Wed 13th Highclere Castle - Downton Abbey - NEW DATE!! Set in over 1000 acres of stunning 18th century parkland designed by Capability Brown and home of the Earl of Carnarvon, Highclere has been described as the finest Victorian House in existence and now, is the home of Downton Abbey. The castle has a magnificent library and drawing room with the highlight being The Saloon with its 50ft vaulted ceilings. Outside, you can explore the beautiful gardens and parkland. Tearoom on site & café for lunch - alternatively you may like to bring food for lunch. Very limited places. Please note - this does not include entrance to the Egyptian Exhibition. Only £41.50 Wed 13th Athelhampton House & Gardens New Date Located in rural Dorset, Athelhampton is one of the finest 15th Century Manor Houses in the country and is surrounded by a splendid Arts & Crafts garden with it’s famous pyramid shaped yew trees. The house contains many finely furnished rooms including The Great Hall, Great Chamber, wine cellar. The grade I listed garden, dating from c1891, is full of vistas and gains much from the fountains and River Piddle flowing through. The walled gardens include roses, magnolias, clematis and lilies and also a 15th Century dovecot and boardwalk along the banks of the River Piddle. Around the town there are beautiful gardens where you can relax a while, leisurely walks and a delightful level Esplanade with views along the coastline. There are some excellent friendly independent shops in Sidmouth, and a range of cafes, restaurants and pubs. The delightful regency architecture adds to the unique atmosphere of this lovely town - a gem. Marble Arch is on Hyde Park at the end of Oxford Street, where there is some of the best shopping in the country but there is so much more. On the opposite edge of Hyde Park is Kensington Palace, whilst nearby is the Royal Albert Hall and the many excellent Museums in Knightsbridge including the Science and Natural History. Further afield is Portobello Road or you could head down to The Thames. So much to do! Sheltered beneath the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills, it combines a wealth of historic interest and beautiful architecture. Wells qualifies as England's smallest, and Somerset's only city because of its amazing 12th century Cathedral. The wells, which gave the city its name, are located within the grounds of the Bishop's Palace, which is still the residence of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Also of interest are medieval Vicars' Close and the historic market place. Only £22.50 Wed 20th Winchester Winchester has so much to offer the visitor and has become a firm favourite with our customers for a relaxing day out - enjoying the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the city. Discover England's ancient Capital and former seat of King Alfred the Great. The city is packed with historic buildings and museums including the 11th Century Cathedral combined with tranquil green spaces and an array of interesting independent shops. Thu 21st Windsor River Cruise with delicious Ploughman's lunch OR Windsor Only After leaving Windsor Promenade at 11.00am we enjoy excellent views of Windsor Castle and Eton College. After passing Windsor racecourse, the boat goes through Boveney Lock and passes Sutherland Grange, The Willows and Bray Film Studios. Only £22.50 Tue 26th Forde Abbey & Gardens, Somerset This superb former Medieval Abbey was founded by Cistercian Monks in 1140 and became one of the richest monasteries in the country. Set in the lovely Somerset countryside, the house is surrounded by 30 acres of award winning gardens described by Alan Titchmarsh as 'One of the great gardens in the West Country'. See the impressive Centenary Fountain, at 160ft the highest powered fountain in England. Inside you can discover the lives of monks in the fascinating Monastic Rooms. Only £34.50 Tue 26th Horse Drawn Canal Boat & Marlborough Step back in time with us, as we head first to one of our favourite stopping places, Marlborough. This archetypal English Market town has that 'film location' quality and is a great spot to stroll around and enjoy a nice lunch. In the afternoon we head to nearby Kintbury and board the 'Kennet Valley' horse drawn barge for a 2 ½ hour cruise along the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal. This wide beam passenger boat was purpose built for carrying passengers. Facilities onboard include a well stocked bar serving tea, coffee, soft drinks and beverages.
