels too hard, try taking one
item and putting it away or in a less
visible place. Replace it with something
inspirational or something that makes
you feel joy.
Acknowledge Feelings of Guilt: Why do I
need to include this? Because it is
perfectly natural to feel this way. We can
feel like, if we move forward, we are
forgetting or leaving what we lost too far
behind. Acknowledge if you feel this way.
And then remind yourself that you take it
all with you, just in a new and different
way. Ask yourself this, what would my
loved one want for me? How can I honour
them with my life?
Take Down the Altar: This is a term we use
in grief counselling to talk about puttingaway
mementos and letting go of the
“things” that might be holding us back

How To Run a Successful Farm in Sims 4
The opportunity to live your best farming life is finally available in Sims 4. The latest
expansion pack, Cottage Living, gave Simmers access to farm animals such as cows,
llamas, and chickens and added new features that make your farming fantasies a
reality. Don't be fooled, however. Just like in real life, farming in Sims 4 is hard work,
but we've got you covered with some super useful tips and tricks to help you create
and run a successful farm in Sims 4.
Getting Started:
The Sims 4 Cottage Living Expansion can be
bought on Origin or your respective
platform and added to your game. Prices
for this expansion range but generally
costs around $40-$50 (USD)
To start your farming journey, there are a
few items you will need.
A plot of land. Cottage Living came with a
new world, Henford on Bagley. Living in this
world when starting your farming adventure
will be convenient and will help you learn
the trade tools.
Along with your plot of land, you will require
the 'Animal Shed' found in the build buy
catalog. The animal shed allows you to own
cows or llamas, and you will need a chicken
coop if you hope to raise chickens. Each
shed holds one animal (either a cow or
llama), and you can have up to 8 chickens
per coop. Place these items on your lot and
select purchase animal from the context
menus they provide.
96
Start Small:
You may want a
big family farm
right away in your
excitement, but it
is best to start small.
Begin with a single
animal shed and a few chickens at most.
The same rule applies to the new farming
plots in the game. It is best not to create
too large a garden area, or you may find
yourself overwhelmed.
A small farm can be just as prosperous as
a large one and is much easier to manage,
especially on your own when learning the
ropes of this new career. Don't go
overboard in your excitement. Instead,
work your way up to a more extensive
farm over time.
Be Ready to Commit:
You are also able to place Patchy on your
lot and ask him for help with gardening.
Patchy is a scarecrow that came with the
base game. Usually used decorative
feature, Patchy comes to life in Cottage
Living and will weed, water, and harvest
your crops for you. Crops that Patchy has
harvested can be found in your household
inventory.
Just as it is in real life, farming takes a lot
of work and dedication. If you dream of
running a successful farm, you must be
committed. When you first begin this new
journey, you need to be prepared to kiss
your Sims social life goodbye. Farming
involves early mornings and late nights.
There are animals to feed and clean,
plants to take care of constantly, and
endless trips into town to sell your harvest
for some simoleons. Be prepared to be
working round the clock if you want to
succeed.
While this may sound tiring (and it is),
running a farm is extremely rewarding.
Ask for Help:
The best additions to the Cottage Living
expansion pack were the wild rabbits and
wild birds.
Birds and rabbits live in tree stumps found
in the build buy catalog. If you place these
objects on your lot,
you will see them
hanging around your
yard. You can then
befriend these
creatures through
various interactions
and eventually ask
them to help you in
the garden. Bunnies
and Birds will help you
ward off weeds and
bugs to keep your
harvest healthy. Even
the wild foxes can be
helpful as the will
drop interesting gifts around your plot,
and being friends with a fox means that
you can ask them not t steal eggs from
you chickens.
Patchy is also handy for raising your Sims
social skill because you will not be making
many friends while running a farm.
Pick Crops Wisely and Tend Often:
Along with where you place your crops,
which crops you choose to grow is
essential. Cottage Living came with the
option to grown over sized Crops.
Pumpkins, Lettuce, Watermelons,
Aubergines, and Mushrooms can all be
grown on the new garden patches
included in this expansion pack. As these
plants grow, they will merge in the center
to form a giant plant. This giant plant
needs to be fertilized daily.
Create a Convenient Layout:
Thus, giant crops will not
yield much money in the end due to the
cost of fertilizer. However, you will get
fertilizer when cleaning the chicken coops.
So, you can essentially grow big crops for
little more than the cost of the seeds.
Giant vegetation can also be entered into
the Finchwick fair, where you have a
chance to win some cash and prizes.
The layout of your farm in Cottage Living
is essential to your success. Crops that are
too far away or too spread out will slow
your progress.
You will want to have multiple trash cans
on your lot, and you should have at least
one near your animal sheds and chicken
coops for quick cleaning.
Your crops should be close together and
easy to access. Sims are notoriously slow
at completing tasks, make it easier for
them by placing objects that require daily
care in an easy-to-access spot.
Once you have your farm up and running,
you will see how your Sim works, and you
can make changes that create more
efficiency in farming.
Until Next Time,
Have fun farming!

Storytime
Hello everyone and welcome to a brand
new SimmedUp exclusive story, about a
girl named Star Dew. She has recently
moved to Henford on Bagley and little
does she know it, but her life is about to
mirror that of a video game. This is
where things start getting a little
Inception-like
Star Dew is going to be taking on the
Stardew Cottage Living challenge by
Honeybrewsims, here’s a link so that you
can find all the details:
https://honeybrewsims.tumblr.com/post/
657467125964914688/stardew-cottage-living-challenge
The gist of the challenge is this, it
requires you to complete tasks to
unlock the ability to progress your farm.
It has elements of a rags-to-riches
challenge as well!
We’ll find out more about the rules as we
go, but first, let me introduce you to
Star.
106
Star Dew wishes to become a Curator, a
requirement of the challenge. This
means that she wants to collect lots of
different things. The challenge also
recommended her traits were Animal
Enthusiast, Loner and Loves the
Outdoors, so that’s what we’ve gone
with.
We join her as she reaches the cabin her
Grandfather left her as part of his will.
CHAPTER 1 - THE NEW NEIGHBOUR
“Wait? This is Grandpa’s cabin?” She says
out loud to no one in particular. “This is
where I spent my childhood summers?”
she continues. “But it’s so… Small.” “I’m
going to continue this monologue in my
head,” she thinks, “as I’m starting to feel
like the removal men will think I’m crazy if
I carry on talking to thin air.” It is then
that she realises that they have actually
deposited all her worldly possessions on
the front lawn and there is no one around
to hear her. “It’s not like anyone is going
to pass by, no one knows I’m here and
this is the back end of beyond, no it’s
further than the back end of beyond.”
Star has a sudden sinking feeling in the
pit of her stomach, “Wait, let me check.”
She takes out her mobile and checks for
a signal, and her fears are confirmed. “No
mobile service? Really?” She says out
loud again, for the benefit of the rabbits
and cows, I suppose.
“How on earth am I supposed to make
life work out here with no mobile
reception?” Then she wonders sadly to
herself, “who would I call?” Now, she is
glad that she left her old life with nothing
more than this meagre pile of belongings,
not much more would fit in the cabin,
she wonders what state the interior is in.
Walking in, she realises that it could have
been a lot worse. The caretaker has
obviously been keeping the place clean,
there are no burst pipes anywhere, no
cobwebs, not much of anything at all
really. The appliances all look a little tired
and shabby, “At least they work,” she
says as she turns on one ring of the
stove. She also checks for running water.
“Well, it runs.” She sighs, “It’s tepid, but it
runs.”
Knowing that no one else is going to get
all her furniture into the cottage she
heads back outside to make a start.
Deciding to start with the easy stuff. So,
in comes, the dining room table and chair
and the mirror, the box with all her cross
stitch equipment comes next. The books
and the mirror. It is only now that she
notices the packets of seeds that the
caretaker must have left for her on the
counter and thinks, “no time like the
present”. Yes, she still has to bring the
bed in, but she will also need some food
at some point, and she thinks to herself “I
can always sleep under the stars tonight
if I have to.”
“I got lucky with these,” She says to
herself as she heads out to the small
plots of soil that the caretaker has
prepared. Spinach, carrots, green peas
and bell peppers, there is something else
that she doesn’t recognise, it looks
almost like a potato, “Oh well, it’s all
food,” and she decides to plant
everything. “And thank goodness
Grandpa’s garden tools were left
behind!” She exclaims.
107
are. To deflect their enquiries, she asks
similar questions of her new neighbours,
who are more than happy to answer them.
Thomas tells her about his wife Rahmi, and
his son Imran who he says should be along
to introduce themselves soon. Michael is
happy to talk about the great outdoors
and both he and Cecilia share your love of
animals.
As she waters her freshly planted
vegetables, she can’t help but notice
some Sims have gathered at the edge of
Grandpa’s, no, her property. Even
though she is not too keen on the
company of strangers, she was brought
up to always be polite, so she heads over
and introduces herself.
They turn out to be Henford on Bagley
locals. Thomas Watson, Cecilia Kang and
Michael Bell.
The conversation starts to flow, and she
finds that Henford seems to be an
incredibly friendly place. Thomas has
even bought her some fruit cake as a
welcome gift. On hearing that she was
currently unemployed, Michael offers a
few odd jobs that he could use some
help with, in exchange for a small amount
of Simoleons and some produce.
The conversation soon turns to why she
finds herself living in her Grandpa’s old
cabin, and what her plans for the future
Rahmi and Imran soon appear and they all
head inside to talk. A lady named Sara Scott
appears to say hello as well, she is the local
pub owner and says that she also has some
errands that she could use some help with.
Sara also tells Star about her husband
Simon and how she will usually find both of
them in the pub if she ever needs any help.
Soon enough though, they all disappear
back to their own lives, but not before Star
wisely enlists the help of the boys to move
her bed into the cabin. And she finds herself
back in blissful solitude.
Ah Star, your first day appears to have
gone well, you even managed to procure
yourself some ready-made food. By the
way, don’t forget to fill that fridge with ice.
Oh wait, you can’t hear me, can you? Who
am I? Well, dear readers, I am the narrator
or caretaker as you’ve heard Star refer to
me. It will be my job to ensure that Star’s
new venture is a success and that she lives
a happy life here in Henford on Bagley.
After all, she deserves some happiness
after all that she has been through...

SulziSim: Tell us more about who the
person behind Plantsimgirl is.
Plantsimgirl is well known all over instagram for
her beautiful landscapes that include, you
guessed it, plants. Who would’ve known?
I sat down with her to find out a little more about
herself and where she finds her inspiration from.
I’m a 22 year old girl from Norway
who has been in love with cozy
houses ever since I was little!
Whenever I dont play Sims, I like to
read or play other games. A big part
of my life is spent hiking on top of
mountains since I live in a valley in
Norway with lots of nature, which I
feel so lucky to be able to do! There is
just something about reaching a
mountain top after hours of hiking
that feels so refreshing.Outside my
spare time I am currently studying
front-end development, which
basically means that I create
websites. There is a tiny, tiny hope
that I can earn everything I need
from YouTube and make it a career,
but for now it’s just a hobby.
Simmer
lantsimgirl
SulziSim: When did you start playing The
Sims?
I first started playing The Sims 2 which
honestly feels like a hundred years ago!
That was the time I only ever played the
actual gameplay and never built
anything. Then I had a major break and
actually didn't even play The Sims 3 at all!
It’s so strange to think that this game
has become such a huge part of my life
and it happened so randomly. I was
feeling bored one day so I decided to buy
Sims 4 and suddenly I’d built my first
house and started an Instagram
account.
SulziSim: You are known for your
awesome exterior aethstetic. How long
does it usually take you to get a build like
that done?
Aww! :’) Oh it really depends on everything,
but mostly my interest and motivation.
It's always fun to build, but some days are
more fun than others. It also depends on
the lot size of course, though lately I’ve
been creating a lot of big lots. I try to post
speed builds every two weeks, but I would
say it takes me a little over a week to build.
SulziSim: I have been following you for
quite a while and noticed you are more
into the cozy cottage type builds. Were
you excited about the new pack when you
heard it had the same style you built in?
111
YES! I never in my wildest dreams ever
dreamt of The Sims team creating a
cottage pack, I almost cried when
hearing the news lol! Everything has
become a lot easier, especially when
building the interior.
SulziSim: You do participate in some
challenges here and there, what is your
favorite challenge to do in the Sims?
I have actually just participated in one,
but I had such a good time doing it!
@simnice, who creates such creative and
stunning builds, invited me to create an
apartment for an apartment-building
she built. I think challenges are really fun
to do, though I am usually busy with
creating my own builds.
SulziSim: Any tips for upcoming content
creators that you can share with the
community?
Relax and have fun! In my opinion that's all
it really is about. If you only look at the
numbers and not at what you’re doing, it
will get boring really fast. And don't worry
about taking breaks. Making creative
content can be hard if you’re creating all
the time, so it’s only healthy to take a
break once in a while!
SulziSim: What is the one thing you think
that the Sims4 game is lacking that you
would like to see in the game?
112
I can only speak for myself as a builder -
the colour wheel in Sims 3! The amount
of times I have had to delete an item
because it didn't fit my colour scheme
is uncountable. More worlds would also
be really great. though we have gotten
a really great one with the new pack but
it’s so easy to get tired of the lots.
SilziSim: It's SimmedUp's birthday issue
this month and we are a magazine for
the community, by the community. Is
there anything you would like to say to
your community who have supported
you?
Only thank you for making my life
better in a thousand ways! I didn't know
I could be creative and to also be able to
make someone’s anxiety or stress go
away for a moment - it’s just a blessing.
Oh and Happy birthday!! I always have the
best time reading your magazine and see
what our amazing community creates.
Thank you so much for choosing me to
interview, it's such an honour!
Follow her on Instagram, Youtube
and Twitter so see more of her
awesome builds!

Showcase
Michaela Creates
Michaela Creates is the focus of this
month’s Facebook Spotlight, she shares
such a wide variety of fantastic builds,
from tiny homes to mansions, commercial
lots and rooms!
Yes, that is an onsen you spy to the front
right of the home.
The first build I want to focus on is the
family home she created for Mt Komorebi
(picture above).
This place is absolutely stunning inside
and out, with amazing attention to detail.
I mean, look at that pathing! And those A-
Frame windows?? No, they are not CC,
but I had to download this place just to
figure out how. (Would you believe that
they are unpainted canvases rotated
with TMs TOOL mod??)The architecture
here screams modern Asian and she’s
worked incredibly hard to make all the
woodwork match, which is no easy feat!
116
The back garden is just as well detailed as
the front.
Inside we have a very well executed split
level ground floor, with the kitchen dining
area on the lower level. The use of colour
here is fantastic, it’s bright, but not too
bright.
Moving on, and to prove that modern isn’t
the only type of build Michaela creates, we
have this adorable tiny boho cottage!
Again the landscaping and the use of the
terrain painting tool is just wonderful,
everything feels like it is part of the
landscape.
The interior is just as inviting and eclectic as
the exterior would have you think.
The kids’ rooms are too darling for words!!
The master suite has its own built-in
wardrobe, the layout of which I will
probably borrow ;)
And did I mention that it has this gorgeous
glass-roofed section? Well, it does!
Michaela also creates rooms and from what
I can see she is an avid participant in
challenges.
This kitchen, for example, I would love to
have a kitchen like this!!
117
The last creation of Michaela’s that I
would like to touch on is her Restaurant
Complex. A building with a restaurant
downstairs and living space above! It is
simply stunning.
The outdoor seating area is just so
welcoming and inside, well, see for
yourselves…
Above the restaurant are two
apartments, both so cute and
homely.

od Review
A year ago, I found a fun mod called
Rambunctious Religions by a then littleknown
modder called Lumpinou. The mod
captured the fun and silly spirit of The
Sims perfectly and opened a world of
new story ideas for many. Since then,
Lumpinou is the name on everyone’s lips
with new mods like First Impressions, No
Strings Attached and Woohoo Wellness
and Pregnancy Overhaul. Her mods add
depth to the game and has the least
amounts of conflicts with other mods I’ve
seen so far. I decided to catch-up with
the amazing and very busy Lumpinou and
find out how much can change in one
year.
Sue: What has changed for you since we
spoke back in September 2020?
Lumpinou: First, I find it hard to believe that
it’s been this long already since last time! So
much has changed, it would be difficult to
sum up.
Sue: How much time do you spend on
your mods these days?
Lumpinou: For the past two or three
months, I have been modding much more
slowly than usual due to injuries; but
normally I’d spend between 30 and 50
hours a week directly working on mods and
taking care of mod support, testing,
dissecting game files, learning, etc. Let’s
just say it became a huge part of my life,
and I can’t wait to get back to my fast
modding pace.
conflict with others?
Lumpinou: in terms of compatibility, the
first effort as to come from the creator
themselves, trying to make the mod in ways
that are less likely to conflict with others,
and this has always been a priority of mine.
Now, for situations where bilateral
intervention would be required to ensure
compatibility, I am always happy to reach
out to other modders, and there have been
various occurrences of myself and others
either unilaterally or bilaterally making
changes to our work to better integrate
each other. We also make efforts to not
step on each others toes and try to avoid
redoing what somebody else has as already
done well. This is all very important to me,
and I am glad that as martyrs have some
platforms on which we can communicate
with each other on these matters.
120
Sue: How closely do you work with other
modders to ensure that your mod doesn’t
Sue: Did you think your mods would be
this popular?
Lumpinou: Short answer: no! When I started,
I didn’t think anybody would want anything
I’d make. I am humbled and honored to see
that people enjoy my mods.
Sue: Where do you get your ideas for the
mods?
Lumpinou: Well, it would depend on the
mod, but mostly I think it’s a mix of my wish
to represent various situations and
variations in mindsets when facing these
situations basically, trying to emulate a little
more of the wealth of real life into the
game. Sometimes however, an idea comes
from looking at the game files and thinking,
‘oh, with this, I could make that’, and going
from there.
Sue: Is there a mod you’d like to make
but you don’t have the time or resources?
Lumpinou: I have so many projects!
Something I really want to work on, and I will
once I can, is a mod for fun, sim-like system
of justice and consequence. I have that
mod planned out and I’m looking forward to
working on it. Another mod I would like to
do, but have no plans to do at this moment,
is a broad-scale astrology-related one, to
add in the game not only sun signs, but also
moon and rising signs, and of course create
some silliness around that. And a project I
would love to do but don’t think I would
have the resources to do: Sim-like, silly
dating websites, with customizable profiles
and etc I don’t think the game has the stuff
I would need to really make that the way I
would want, but it’s fun to think about.
Sue: What other games do you play?
Lumpinou: Before I got my various arm
injuries, I used to play a lot of games - you
know, half an hour in the evening,
something like that. I started playing video
games when I was seven and I would like to
never stop. I love the stories, I love the
concept of gameplay, and the artistic
aspect. Other than the Sims, some of my
favorite games of all times would be
Dishonored, Final Fantasy X, the Legacy of
Kain series and Witcher 3. I really like the
concept of visual novels but I’m very picky
with that type of game.
Sue: Do you create mods for other
games?
Lumpinou: No, I’ve never modded for any
other game, but I would like to when the
time comes. I’ll try to be on board for the
next Sim game for sure!
Sue: Have you achieved everything you
had planned since last year? If no, what
were some of the obstacles you had?
Lupinou: I have no memory of
what I had been planning! I think
in a way I have achieved both
much more and less that what I
would’ve wanted. But, I have to
be kind with myself, I have
released a fair amount of stuff in
a year… If it was only up to me, I
wouldn’t be sleeping at night to
make more hours to create
faster, but that’s not how the
world works Obstacles have been
some personal loss, and as
mentioned previously, all my
health problems related to my
arms, which have come back to
the forefront over the past few
months, and have been making
my life a challenge for the past
few years. Still, trying to
overcome obstacles is eventually
rewarding, and I hope to not let
anything stop me

Sue: Do you do anything else outside of
modding for the Sims or does this take up
most of your time?
Lumpinou: When I was modding at full
capacity, I have to say that it was eating up
my life completely. I was not doing anything
else, barely even spending time with my
husband. It was a little too much to be
healthy long-term. Normally, I like all sorts
of creative stuff, and spending time
outside.
Sue: Where do you see yourself next
year?
Lumpinou: Next year? I hope you and I will
be back chatting here, and that I will have
released another 10 mods haha! Fingers
crossed. Joke aside, I don’t really know
where I will be, I tried to live day by day and
not look too far in the future
Lumpinou: Natalia Auditore! She has
everything one could want for a fantasymedieval
game.
Sue: Who is your favorite modder?
Lumpinou: That’s a horribly tough question
haha. I can’t answer it. However, instead I
will mention modders with whom I chat
often on the creator’s Discord: Frankk,
Adeepindigo, Triplis, Lazarusinashes and
LeRoiDeTout are usually in the crowd!
Sue: What’s the biggest obstacle she has
faced when creating her mods?
Lumpinou: My biggest obstacle is really my
health. My arms / hands are kind of
compromised, and you can imagine how
that creates difficulty. Impostor's syndrome
is another obstacle.
Sue: Can you give us a sneak peek of
upcoming projects?
Lumpinou: Tons of developments for
WooHoo Wellness & Pregnancy Overhaul, a
justice system mod, and a silly Pet Rock
mod are my upcoming projects at the
moment! I’m excited about all of it.
Sue: Who are your favorite CC creator/s
Sue: How do you deal with rude or
demanding supporter/followers?
Lumpinou: First, I must say that support has
been overwhelmingly positive overall. I am
so grateful and amazed by it and cannot
say thank you enough. For the less positive
end of the spectrum, I try to be
understanding and see where they’re
coming from with whatever they’re saying.
My goal is always to try and reach
122
compromise and understanding; it’s not
always easy or possible but it’s what I strive
towards.
Sue: And finally, What advice do you
have for anyone looking to get into
modding?
Lupminou: Experiment! Don’t be scared to
look into the files, try stuff, break the game
even, haha. Start very small, learn the
pieces before you can put them together,
that kind of thing. You’ll be having fun in no
time.
Thank you for having me for this chat for
the second year in a row! I’m glad to see
that you are still sticking around as well.

1. How did you become a Game-
Changer? I put in an application back
when Kate was Community Manager and
got picked from there as a Gallery Game
Changer, which means that the gallery
was my main platform
2. Who inspired you to apply for the
Game-Changer programme? In a way
no one, I've just always wanted to be part
of the team ever since I fell in love with The
Sims 3.
3. What are your favourite and least
favourite parts of the Game-Changer
programme? My favourite part is being
part of a wonderful group of members and
sharing what I love about The Sims. My
least favourite part would be, not having
fast enough internet to do everything I
want as a Game Changer.
4. How does being a Game-Changer fit
into your everyday life? I have my two
teenage grandsons that live with me and
my hub since their mom passed and it
makes my life a bit busy for the most part,
but winding down with The Sims game is
my getaway.
5. If you could choose just one pack to
keep, which one would it be and why?
Dine Out, without a doubt, it's my most
favourite pack I love running restaurants.
6. If you had to get rid of just one pack,
which one would it be and why?
Journey To Batuu, and Only because I
don't much like playing the game that way.
I love the build items that came with the
pack though.
7. Do you prefer building, CAS creation
or gameplay? Or something else
entirely? I prefer building and gameplay,
those are my favourite two things to do ingame.
8. Where do you find the inspiration for
your creations? Google mostly, also
driving around looking at homes that are
uniquely built and also I search Pintrest
also for inspirations, my home rarely ever
turn out just like the house plan that
inspired me.
9. What is your favourite social media
platform for all things Sims and why? I
always find myself on Twitter mostly, I'm
on the forums, Facebook and Instagram
also but not as much as I am on Twitter
11. Who is your favourite SimGuru and
why? It would have to be
SimGuruGraham, not sure even why but
he has always seemed to be around and
has always been so positive towards the
game.
12. Where can readers find and follow
you? Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, The
Sims Forum, Origin, and I have a bit of
stuff on YouTube but it’s a very small
channel due to my internet connections.

Aquarius - Never underestimate what you can do,
when you put your mind to it. This month make sure to
jot down all your ideas, because opportunity is on it
was and you will need them.
Aries - Hope springs eternal. You are amazing and
to continually doubt yourself is to do yourself a disservice.
Start a daily mantra and confirm ‘you are
amazing, you are worth it’ daily.
Gemini - Nothing is at it seems this month. Make sure
to keep your eyes open for those tell tale warning signs
that we otherwise would ignore. Love can be blind but
we don’t have to ignore the signs.
Leo - Another month rolls past and you’re thinking
where has time gone and where should you be headed.
Stay on track, keeping heading forward and trust in your
own instincts, they are right.
Libra - Freedom is important to you but yet you’re
feeling constrained and tired. Take time to understand
your own wants and needs before putting others first
this month. It’s your time to shine.
Sagittarius - Winter is approaching and you’re in
need of some time for yourself before the darkness
sets in. Enjoy the great out doors and free your mind of
all that clutter you have been carrying through summer
Pisces - Time to say goodbye and let go of what
doesn’t serve in your best interests. It’s OK to be no.1 in
your own life, after all if you don’t look after yourself, how
are you expected to look after others?
Taurus - You have been trying to figure out if
this new direction is right for you or not, we can
officially tell you the Sims Stars are aligned and
now is the time to seize the day and take that
leap of faith.
Cancer - Family can be confusing, but they have
got one thing that simple acquaintances haven’t,
that being ‘your back’. Ignore that rush of
adrenaline and listen to your family's advice, it will
see you through whats coming.
Virgo - Just because you may be seen as
innocent, doesn't mean you are, and we both
know you have a wild streak that needs to be set
free on occasion. Go have fun, let your hair down
and let your wild side be free for a while.
Scorpio - Science cannot always be right,
especially when it comes to matter of the heart
and faith in the unknown. Trust your instincts and
have faith in your own choices. You are on the
right pathway, keep going.
Capricorn - Being smart is sometimes hard,
especially when you have so many ideas and they
are not being listened to, your voice is as valid as
the next, don't allow yourself to be pushed aside
and forgotten.
