Das neue MBS Logistikzentrum setzt Maßstäbe.
Von der Idee über die Planung und
dem ersten Spatenstich bis zur Fertigstellung
im Juli 2003 vergingen gerade
mal 2 Jahre. Und es zeigt sich,
dass die Entscheidung richtig war:
Das neue MBS Logistikzentrum hat
seine Bewährungsprobe im Praxisbetrieb
glänzend bestanden. Der
neue Standort, mit Hilfe der Stadt
Köln in der Hansestraße im Stadtteil
Porz gefunden, bietet ideale Bedingungen:
Auf mehr als 22.000 qm

The removal to our new forwarding
facility has been completed.
Many thanks to our staff who
have assisted us using their full
commitment as ever so that we
were able to re-start operation
without any interruptions worth
mentioning.
It is just this team spirit that is a
considerable component of our
success, and we hope that our
customers
will also
continue to
acknowledge
this
spirit and
commitment.
With this investment,
we have created the
conditions for a further successful
and future-orientated working.
We and our employees are facing
the challenge of continuously providing
you, our customers, with a
high level of service and an outstanding

We hope that our customers will
show some understanding for the
introduction of the so-called "Lorry
Toll” (usage fee) of which the
corresponding bill was passed by
the Federal Government, and that
they will not try to compensate
additional expenditure through
our industry, as happened in
many cases with other additional
costs (e.g. Eco tax) which had not
been caused by our trade.
We in our trade, and also the
shipping agents, do need sound

New MBS Logistics Center is
setting new standards
It only took two years from the
idea, to the planning, to the first
cut of spade up to the completion
of the building in July 2003.
The decision proved to be the
right one: the new MBS Logistics
Center has passed its practical
test with excellence. The new
location, which could be found in
the district Porz with to the help
of the city of Cologne, provides
best conditions: on a site bigger
than 20,000 sqm a warehouse of
10,000 sqm was build which
hosts a high rack facility for
14,000 pallets as well as handling
area of 4,500 sqm. The warehouse
with its 21 ramp-gates is
opened 24 hours a day.
The 2,800 sqm office space are
equipped with high tech accessories,
such as fiber optic cables.
Sophisticated access control and
alarm systems provide highest
security standards on the entire
property.
The investment volume has been
approx. 13 million euros. Responsibility
for coordination of the total
project took Georg Ludwig.
Taking joint action with the architecture
firm Georg + Juhr and the
building company Munte, the
project was finished in record
time. Tanks to the commitment of
the entire MBS team, the move
went absolutely smoothly. A superb
performance!
From the beginning on, all expectations
have been fulfilled: ideal
infrastructure, proximity to the
airport, 24 hour service and the
flexibility of the property open
best chances for the future.
Complex tasks, such as fulfillment
solutions, e-commerce logistics,
procurement and manufacturing
logistics, distribution or
disposal logistics can be easily
accomplished. Goods at risk from
theft, for instance mobile phones,
can be stored and handled in the
security area. All transport services
can be controlled centrally using
the new logistics center. By
means of state-of-the-art loading
facilities time frames could be essentially
tightened. Also, inter-
German transport and European
land transport as well as air- and
ocean freight handling, too, have
been substantially improved.
This way the new logistics center
will set new standards, provide
resources for future challenges
and it will strengthen Cologne as
a business location.

MBS auch auf der CeBit 2003
Ein großes Highlight in diesem Jahr
war der Messeauftritt der MBS Gruppe
auf der CeBit, der weltgrößten
Messe für Informationstechnologie
und Telekommunikation in Hannover.
Zum ersten Mal haben wir uns mit unseren
Partnern Hawk Precision Logistics
und K&N Kopenhagen einen
Stand geteilt. Federführend bei der
Organisation war die MBS in Kelsterbach.
Mit der Neugestaltung des Messestandes
hatten wir im Vorfeld eigens
einen Architekten beauftragt. Durch
dessen innovative Gestaltung des
Stands mit futuristischen Elementen
und einer Menge Lichteffekte wurden
wir zum Blickfang für Vorbeischlendernde
und zum Erlebnis für Besu-
cher. Auch die hervorragende Positionierung
in diesem Jahr - in Halle 27,
mitten im Geschehen - kam uns zu Gute.
So konnten wir während der Messe
nicht nur alle wichtigen Kunden
und Partner an unserem Stand begrüßen,
sondern auch viele neue wertvolle
Kontakte knüpfen.
Der absolute Höhepunkt der Messetage
war auch in diesem Jahr unsere
Standparty am Freitag abend. Nach
Messeschluss konnten wir weit über
200 Gäste aus dem In- und Ausland
auf unserem Messestand begrüßen,
die dann auch bei Kölsch, Sekt und
Wein bis um kurz vor zwölf ausgelassen
feierten.
Wir möchten uns an dieser Stelle bei
allen Mitarbeitern bedanken, die bei
der Organisation geholfen haben und
unserem Messeauftritt zu einem tollen
Erfolg gemacht haben.
MBS also took part
in the CeBit 2003!
The MBS group set a big highlight,
showing up this year at the CeBit in
Hanover, the world’s largest fair on information
technology and telecommunication.
For the first time ever, we shared a
stand with our partners Hawk Precision
Logistics and K&N Copenhagen.
MBS Kelsterbach took the lead in
terms of organization.
In the run-up to this event, we commissioned
an architect to devise a
new design for the exhibition stand.
Because of the architect’s innovative
design, using futurist elements and a
lot of lighting effects, we became an
eye catcher for passers-by, marking a
tremendous experience for visitors.
Also this year’s outstanding positioning
of the stand – in hall 27, right there
where the action is – was of benefit
to us. So, during the fair, we could
not only welcome all the key customers
and partners at our stand, but
we could also establish new and valuable
contacts.
In this year too, the ultimate highlight
of the days of the fair was our stand
party on Friday evening. On the afterfair
party at our stand, we were glad to

be able to welcome far more than 200
guests from home and abroad, who
celebrated exuberantly from then on
over a glass of “Kölsch”, champagne
or wine by shortly before midnight.
At this point, we would like
to express our thanks to all
the staff who assisted in
organizing this event, making
our appearance at the
fair a great success.

LKW Maut nun doch erst ab November
Die Einführung der entfernungsabhängigen
Autobahnmaut für LKW mit
einem zulässigen Gesamtgewicht ab
12 Tonnen kommt nun doch nicht, wie
geplant, am 31. August 2003. Statt
dessen hat die Bundesregierung den
Termin nun um 2 Monate verschoben.
Ab dem 2. November soll die Mautgebühr
dann eingezogen werden.
In den verbleibenden Monaten bis zu
diesem Termin soll das Mautsystem
auf seine Tauglichkeit getestet werden.
Der Bundesverband Spedition
und Logistik begrüßt diese Entscheidung.
So wird allen Betroffenen Zeit
gegeben, sich an das neue System zu
gewöhnen schon einmal den Umgang
mit On-Board Units, Interneteinbuchung
oder stationären Terminals zu
erproben.

Gegen die geplante Mautkompensation
für das Straßentransportgewerbe
von jährlich 600 Mio. Euro hat die
EU-Kommission Ende Juli ein Beihilfeprüfverfahren
eingeleitet. Der aktuelle
Vorschlag der Kommission, die
Kompensationen auf sieben, zehn
oder zwölf Jahre zu beschränken wird
derzeit von der Bundesregierung geprüft.
Die MBS in Kelsterbach begrüßt ab
dem 1. August Stefan Koepcke als

Now Lorry Toll yet to be introduced
not before November
Contrary to the initial planning, the motorway
toll for lorries with a maximum
permitted weight of 12 tonnes and above,
will now not be introduced on August 31,
2003. Instead of this, the Federal Government
postponed the date for two months.
The toll charge shall be collected starting
from November 02.
During the course of the remaining
months, up to this date, the toll system
shall be checked on its suitability. The
“Federal Forwarding and Logistics Association”
has welcomed this decision. So
all those concerned are given some time
to get used to the new system, to test the
handling of on-board units and internet
bookings or fixed terminals.
In late July, the EU Commission has
launched an allowance test inquiry regarding
the scheduled toll compensation
for the road transport industry worth of
600 million Euro annually. The current
proposal of the Commission to restrict
compensations to seven, ten or twelve
years is currently being checked by the
Federal Government.

WCA Meeting in Bangkok
Vom 27. Februar bis 01. März fand zum
fünften Mal das jährliche World Cargo
Alliance Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand
statt. Das Meeting zeichnet sich durch
die Teilnahme der Repräsentanten von
über 375 Mitgliedern als das weltweit
größte private Zusammentreffen von
Spediteuren aus.
Für die MBS-Gruppe waren Johannes
Steckel, Peter Reschke, Monika Geier
und Roswitha Sprick dabei, die bei dieser
Gelegenheit natürlich auch noch
andere Partner in dieser Region besuchten.
„Hier wird Geschichte geschrieben“,
bemerkte WCA Präsident und Gründer
David L. Yokeum, „und WCA ist davon
begeistert, das Medium zu sein, durch
das die mehr als 450 Mitglieder an dieser
einzigartigen, globalen Partnerschaft
teilhaben können. Die Hürden
die wir bewältigen mussten um ein
Event in dieser Größenordnung zu organisieren
waren enorm – aber das
Feedback der Mitglieder war extrem
positiv. Fast alle Teilnehmer hatten das
Gefühl, dass ihre Präsenz die Zeit und
Anstrengung Wert war.“
Auf der Meeting Agenda des dreitägigen
Events, das im 5 Sterne Dusit Thani
Hotel abgehalten wurde, standen neben
informativen Präsentationen und
Diskussionen über aktuelle Themen
mehr als 10.000 im Voraus arrangierte,
individuelle Treffen, für die insgesamt
dreizehneinhalb Stunden eingeplant
wurden. „Diese ’face-to-face’ Meetings
sind der entscheidende Vorteil
der Konferenz für viele Teilnehmer, da
man enorm viele Firmen auf einmal

hat neben dem Hauptsitz in Miami,
Florida bereits eine asiatische Geschäftsstelle
in Bangkok.
Und die Anzahl der Mitglieder wächst
stetig weiter. Am 24. Juli wurde das 500.
Mitglied in den Reihen der WCA begrüßt
die Basrah, Irak Geschäftsstelle
der National Express Company Kuwait.

From Feburary 27th until March 1st the
fifth annual World Cargo Alliance meeting
took place in Bangkok Thailand. The
event is reportedly the largest private gathering
of independent freight forwarders
with over 375 WCA member representatives
in attendance.
The MBS Group was represented by Johannes
Steckel, Peter Reschke, Monika
Geier and Roswitha Sprick, who took the
opportunity to also visit with other partners
in this region.
"History has been made here," remarked
WCA President and founder David L.
Yokeum, "and WCA is thrilled to be the
channel through which its more than 450
member offices can fully participate in this
global partnership unparalleled today
among independent freight forwarders.

bringing off an event of this magnitude

The three-day event, held at the 5-
Star Dusit Thani Hotel, had a meeting agen-
da packed with informative presentations
and discussions of vital issues facing transportation
service providers. In addition,
greater than 10,000 pre-scheduled individual
meetings were held over the thirteen
and one-half hours devoted to such member-to-member
sessions. "These face-toface
meetings are a major benefit of the
conference for members because they can
each visit with so many companies at the
expense of just one trip, rather than having
to travel all over the world,” explained Mr.
Yokeum.
As the final general session concluded, Mr.
Yokeum announced plans to open a WCA
branch office in Shanghai China in order to
better position the group to participate in
the world’s fastest growing market. The
network already has an Asia Regional office
in Bangkok in addition to its Miami
Florida USA headquarters.
And the number of members is steadily increasing.

has been enrolled by the WCA: the Basrah,
Iraq office of National Express Company

The system supports both IATA standard
bookings and the Lufthansa e-booking
method. Air waybill data is electronically
transmitted by the forwarding agent
to the airline; at the same time, current
flight schedule and availability can be
called up.
So time-consuming processes, such as
airline call-ups, consignment bookings,
air waybill draw-up etc., will soon vanish.

Joe Gavilan ist ein mit allen Wassern
gewaschener Cop in Hollywood,
der zusammen mit seinem
Partner, dem Greenhorn K.C. Calden
immer dann gerufen wird, wenn es
hinter der Fassade des glamourösen
Jahrmarkts der Eitelkeiten zur
Sache geht. Und dabei hat es Joe
wahrhaftig nicht leicht...
Um seine diversen Ratenzahlungen
und Schulden zu begleichen, arbeitet
er neben seinen Ermittlungen in
Teilzeit als Immobilienmakler und
versucht, dabei endlich den großen
Coup zu landen. Sein Partner K.C.
jobbt währenddessen nebenher als
Yogalehrer und träumt von einer
Hollywood-Karriere als Schauspieler.
Als sich in einem angesagten Club
ein Mord an einer kompletten Rapformation
ereignet, sehen beide
Cops ihre Chance gekommen: Joe
hofft, endlich einen Interessenten
für ein besonders attraktives Haus
zu finden und K.C. glaubt, hier die
richtigen Leute zu treffen, die ihm
bei seiner Schauspielerlaufbahn
helfen können. Und so hetzen die
beiden von einem Termin zum nächsten.

Joe Gavilan is a cop in Hollywood who
knows every trick in the book. Together
with his partner, the greenhorn K.C. Calden,
he is always called when it comes to
the crunch behind the façade of the glamorous
vanity fair. And with it, Joe does
not really have an easy time…
In order to settle various deferred payments
and debts, he, apart from carrying
out investigations, works part-time as an
estate agent, thereby trying to pull off a
coup at last. Meanwhile, his partner K.C.
additionally jobs around as a yoga teacher,
dreaming of a Hollywood career as
an actor.
When a murder of an entire rap formation
takes place in a club that is hip, both cops
fancy their chances: Joe hopes to finally
find a prospective buyer for a particularly
attractive house, and K.C. thinks to
meet the right people here who could help
him with his career as an actor. So, both
of them are rushing from one date to the
next one - from a house viewing date to a
post-mortem, from an interrogation to a
yoga lesson; always on the trail of prospective
buyers, influential agents and
potential suspects.

Auch in diesem Jahr veranstaltete die
Lufthansa Cargo wieder ihr beliebtes
Golfturnier für ihre Geschäftpartner,
den 9. Lufthansa Cargo Golf Cup. Austragungsort
war, wie auch schon im
Vorjahr, Riedstadt, die schöne Anlage
des Kiawah Golfclubs.
Als es am 27. Juni ab 9.30 Uhr losging,
starteten Monika und Karl-Heinz
Geier für die MBS-FRA und Barbara
und Johannes Steckel für die MBS-
CGN.
Und nicht nur zahlreich, sondern auch
erfolgreich war die MBS vertreten.
Beim „Nearest to the Pin“ belegte
Barbara Steckel in der Damenwertung
den ersten Platz und gewann
somit ein Wochenende im Golfhotel
Maximilian in Bad Griesbach. An
dieser Stelle nochmals herzlichen
Glückwunsch!
Im Anschluss an das Golfturnier lud
die Lufthansa noch zum gemeinsamen
Abendessen in der super Atmosphäre
des Kiawah Clubs. Bei der
Tombola, deren Erlös zugunsten der
psychiatrischen Kliniken Philipshospital
ging, gewann Familie Geier dann
den ersten Preis: einen Gutschein für
zwei Personen über ein festgebuchtes
Ticket in der Business Class für
einen innereuropäischen Flug. Auch
hierzu herzlichen Glückwunsch!
Die MBS bedankt sich bei Lufthansa

In this year, too, Lufthansa Cargo
organized its popular golf tournament
for their business partners -
the 9th Lufthansa Cargo Golf Cup.
As already in the previous year,

Riedstadt. When it started at 9.30 am on June
27, Monika and Karl-Heinz Geier competed for
MBS-FRA and Barbara and Johannes Steckel
started for MBS-CGN.
And MBS was not only represented in large
numbers, but it was also successful. In the
women’s score, Barbara Steckel came
first with regard to the "Nearest to
the Pin” scoring, thus winning a
free weekend in the golf hotel
Maximilian at Bad Griesbach.
At this point, we would like to
say congratulations again!
Following the golf tournament,
Lufthansa invited all participants
to a joint dinner, taking place in
the great atmosphere of the Kiawah
Club. During the raffle, of
which the revenues went to the
benefit of the psychiatric clinic of
Philips hospital, the family Geier
won the first prize - a gift token for
two persons for a fix-booked business
class ticket each on an intra-European
flight. For this also, congratulations!
MBS would like to express its thanks
toward Lufthansa Cargo for the invitation
to this lovely and well-organized
event, and we hope that, in the next
year, there will also be a Lufthansa
Cargo Golf Cup, where we hope MBS
