Rotary Student of the Month - London<br />

Motivated and exceptional<br />

The London Rotary Club is pleased<br />

to honor senior Brooklyn Sims as London<br />

High School’s November Student of<br />

the Month.<br />

Students of the month are selected<br />

by school administrators based on their<br />

academic and extracurricular achievement<br />

and positive character.<br />

Brooklyn has a 4.22 grade point average,<br />

is ranked ninth in her class and<br />

states her favorite class is Spanish. She<br />

has played varsity volleyball for three<br />

years and was a captain this year. The<br />

team was district runner-up this season.<br />

About Brooklyn, Greenlee said,<br />

“Brooklyn Sims is an exceptional student<br />

both inside and out of the classroom.<br />

She spends any opportunity to<br />

practice Spanish in order to improve<br />

her ability, as well as assists other students.<br />

This has helped her become a<br />

leader within the classroom and to her<br />

peers.<br />

“Her motivation to exceed academically<br />

has followed her throughout her<br />

high school career. After speaking<br />

with Brooklyn about her future plans,<br />

she was highly motivated to partici-<br />

Brooklyn has been a member of National<br />

Honor Society since 2020 and is on student council<br />

this school year. She has been an FFA member since<br />

2018 and has earned Greenhand and chapter degrees.<br />

When asked to name a school staff person who inspires<br />

her, Brookyln named Spanish teacher Roy Greenlee.<br />

“Profe. Greenlee values each student and does everything<br />

he can to ensure that everyone is successful,” she<br />

said.<br />

After graduation, Brooklyn plans to<br />

attend a university to earn a bachelor’s degree in middle<br />

childhood education and eventually obtain a master’s<br />

degree. Brooklyn is the daughter of Scott and Julia Sims<br />

of London.<br />

The London Rotary Club has a proud history dating<br />

back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary International, a<br />

volunteer organization of 1.2 million businesses and<br />

professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian<br />

service and help build good will and peace.<br />

Superintendent leading<br />

school building tours<br />

London City Schools Superintendent Dr. Lou Kramer is<br />

hosting a series of community tours and information sessions<br />

designed for parents and community members who would like<br />

to learn more about the district. Those who participate will receive<br />

a tour of each of the district’s schools, a first-hand look<br />

at several of the district’s programs, and have the opportunity<br />

to participate in a Q&A session with Kramer, other staff members,<br />

and students.<br />

Tours are set for 9:30-11 a.m. Dec. 15, Jan. 12 and Jan. 26.<br />

Parents and community members interested in participating<br />

can sign up by calling the district office at (740) 852-5700 or<br />

Plains High School’s November<br />

Student of the<br />

Month.<br />

Students of the month<br />

Adriel has a 4.017 grade<br />

point average and is<br />

ranked third in her class.<br />

Her favorite course is Biology<br />

2. Adriel has been on<br />

the soccer and basketball<br />

teams for four years. She<br />

has received several Adriel Owens<br />

awards in both sports and<br />

recently named first-team All-Ohio Heritage<br />

Conference for soccer. She has been on<br />

the honor roll many times and is a member<br />

of the National Honor Society.<br />

When asked to name a school staff person<br />

who inspires her, Adriel said, “An inspiration<br />

of mine would be Ms. (Molly) Niese<br />

because she always finds a way to be happy<br />

and enjoy our time. It<br />

helped me realize I can<br />

make anything fun and enjoyable.”<br />

About Adriel, Niese<br />

said, “Adriel lights up any<br />

classroom she walks into<br />

with her quest for knowledge,<br />

kindness and outgoing<br />

personality. She is<br />

always willing to participate<br />

in class, lend a helping<br />

hand or catch a frog<br />

whenever necessary. She is<br />

a bright light, and the<br />

world is a better place because<br />

she is in it.”<br />

After graduation, Adriel<br />

plans to become a dental<br />

assistant and work her<br />

way up. She is the daughter<br />

of Warren and Tina Owens.<br />
