Volunteering is a great habit to have. First, giving back
to the community is a great way to make this world a
better place. Giving time and joy to others gradually
color in individuals who have lost their colors due to
difficult times and problems. Secondly, it taught important
lessons. You’ll learn so much from the people you
help or by the circumstance. Whether if you learn from
a child to be creative and to keep an optimistic mindset
about this world or if you learn from an older soul
the real definition of friendship and the beauty in the
ups and downs of life, you will become a better version
of yourself little by little. I can tell you that through all
the volunteering I did including animate activities for children
from disadvantaged schools, I would do tutoring
for free, or be a volunteer at school events, I changed
for the better. Just start and see how you will blossom.
Like I said earlier, I am Senegalese. It is very important
to me to embrace my culture by wearing Senegalese outfits,
by speaking my language, by celebrating Senegalese
events, or by learning about my history. I also want others
to love their own culture. It is not easy to do when you
grow outside of your country because you are constantly
exposed to a culture that is not the one of your family.
However, one does not preclude the other. While enjoying
yours and not forgetting your roots, you can love and
join in the culture of your country. Never be embarrassed
to love your home country. Your skin color, your hair type,
the shape of your body, your size, your language, your
Having this title is a big responsibility – I
must inspire my community and help them.
religion, your cultural clothes make you so beautiful and
so original among all this batch of people. Then, if you can
appreciate who you are and show it to the world, you will
shine like the sun on this earth. If only all humans could be
open to diversity, they would see how we would function
better. More people would have confidence in them, we
could learn more about the different cultures around this
world, we could help each other more and we would live in
harmony. Unfortunately, this is not the case and that is
why we must fight to put the torn pieces back together.
Several actions can help; volunteering in a non-profit organization
promoting diversity, participating in walks, making
speeches about diversity, talking about it with family
and friends, being open-minded towards people who are
different from ourselves, and many other ways. Just must
start somewhere and little by little will change this world.
Having the title of Miss Montérégie 2021, I want to promote
diversity because it is an important value that my
parents taught me since I am very young. I’ll continue to
work and find ways to accomplish it. I also want to inspire
younger people than me that need a role model to have
hope in their dreams and goals. I want to help them as
much as possible so they can shine to their fullest potential.
Everyone deserves a chance! I just want to be the sun
of people’s days because with all the bad news, the stress,
the pollution and all the other problems around the world,
it is easy to forget to smile. But with the big amount
of happiness that I have, I want to spread my happiness
as much as possible, so everyone can be happier. People
often call me "a ray of sun" because of the positivity and
energy I bring every day. The funny part is that I didn’t
know that I was a happy person, people made me realize
that. Hahahahaha Now that I am aware of that, I want to
continue to make people laugh pr smile whether it is by
telling an anecdote, by inspiring them, by helping them,
by fighting for their rights, or just by being the Aichatou
that I am who was born with an excess of joy in her DNA.
