Come To Me Without A Word
4 February – 20 March 2021
Anita Johnson Larkin
This first exhibition for the year set the tone for 2021, beginning a dialogue
about the important role objects play in our lives, a conversation that featured
throughout this year’s program.
Anita Johnson Larkin is a NSW artist who works in sculpture and textiles. For this
exhibition she considered objects as storytellers - salvaged domestic objects
were re-associated with the human body and gestures of repair give those
objects poetic qualities. The strong focus on sculpture using found objects and
the emotional nature of this exhibition made it unique within the 2021 program.
First exhibited at Wollongong Art Gallery and selected by ADC Director Lisa Cahill
to be shown at the ADC, this exhibition established strong cross-institutional
relationships, strengthening industry support and a spirit of sharing.
Audiences were moved by Larkin’s emotive textile objects, and their relationship
with bodies and space. Associated events included a musical performance, online
conversations and a mini documentary.
