ASSISTANCE FOR VICTIMS:
RIGHTS AND OPTIONS
Regardless of whether a victim elects to pursue a
criminal complaint or whether the offense is alleged
to have occurred on or off campus, the College will
assist victims of sexual assault, domestic violence,
dating violence, and stalking and will provide each
victim with a written explanation of their rights and
options. Such written information will include:
• The procedures victims should follow if a crime of
dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault
or stalking has occurred;
• Information about how the institution will
protect the confidentiality of victims and other
necessary parties;
• A statement that the institution will provide
written notification to students and employees
about victim services within the institution and in
the community;
• A statement regarding the institution’s provisions
about options for, available assistance in, and
how to request accommodations and protective
measures; and
• An explanation of the procedures for institutional
disciplinary action.
Rights of Victims and the Institution’s Responsibilities for
Orders of Protection, “No Contact” Orders, Restraining
Orders, or Similar Lawful Orders Issued by a Criminal, Civil,
or Tribal Court or by the Institution.
Broward College complies with Florida law in
recognizing orders of protection. Any person who
obtains an order of protection from Florida or any
reciprocal state should provide a copy to campus
safety and the Title IX Coordinator. A complainant
may then meet with campus safety and the Title
IX Coordinator to develop a plan for the victim to
reduce risk of harm while on campus or coming and
going from campus. This plan may include, but is not
limited to, special parking arrangements, changing
classroom location or assignment modification. The
College cannot apply for a legal order of protection,
no contact order or restraining order for a victim
from the applicable jurisdiction(s).
The victim is required to apply directly for these
services after completing any of the following
protections. Orders available through the State of
Florida and applicable jurisdictions include:
