Welcome to One Darlington
Welcome to the first One Darlington of 2022 –
we hope you had a fantastic Christmas and are
looking forward to an optimistic new year.
The decorations may have gone back in the loft for
another year, but it will only be a few more weeks
until spring is in the air.
Hang in there for the last few weeks of winter – our
featured picture, of the River Tees between Broken
Scar and Blackwell, shows the kind of weather we’ll
hopefully be enjoying before we know it.
We take a look back at some of the highlights from
2021 on page 26, while the centre spread is full of
information about some of the great events coming
up this month and next.
If it’s reasons to be cheerful you’re looking for,
head to pages 4 and 5 to find out about the £1.6m
investment in grassroots facilities at Eastbourne
Sports Complex.
This year will be an important one for the council’s
efforts to become environmentally friendly. Climate
change officer Emma Moore is profiled as part
of our #50Faces series, showcasing some of the
council’s dedicated staff and their roles. Find out
more on page 16.
Elsewhere, if you have the desire to find a new
challenge this new year, turn to page 34 to read
more about this month’s police recruitment drive.
Could you become a police officer?
