Design 101

Wednesday evenings 6pm-8pm
This six-week public lecture series explored the history of design through a
carefully curated set of weekly learning experiences. Devised by ADC Director Lisa
Cahill and Kathryn Hunyor (Arts People) the audience was introduced to each
design style via a keynote speaker, a contemporary designer and a participatory
panel discussion. It was an extremely popular series demonstrating the thirst for
life-long learning experiences.

What is Design?, writer and curator David Clark and industrial designer Adam
Goodrum. The Arts and Craft Movement, Dr Peter McNeil and designer Rina
Bernabei. The Bauhaus, Annalisa Capurro and architect Rob Brown. Japanese
Design, designer Eloise Rapp and Yukino Matsumoto of ‘Simply Native Japan’.
Scandinavian Design, Dr Mark Ian Jones, and interior designer Anna-Carin
McNamara. Indigenous Design: Building on Country, Walbanga and Wadi Wadi
designer and writer Alison Page.
Fashion and the Future of the Planet

This event was held in association with the Fashion Futures exhibition with Kerry
Brack, Sally Jackson, Joshua Saacks and Donna Sgro. Hosted by Frida Las Vegas,
this panel discussion focused on fashion’s connection to sustainability, social
justice and wellbeing.
Sydney Craft Week Mid-Year Special Event
15 May 2021
To celebrate the call for entries for Sydney Craft Week, ADC hosted an all-day
event at the gallery where the public could experience firsthand the craft courses
available in Sydney.
Participants: The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre, The Bench, MakerSpace and
Co, SquarePeg Studio and ATASDA.
The Law for Designers
19 August 2021
Presented during Workshopped 21 in partnership with Arts Law and supported
by the City of Sydney, this two-hour webinar introduced our online designers to
copyright and design law.
Creative First Aid Workshops
September 2021
In collaboration with MakeShift, ADC offered digital making workshops focused on
mental health and self-care.
