But I think the council could
go further than this. The bill
could reference a check list
whereby if the checks were met,
it would guarantee the right to
supply chlorine-free water.
The way the bill is laid out at
the moment there is no sure path
and no guarantees that chlorine
free water will be permitted. –
Annette Burnett
I have completed the (council)
survey. It reads as though it has
been accepted and is merely a
management tool.
There is no mention of the
race-based assigning of 50 per
cent control to iwi, no asset
disbursement information and
no question as to whether one or
accepts it.
Surely the most appropriate
question to any ratepayer is yes or
no. I vote no
After the Havelock North 2016
E.coli incident legislation and
council procedures have already
been implemented. This scheme
is now five years out of date and
irrelevant.
The results of this survey can
be manipulated far too easily. –
Keith Shipston
We totally the reject the
Government proposal which
will deny our democratic right
to have a say. I have not seen
or heard any good long term
reasons that our council should
do as we are told in this matter –
dictatorship. – R Griffith
I would like for the three
waters scheme to be denied by
the council.
Reason being it is taking away
the power of the local council to
run its own resource which it has
done for well over a century now.
– Dale Mackle
I think the easiest way to
voice my opinion on this is to
quote the famous World War 2
United States General Anthony
McAuliffe.
When surrounded on all sides
by German forces in the town of
Bastogne the Germans offered
him the chance to surrender.
His reply was, “nuts”.
The US forces held out and won
the battle.
This should be our reply to the
Government.
You never give away your
resources. – Vince Vandergoes
Covid and Maori
Our Labour Government
appears to operate under a divide
and rule system when it has
Maori saying that they are going
to have Maori-only days for the
Covid jabs and a minister saying
that if stocks of the vaccine get
low he will make sure Maori get
it before others.
The idea that we are all New
Zealanders with equal rights
regardless of skin colour is
disappearing fast with this
Government.
This Government and its TV
One is also still promoting
by stealth without a mandate
from the population.
This issue needs to be voted
on at the next elections. – Ray
Ngai Tahu
investments
In the city’s daily newspaper
(Thursday, September 2) there
were two important references to
Ngai Tahu.
Firstly, the projected sale
of The Landing complex
with the footnote it has a
property portfolio valued at
$600 million.
Secondly, announcement
of the purchase of shares in
listed fishing company Sanford
giving it a holding of 12.5 per
cent worth about $65 million at
today’s price.
Ngai Tahu makes profits
from these ventures plus from
their other entities and yet it pays
no tax on those profits.
This gives it a huge advantage
over other companies that may
compete in those business sectors
that do.
It is also unreasonable as
all New Zealand citizens are
required to pay tax on income
earned whether wages, salaries
or investments to support
necessary Government
expenditure.
Other non-paying tax
organisations with religious
connections that own a variety
of national and local business
should also have their tax status
reviewed.
As Covid has emptied
the treasury coffers It is time
this anomaly is addressed.
