How the IFOY test became an audit
Anyone who wants to create an award should first of
all write down the statutes. They answer all the questions.
When writing down the IFOY statutes, the focus
lay on two things: testing and innovation.
Since 2013, all finalists must undergo the IFOY test.
Hundreds of tests and test reports have been delivered
by IFOY chief tester Theo Egberts to date. He
measures the hard facts: load capacities, fuel consumption,
speeds. The test report, which is sometimes
also called the impression, judges in addition
what cannot be measured in a standardised way.
Since 2022, MM specialist editor and IFOY judge Bernd
Maienschein is responsible for the test reports in the
non-vehicle categories, including Robots, AGV/AMR,
software, warehouse solution, Special of the Year
and start-ups.
The test results are an important indicator for the jury
and extremely popular among trade magazine readers.
However, IFOY is an innovation award, and victory
is not a matter of whether a forklift consumes
two percent more or less energy. In order to be able
to assess the innovation value, a technology comparison
with the market standards is necessary. This is
the role of the scientific innovation check, which premiered
in 2014.
Scientists from Fraunhofer Institute IML and IPA, the
Technical University of Munich, the Technical University
of Hamburg-Harburg and the Technical University
of Dresden analyse the IFOY applications and compare
them with the state of the art. Based on visual
inspections and partly a functional test, the innovations
are comprehended at the IFOY TEST DAYS and
their function is verified. During the evaluation, innovative
advancements as well as successful new
compositions and genuine innovations are identified
and judged. The final decision is made by the jury.
The Best-in-Intralogistics Certificate:
In order to document the high degree of innovation
and the technical quality of the finalists who have
successfully completed the IFOY Test procedure
even more clearly, the Best-in-Intralogistics Certificate
was being introduced in 2018. Only those who
receive the „Best in Intralogistics“ certificate have
passed the IFOY Audit and undergone the toughest
intralogistics test in the world. It is the visible sign
of innovation.

“The IFOY AWARD runs in sneakers,“ someone once stated. Change is part
of the programme and the right footwear, as we all know, ensures mobility.
The TEST DAYS take place in Hanover, Osnabrück, Munich and Dortmund, the
award ceremonies in Munich, Hanover, Dortmund and Vienna. Nothing is set
in stone, everything must follow one goal: To showcase the performance and
innovative power of the Intralogistics industry worldwide.
That is why over ten years not a single stone has been left unturned, with one
exception: the focus on innovation was, is and will remain the DNA of the IFOY
