Mays Hill: Man fled after driving
vehicle into shop while drunk
A man has been charged with highrange
drink-driving after a crash in
Mays Hill last week.
Just after 2.30am on Wednesday,
November 3, emergency services were
called to a business on the Great Western
Highway at Mays Hill, following reports
that a vehicle had crashed into a shop
front before being driven from the scene.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police
Area Command attended and observed
extensive damage to the shop.
Police patrolled the area and located an
abandoned white Toyota Hilux nearby at
Rees Street, with extensive damage to
the front of the car.
After assistance from the Dog unit,
the 37-year-old male driver presented
himself to police. He was subjected to
a roadside breath test and allegedly
returned a positive result.
The Mays Hill man was arrested
and taken to Granville Police Station
for secondary breath analysis, which
returned a reading of 0.171.
His licence was suspended, and he was
subsequently issued a Court Attendance
Notice (CAN) for ‘drive with high range
PCA’ and ‘negligent driving’.
He is due to appear at Parramatta Local
Court on December 7.
Westmead: Police continue to
tackle organised crime
Criminal Groups Squad detectives
have laid additional charges against
a man in Westmead as part of ongoing
proactive activities to prevent and
disrupt organised crime within the
community.
On Thursday, October 28, detectives
from the State Crime Command’s
Criminal Groups and Raptor Squads
conducted a Firearm Prohibition Order
(FPO) search at a unit at Westmead.
During the search, police located a
loaded handgun, a gel-blaster firearm,
ammunition, and about 22 grams of
white powder, believed to be cocaine.
A crime scene was established, and all
items were seized for forensic and ballistic
examination.
A 24-year-old man and 34-year-old
woman were arrested at the property
and taken to Granville Police Station.
The man was charged with two counts
each of ‘possess unauthorised pistol’,
‘not keep firearm safely’ and ‘possess
ammunition without holding licence/
permit/authority’.
He was refused bail and appeared at
POLICE SNAPSHOT
Compiled by Nicola Barton
Parramatta Local Court, where he was
granted conditional bail to re-appear at
a later date.
The woman was charged with ‘possess
ammunition without holding licence/
permit/authority’, ‘hinder discovery
evidence serious indictable offence’,
‘supply prohibited drug’, and ‘resist or
hinder police officer in the execution of
duty’.
She was granted bail to appear at
Parramatta Local Court at a later date.
Following further inquiries, detectives
arrested the 24-year-old man at
Granville Police Station about 9am on
Monday, November 1.
He was charged with an additional
three offences, including ‘possess loaded
firearm public place’, ‘armed with intent
commit indictable offence’, and ‘supply
prohibited drug more than indictable
and below commercial quantity’.
Police will allege in court that the man
threatened another man during an altercation
on Sunday, October 24 using the
firearm which was recovered by police
during the FPO search.
It’s further alleged that the cocaine,
which was seized during the search and
forensically examined, was deemed to
have been in his possession.
Granville: Man busted for role in
elaborate phone scam
A man has been charged after investigators
uncovered an alleged elaborate
phone scam, seizing almost $30,000.
In June 2021, detectives attached to
Cumberland Police Area Command
established Strike Force Crago to
investigate reports several people had
received a call from someone purporting
to be from a law enforcement agency or
financial institution, demanding money
or gift cards under the threat of violence
or arrest.
As part of inquiries, detectives identified
a post office box in Granville which
was allegedly being used to facilitate the
scam and arrested a 41-year-old man
attempting to access the mailbox on
Friday, October 29.
Investigators executed a search
warrant, seizing a shoe box containing
$25,000 cash.
A warrant was also executed at the
man’s home on Boundary Street, seizing
an additional $4,900 and documents
relevant to their investigation.
The man was taken to Parramatta
Police Station where he was charged
with two counts of ‘knowingly deal with
