International Women's Day is<br />
celebrated on <strong>March</strong> 8th every<br />
year and is one of <strong>the</strong> most<br />
significant days of <strong>the</strong> year. It is<br />
a worldwide event that honors<br />
women's social, economic, cultural,<br />
and political achievements. It<br />
offers an opportunity to reflect on<br />
progress made, to call for change,<br />
and to celebrate acts of courage<br />
and determ<strong>in</strong>ation by ord<strong>in</strong>ary<br />
women who have played an<br />
extraord<strong>in</strong>ary role <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> history of<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir countries and communities.<br />
#BreakTheBias is <strong>the</strong> campaign<br />
<strong>the</strong>me for International Women's<br />
Day <strong>2022</strong>. The <strong>the</strong>me highlights <strong>the</strong><br />
importance of challeng<strong>in</strong>g biases<br />
and misconceptions <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terest<br />
of creat<strong>in</strong>g a more <strong>in</strong>clusive and<br />
gender-equal world.<br />
Accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> United Nations,<br />
International Women's Day started<br />
<strong>in</strong> America <strong>in</strong> 1909, when <strong>the</strong><br />
Socialist Party of America took<br />
to <strong>the</strong> streets to honor garment<br />
workers who had protested aga<strong>in</strong>st<br />
<strong>in</strong>humane work<strong>in</strong>g conditions <strong>the</strong><br />
year before. They called it National<br />
Women's Day, and it took place on<br />
February 28. The follow<strong>in</strong>g year,<br />
Social International established<br />
Women's Day <strong>in</strong> Copenhagen<br />
to celebrate those work<strong>in</strong>g for<br />
women's rights and universal<br />
suffrage. Over <strong>the</strong> next few years,<br />
more countries <strong>in</strong> Europe marked<br />
<strong>the</strong> holiday on <strong>March</strong> 8. It wasn't<br />
until <strong>March</strong> 8, 1975, when, dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
International Women's Year, <strong>the</strong><br />
United Nations celebrated it as<br />
an official holiday. S<strong>in</strong>ce 1975, <strong>the</strong><br />
holiday has ga<strong>in</strong>ed awareness<br />
around <strong>the</strong> globe as a way to<br />
recognize women.<br />
The world is mov<strong>in</strong>g towards<br />
gender equality. It is mov<strong>in</strong>g<br />
towards a balance between<br />
both men and women. A<br />
change is required and is<br />
also essential. Women's Day<br />
focuses on celebrat<strong>in</strong>g women's<br />
accomplishments, promot<strong>in</strong>g<br />
awareness about gender equality,<br />
fight<strong>in</strong>g for faster gender parity, and<br />
rais<strong>in</strong>g funds for women's charities.<br />
The day is all about feel<strong>in</strong>g selfworth<br />
and achiev<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> goals as<br />
per <strong>the</strong> potential.<br />
