Punjab waives income limit
on pension of Olympians
Chandigarh : Acceding to a
long-pending demand of former
Olympians, Punjab Sports
and Youth Affairs Minister
Pargat Singh on Monday
announced to waive the condition
of income limit on pension
of medal winner international
players.
An announcement to this
regard was made by the minister
during an interaction with
former players held here
regarding formulation of new
sports policy.
He said instead of big stadiums,
major thrust will be laid
on establishing coaching centres.
Pargat Singh said, in order
to streamline sports in the state
a 20-member committee comprising
of players of various
games is being constituted so
that benefit can be taken from
their vast experience and
expertise in field of sports.
The minister said the government
is in process of formulating
a policy wherein the
services of the players recruited
under sports quota will be taken
by the department. He exhorted
such government officers to
voluntarily opt for this scheme
to uplift the level of sports in

Gurugram : After a gap of two
months, Gurugram district recorded a
Covid death on Monday, taking the
total death toll in the district to 924.

"This is the first Covid related
death after the first week of
September. The person who died was
aged 70. He was fully vaccinated and
had co-morbidity," Dr Virender Yadav,

Gurugram, said adding that, there has
been a marginal increase in Covid
cases in the last few days due to gatherings
during the festive
season".
According to the daily
Covid bulletin during the
last 15 days of this month,
Gurugram reported 132
Covid infected patients,
whereas in October, 206
patients were found to be
infected.
As of now, the Health
Department has carried
out Covid tests of
21,08,299 persons in

Department of Pre-University Education
in Karnataka to conduct mid-term board
exams amid fears of a possible third
wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered
a row in the state.
The All India Democratic Students'
Organisation (AIDSO) has called for a
bundh on Tuesday against conducting
the board exams instead of regular
midterm exams.
The department has prepared question
papers on lines of annual examination
and will hold the exams for 6.5 lakh
students at a time between November 29
and December 10. Sources in the education
department said that the decision has
been taken in the backdrop of fears of a
possible third Covid wave.
Earlier, mid-term exams were not conducted
simultaneously. The Pre-University
College Principal's Association prepared
question papers in every district and evaluated
the answer sheets at the college level.

Gurugram records first Covid death after 2 months
were vaccinated with the first dose and
8,735 got the second dose. M.P. Singh,
the nodal officer and deputy civil surgeon
of the vaccination campaign,
says that so far 36,96,049 vaccines
have been administered in Gurugram.
Apart from this, the health department
has recommended three places
— Chandra apartment in Sector 55,
Ridgewood Estate in DLF phase 4 and
South Close Nirvana Country in
Sector 50 to be declared as containment
zones, after a total of 12 Covid
cases were reported from these areas

Fake SIM card
racket busted
in J&K
Srinagar : Jammu and
Kashmir Police said on Monday
that it has busted a fake SIM
card racket in Baramulla district.
"The accused person
would issue fake SIM cards
after managing forged documents.
"Three persons, Owais
Farooq Waza, Suhail Aziz and
Javid Ahmad Kanjwal, all residents
of Baramulla, have been
arrested in this case.
"Incriminating material including
mobile phones along with
SIM cards, electronic gadgets
and documents have been
recovered from their possession.
"Case under sections of
UA (P) Act and IPC has been
registered against the accused
and further investigation is
going on", police said.
