SCHOOLS OUT!

….... a word from our President
Hope everyone is doing well. Our membership continues to grow. It is always fun
meeting new Corvette owners and getting to know them. They bring new perspectives
and fresh ideas for runs and events. Let's all go out of our way to get to know them.
Really sorry I missed the Madera Speedway run. Going to the hard top races at Kearney
Bowl in SW Fresno during the 1960's was my first taste of racing. Even though I was
very young, I have fond memories of those races. It was quite a spectacle watching Al
Pombo, Marshall Sargent, Dick Thompson and others battle it out on the track.
As I write this, the progressive dinner is coming up. The effort to organize and carry out
an event such as this is greatly appreciated! Several new runs have been added to the
calendar recently. I want to thank everyone who puts in the work to make Central Valley
Corvettes a success. As I look back at the history of the club, there are many members
who stand out. I don't want to list names, since I'm sure to miss some. Thank you all
very much for your hard work. You have done a lot more to help the club than I'll ever
be able to do.
Finally, if you have anything to discuss, but don't want to do it at the regular meetings,
you're welcome to attend a Board Meeting. Any member can attend a board meeting.
The board members were elected by and work for the members. Just let me know in
advance what you want to discuss at the meeting.
See you on our next run.
Your President,
Jeff

CENTRAL VALLEY CORVETTES
ACTIVITIES CALENDAR
JUNE 2022
Boy! It got not warm but hot fast on May 14 at the Madera Speedway Vukovich Classic.
Despite the heat (our C5 had no air conditioning) it was a great day. The roar of the
engines, the squeal of the tires and holding your breath waiting for the impending sound
of the crash. As we made our laps around the track in our corvettes and as I passed the
race cars, I noticed that the Hard Tops had not changed much since building them in
the ‘70’s. There were 12 cars from Central Valley Corvettes and 8 cars from COF.
On May 21, the Progressive Dinner started with salad bar at the home of David and
Julie Sons that rivaled any salad bar we have ever been to. Pictures were taken upon
arrival by Julie’s daughter and were presented to each couple at our last stop. We
moved on to Gary and Pam Linsner’s home for a delicious Mediterranean meal.
Refreshing drinks made by their son Michael a professional skilled in food and drink
service came down from San Francisco to help out and ensure their success. Then it
was on to Lori Dukes for some scrumptious desserts and great music, a little dancing,
and a lot of fun. Thank you to our hosts and all the participates.
We have some runs coming up in June that look to be a fun time. Check the listing
below and flyers in the Newsletter and sign up at the June meeting to join the fun.
Tuesday, October 11 th thru Friday, 14 th
taxes.
Contact Jeff Engelman for more info
Currently there is a 20 car limit but I can
look into booking addiZonal rooms if there
is more interest.
The Spanish term La Veta Madre (The Mother Load) refers to
a rich vein of gold that included the region from Mariposa to
Downieville. In 1848 James Marshall discovered gold along
the American River, and the race for riches was on. We will
be spending three nights along State Route 49, the main
route linking gold country towns and visit landmarks,
museums, and other desKnaKons.
Many of the original mining towns
described by historians have vanished
and landmarks become fewer each
year as Kme, fires, and progress take
their toll. Plan to see it before it's gone

Madera Speedway Run

PROGRESSIVE DINNER OVERVIEW
A BIG THANK YOU to my hubby for checking off all the important
‘honey-do’s’ I put on his list. Gary told me Pam had a long list for
him as well so I’m glad they were brothers in the same boat.
I was so grateful that the weatherman predicated cooler
weather and it was a beautiful day with a high of only 88. That
certainly beats the 100-degree weather I’m sure we will start
getting very soon.
Even though it took a long time to prepare for this event it was
very rewarding and I hope everyone had a great time.
If for some reason you left hungry I don’t think we were at the
same party. We had a blast and I do hope others will volunteer
to host it next year. I’d love to see this event continue as an
annual event like it used to be.
We began at our house (Sons’) where we bellied up to an
enormous salad bar and enjoyed shrimp cocktails and
appetizers. I even that Mike Lebda and David found something
they could possibly enjoy to eat. My daughter Jen can over and
she took pictures of everyone as they arrived. Later I had them
1-hour developed and handed them out at the 3 rd stop. We
played human poker and everyone picked a random playing
card when they arrived. As people mingled they were able to
find the highest poker hand. The winners were (Keith, Patrick,
LeighAnn, Rachael & Gail) with a Straight Flush.
After an hour or so everyone started to their Vehicles to follow
Gary to the next stop. However, I think Gary must have thought
he was still in Nevada on his road race because he was gone in
a flash and not much time to catch up. *Note to Gary….. On a
lead run our club members follow more at a 30 MPH pace not

120! Nonetheless Pam had a map available with directions to
their house. While at the Linsner’s everyone enjoyed a catered
meal of Mediterranean chicken, pilaf and vegetable medley
with humus and bread. Pam was such a thoughtful host and
also prepared spritzers for those who might be parched or in
need of refreshing. She did a phenomenal job of keeping
everyone on track and was able to scoot everyone out the door
in time to get to our third stop. Her son Michael was at their
house and he did much of the cleanup so they were able to
head out the door to the final stop.
Lori Duke has such a beautiful yard (I wonder who does her
lawn) and there we enjoyed a cool evening under the stars
listening to some great music by Two-Man Crew. Not only did
everyone enjoy a variety of desserts and Margarita’s, (like if
anyone was still hungry) the music and dancing continued on
until about 9:30.
A great big thanks to everyone who helped with cleanup and
everything in between. CVC members you ROCK!
