This Directory is your guide to locating food grown, raised <strong>and</strong> processed in our region. Whether you are an area resident who wishes to eat close to home, a processor who wants to source more local ingredients, a restaurateur who wishes to feature the bounty of the Central Kootenay on your menu, a tourist who wants to sample local fare, or a farmer who wants to know what the market opportunities are, this Directory is for you. Among the nooks <strong>and</strong> crannies of the Central Kootenay is a diversity of farms, big <strong>and</strong> small, as well as numerous processors. From cherries to potatoes, from tofu to charcuterie When you buy local food you are: About the CKFPC The mission of the Central Kootenay <strong>Food</strong> Policy Council is to build a just, sustainable <strong>and</strong> prosperous food system in our region by identifying challenges <strong>and</strong> opportunities <strong>and</strong> by advocating for effective policy. The Council was formed in 2016 with the vision of catalyzing the work already underway on food systems in the region by consistently linking people <strong>and</strong> projects across the region. We focus on education <strong>and</strong> policy in order Welcome to the Central Kootenay <strong>Farm</strong> & <strong>Food</strong> Directory! <strong>and</strong> cannabis, our region benefits from a host of dedicated, passionate <strong>and</strong> creative entrepreneurs who contribute the fruits of their labour to our tables. Explore the offerings in the different areas of the Central Kootenay or narrow in on a few favourite products <strong>and</strong> find out who has them <strong>and</strong> where they are located. The Directory also allows those so inclined to seek out <strong>and</strong> support businesses owned by Indigenous, Black, other People of Colour, Queer <strong>and</strong> Youth entrepreneurs. Each business entry includes information on when <strong>and</strong> where their products are available <strong>and</strong> how to contact them. The map on the centre pages will inspire you to explore the wide range of • getting fresh, tasty, nutritious food; • helping to keep family farms <strong>and</strong> processors in business; • preserving our rural l<strong>and</strong>scape; • supporting ecological diversity; <strong>and</strong> • helping to build a resilient food economy in our own region. to support <strong>and</strong> to not be in competition with the good work of our members. Our Council members represent communities, farms <strong>and</strong> food businesses, non-profits, <strong>and</strong> local governments in the Central Kootenay. This enables an ongoing two-way flow of information that guides our work <strong>and</strong> helps to determine our priorities.
