Pursuant to <strong>Austria</strong>’s membership <strong>in</strong> the European Union, EU/EEA citizens, Swiss citizens and their<br />

family members (spouses, children, stepchildren and adopted children) are entitled to live and work<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong> without work permits <strong>in</strong> accordance with the pr<strong>in</strong>ciple of “free movement of labour.” Special<br />

rules apply <strong>in</strong> the case of “new” EU citizens from Bulgaria, Rumania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,<br />

Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. (Also see section 6.8)<br />

6.1 seek<strong>in</strong>g employment from the eu/eea countries/switzerland and <strong>in</strong> austria<br />

prior to arriv<strong>in</strong>g to austria you can obta<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation and use various services on the<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternet:<br />

� seek<strong>in</strong>g employment, prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>in</strong>formation, regional job opportunities us<strong>in</strong>g EURES<br />

� seek<strong>in</strong>g employment us<strong>in</strong>g the AMS (<strong>Austria</strong>n Employment Service) website; you can<br />

also register onl<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong> the eJob-Room<br />

� AMS (<strong>Austria</strong>n Employment Service) services: career focus test (career compass), <strong>in</strong>teractive<br />

application tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, application coach (application tips, etc.)<br />

� Information provided by the AMS (<strong>Austria</strong>n Employment Service): career <strong>in</strong>formation database<br />

(BIS, Berufs<strong>in</strong>formationsdatenbank), career lexica, qualifications barometer (Qualifikations-<br />

barometer; labour market trends, opportunities on the <strong>Austria</strong>n labour market based on<br />

qualifications), further education database (Weiterbildungsdatenbank), career <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

centres (Berufs<strong>in</strong>formationszentrum, BIZ), barrier-free access to AMS offices,<br />

unemployment benefits<br />

� <strong>Austria</strong>n Employment Service (AMS) <strong>in</strong>formation for young people: workroom (Arbeitszimmer),<br />

� employment seekers can obta<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation on claim<strong>in</strong>g unemployment benefits from<br />

the employment service or the competent authority <strong>in</strong> their home country<br />

after hav<strong>in</strong>g arrived <strong>in</strong> austria you have to observe the follow<strong>in</strong>g when seek<strong>in</strong>g employment:<br />

unemployment compensation) it is necessary to personally register at the competent office<br />

the EURES network at the competent employment service office <strong>in</strong> the EU/EEA countries/Switzerland.<br />

The EURES website <strong>in</strong>forms job seekers amongst others about liv<strong>in</strong>g and work<strong>in</strong>g conditions as<br />

well as job opportunities <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dividual EEA states regions and <strong>in</strong> Switzerland as well as lists job<br />

vacancies. Additionally you can post your personal CV onl<strong>in</strong>e which can be viewed by potential employers.<br />

More than 700 specially tra<strong>in</strong>ed EURES advisors are work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the public employment services <strong>in</strong> all<br />

EU/EEA countries and Switzerland to support and advise citizens seek<strong>in</strong>g a job <strong>in</strong> another EU/EEA<br />

country or Switzerland. You can f<strong>in</strong>d your EURES advisers responsible for the desired region us<strong>in</strong>g<br />
