Pursuit of Passion
At the age of 20, Mr. Lee began his first
business. Due to a lack of experience and
funds, the venture failed within half a
year. Undaunted, Lee sought to improve
his business skills, and three years later,
he started his second business. That startup
also failed and incurred a large debt,
but Mr. Lee was undeterred. Instead, he
pivoted his direction and moved into the
health and beauty industry.
His new career in health and beauty took
off, and he was able to pay off his debts
within three years. He was also promoted
to business development director and was
instrumental in helping his company get
listed in the stock market. While his career
was thriving, he still dreamed of having
his own business. After his resignation,
Lee attempted his third business start-up
– ZINNIA GLOBAL Sdn. Bhd.
Tough Beginnings
Starting a business is just the first step.
When it comes to taking it all the way
to the top, it is no easy feat. For Mr. Lee,
he carried on with tenacity, leveraging
the experience and insight he had
gained from his past business failures
to guide him.
The biggest obstacle for ZINNIA was
during the early stages of the business
when the company encountered
problems with suppliers, resulting in
continuous loss for 30 consecutive
months. At this time, many senior
executives willingly reduced their salaries
or worked without pay because of their
strong belief in the company. One staff,
in particular, played a pivotal role in these
difficult times.
When Lee wanted to give up, she
reminded him: “If you haven’t reached
the “Mother River”, don’t give up!” This
sentence had a profound effect on him,
to which he firmly replied, “Even if I reach
the “Mother River”, I will also not give
up!” Inspired by Mr. Lee’s fierce
determination, his team followed suit
and worked hard to achieve success.
All the sweat and tears paid off
handsomely. Today, ZINNIA is a wellknown
