Reunion and <strong>Penryn</strong> Scholar Exchange<br />
Mr Gunther Swart and a group of 9 scholars participated in an exchange to the Reunion Islands as part of the<br />
exchange programme between Lycee Lavavaseur and <strong>Penryn</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Scholars were hosted by Lycee<br />
Lavavaseur scholars in their family homes. Various activities such visiting the active Piton de la Fournaise<br />
volcano, going out to sea in a glass bottom boat to look at Dolphins and Sea Turtles and canyoning and<br />
abseiling in the Reunion mountains.<br />
I) Founders’ Day 21 st Celebrations:<br />
Founders’ Day was held on the rugby field. What a great surprise the Fish Eagles provided on the day! Mr<br />
Paul Harris, Chairman of Trust officially named our sports fields which have been named after people who<br />
played a founding role in the early history of <strong>Penryn</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
The names are:<br />
Cricket Oval The Bill Carter Oval<br />
Rugby / Soccer The David Wylde field<br />
Rugby / Soccer The Professor Selby Ripinga field<br />
Hockey The Dr Rob Snaddon field<br />
Cricket B The Mr Robbie Williams field<br />
The John Lees Foundation Phase building was officially opened by Mr Lees on 19 April <strong>2012</strong>. Mr Harris also<br />
officially thanked the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund for their contribution towards making the building of the<br />
John Lees Foundation phase possible.<br />
In recognition of our 21 st birthday celebrations, the Uplands <strong>College</strong> and Preparatory School family generously<br />
gave the <strong>Penryn</strong> family a beautiful bronze statue of a Warthog, with the inscription - “Share our similarities,<br />
celebrate our differences” – M. Scott-Peck .<br />
