Dubai
Glitz & Glamour
Dubai remains to be the glittering Emirati nation, with its high-rise
glass-fronted buildings and opulent lifestyle, but dig a little deeper
and you’ll find so much more.
Within the centre of Dubai City is Dubai’s main spectacle, the iconic
Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It’s well worth taking a trip up
to the top of the Burj Khalifa for the views. We recommend you visit first
thing in the morning or in the evening after the daytime heat haze lifts.
In downtown Dubai, you’ll also find many luxurious malls, which go
beyond the tax-free shopping of designer labels - you can enjoy real
snow ski slopes, ice-skating rinks, aquariums, and virtual reality parks.
Feast at the hands of the world’s best celebrity and
Michelin-starred chefs, from Gordon Ramsay and
Nobu Matsuhisa to Massimo Bottura and Heinz Beck.
Close to Dubai City is the neighbourhood of Jumeirah and Jumeirah
Beach, which is overlooked by Dubai’s mesmerising skyline.
Did you
know?
Many neighbourhoods of Dubai use
the word Jumeirah in their name. This word is loosely
derived from the Arabic word Jumr, which means
ember or glowing, and also beautiful.
Take a jaunt out of the city into Dubai Desert, where you can go for
sundowners in the sand dunes by camel back or on an exhilarating
4x4 ride. For a truly special morning, head out on a sunrise hot air
balloon cruise and witness the wild desert animals.
Throughout Dubai you’ll find the world’s most extraordinary restaurants
that boast incredible backdrops, whether it’s a floor-to-ceiling
aquarium at chef Nathan Outlaw’s restaurant, to native flavours in
the desert restaurant of Al Hadheerah.
Dubai is known for The Palm Jumeirah, a series of breathtaking
artificial islands, which simulate a palm tree. You can see the structure
when you fly into the city, or you could head to the city’s newest 360
observation deck, The View, at the top of The St. Regis Dubai, The
Palm hotel.
Dubai’s ultimate family resort is undoubtedly Atlantis The Palm, a
vast oceanic resort filled with non-stop entertainment, including
watersports, tennis courts, the exhilarating water park Aquaventure,
and The Lost Chambers Aquarium. You can even swim with the
dolphins or snorkel in the Ambassador Lagoon!
The Palm Jumeirah is bursting with licensed rooftop bars and
restaurants, and is a perfect place after a day spent soaking up
the Arabian sun on the beach or enjoying a massage in a luxurious
traditional hammam.
Just south of The Palm Jumeirah is the gold star of beach life, Jumeirah
Beach Residence (JBR), which plays host to amazing premium beach
clubs and watersports. Take a leisurely walk around the pedestrianised
JBR and discover many fabulous shops and places to dine.
