In The Sonic Image, <strong>the</strong> artist maps out an<br />

aes<strong>the</strong>tic atlas for how we see sound—that<br />

leak<strong>in</strong>g of substances, which cannot be held<br />

by <strong>the</strong> membrane of ei<strong>the</strong>r state or person;<br />

body or apparatus.<br />

Mur Murs (Mural Murals) by<br />

Agnes Varda<br />

Narrated by Agnes Varda, Mur Murs is an exploration of<br />

<strong>the</strong> vibrant public murals around Los Angeles, California <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> 1980s. Mov<strong>in</strong>g through <strong>the</strong> city, from Venice Beach to<br />

Watts, Varda <strong>in</strong>terviews artists and captures <strong>the</strong> spectacular<br />

and often socially critical murals <strong>the</strong>y produce. The film is at<br />

once a catalogue of strik<strong>in</strong>g artworks, a portrait of <strong>the</strong> city’s<br />

diverse communities, as well as a barometer of <strong>the</strong> social<br />

issues of <strong>the</strong> time.<br />
