AIA LA 2X8

Exhibit design and construction - Los Angeles CA

January 2019 - May 2019

Each year, the AIA holds 2x8, a design showcase that originally

provided the opportunity for 2 projects from 8 architecture

schools across California to win some scholarship money from

various sponsors. In addition to this, a design competition is

opened to the public where designs for the exhibit itself are

submitted and a winner is chosen to be built for the final show.

Our team of Jonathan Sharp, Christopher Locke, Matthew

Young, Marisa Keckeisen, and myself designed and built an

exhibit that was a forward-thinking take on the traditional gallery

setting. Our design was a winding art gallery around clustered

nodes of engagement. It elegantly performed it’s function

as an art gallery, but one night could host a VR watch party,

while the next night it may accommodate the next Culver City

Neighborhood Council Meeting. When all was said and done,

the cardboard tubes found new homes at local schools and in

artists studios.
