<strong>2021</strong> NSW LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS<br />

Saturday 4 December <strong>2021</strong><br />

If you are an Australian citizen who is 18 years or older and lives in NSW you are likely to be enrolled to vote<br />

at NSW Local Government elections.<br />

Every person whose name is on a council’s residential roll for a NSW Local Government election must vote in<br />

that Council’s election in December.<br />

You can check if and where you are enrolled to vote on the NSW Electoral Commission’s website at<br />

elections.nsw.gov.au<br />

Early voting options<br />

*Subject to eligibility. Check your eligibility at elections.nsw.gov.au<br />

Voting by post*<br />

You may be eligible to vote by post. COVID-19 – specific<br />

eligibility criteria may apply to your circumstances.<br />

You can apply online for a postal vote from Tuesday<br />

26 October. Find out more about postal voting at<br />

elections.nsw.gov.au or by calling 1300 135 736.<br />

Your postal vote application must be completed and<br />

received by 5pm, Monday 29 <strong>November</strong>.<br />

Voting online*<br />

Eligible voters may be able to apply to use the NSW<br />

Electoral Commission’s technology-assisted voting<br />

platform, iVote, at these elections. Eligible voters can<br />

register online at elections.nsw.gov.au or by calling<br />

1300 24 86 83.<br />

Applications will open from 9am, Monday 22 <strong>November</strong><br />

and applications close at 1pm, Saturday 4 December.<br />

Voting using iVote closes at 6pm, Saturday 4 December.<br />

If the 1pm application deadline is missed, iVote cannot<br />

be used to vote on the afternoon of election day.<br />

Voting early in person<br />

Pre-poll (early) voting begins on Monday 22 <strong>November</strong><br />

and ends on Friday 3 December.<br />

Early voting in person is available to all voters at these<br />

elections to help us stay COVID-safe.<br />

Not all pre-poll venues are open for the entire<br />

pre-poll voting period. For specific operating dates,<br />

times and the locations of pre-poll venues, visit<br />

elections.nsw.gov.au<br />

Voting on election day<br />

Polling (voting) places will open 8am–6pm on Saturday<br />

4 December. On a Local Government election day,<br />

voting in person is available only at polling places set<br />

up for your council area and/or ward (if your council<br />

area has wards).<br />

Visit elections.nsw.gov.au and enter your address to<br />

find out where you can vote.<br />

Voting is compulsory<br />

Everyone whose name is on a residential roll for a<br />

NSW Local Government election must vote in that<br />

council’s election.<br />

on the NSW Electoral Commission’s website here.<br />

There are penalties for not voting<br />

Voting is also compulsory for all voters included on<br />

the City of Sydney non-residential roll. Voting is not<br />

compulsory for voters included on the non-residential<br />

roll for other councils.<br />

Each candidate has a ‘Candidate Information Sheet’<br />

that will be available at elections.nsw.gov.au<br />

Registered electoral material<br />

Electoral material (how-to vote cards) registered by<br />

the NSW Electoral Commission for distribution on<br />

election day are available for inspection on the NSW<br />

Electoral Commission website elections.nsw.gov.au<br />

from Monday, 22 <strong>November</strong> to 6pm, Saturday<br />

4 December <strong>2021</strong>.<br />
