Tuesday 23rd November - Ascot United 2-1 Wokingham - U18 Allied Counties
South After the battling draw away to Westfield, Ascot were at home on the Racecourse to
second placed Wokingham who had beaten the young yellamen 5-0 only a few weeks
earlier.
Immediately the young yellamen showed they were not prepared to accept the
previous result and a strong, battling and resilient performance ensued.
The yellamen went ahead on 14 mins when Alex Hall was sent clear and coolly beat
the keeper. Ascot continued to press and squandered a number of good chances to
extend their lead but arrived at half time one to the good and disappointed that they
were not further ahead. With manager Nice ensuring the pace and passion stayed
strong Ascot continued where they left off and it wasn’t long before Hall completed
his brace for the night with another well taken finish.
As the second half progressed it seemed only a matter of time before Ascot scored
again but they failed to take a number of opportunities to do so. With 15 mins to go
Wokingham got themselves back in the game when their CF took the ball in to the
area and on beating 3 weak tackles slid the ball in to make it 2-1. A nervy last few
minutes ensued after it appeared Ascot had been cruising to a comfortable win but a
battling defensive display ensured the game stayed at 2-1 and the young Yellamen
avenged their league defeat earlier in the season.
