Rise Gymnastics has three phases:
1. Discover
Aimed at preschool children, phase
one delivers gymnastics through
imaginative play. Themed sessions
include jungle antics, dinosaurs
and ‘people that help us’, and
develop key life skills and physical
movement at an early age. The
activities within the Discover phase
have been carefully created to mirror
the approach of learning within an
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
environment. Children can earn
rewards as they progress through the
exciting themed activities.
2. Explore
The second phase gives children
a platform to develop their skills,
regardless of ability and experience. A
flexible award scheme gives children
the opportunity to progress and
achieve. This phase will help children
determine their level of passion for
the sport.
3. Excel
The third and final phase is aimed
at advanced and ambitious
recreational gymnasts. These more
structured sessions lead to festivals,
competitions and discipline-specific
pathways. Skills are nurtured
naturally rather than through a focus
on awards, enabling gymnasts to
achieve at their own pace.
Gemma Barton, Head of Participation
at British Gymnastics, said: “We are
extremely passionate about this
innovative new approach. It is our
ambition that Rise Gymnastics will
give every gymnast the opportunity
to shine, and our partnership with
Premier Education is key in delivering
positive experiences to as many
children as possible.”
Rise Gymnastics is available to
UK primary schools hoping to
improve their sporting offering and
gymnastics provision within their
setting. For more information visit
Norfolk pupils spring
into new gymnastics
class!
As a school with a focus on
promoting healthy lifestyles,
there was always plenty of
enrichment and extra-curricular
activities on offer for students
of Sparhawk Infant and Nursery
School in Sprowston, Norfolk.
Yet when the opportunity
arose to offer pupils the
new, expert-led gymnastics
programme developed by
British Gymnastics, the school
launched a Friday after-school
gymnastics club, which
quickly became one of the
most popular additions to the
calendar.
Clare Campbell, Headteacher
at Sparhawk Infant and Nursery
School, commented: “The fact
that I have a Friday after-school
club that’s fully subscribed
demonstrates the popularity of
Rise Gymnastics!
“I think people are nervous
of offering a subject like
gymnastics because it’s quite
skills-based, but you have
to think about the wellbeing
aspect for the children – they
learn foundational skills and
keep active in a fun and
inclusive way.
“The staff at Premier Education
are excellent and thanks to
them the children love it, the
parents love it and I like that we
are able to bring professionals
in to widen the children’s skills
base.”
Rise Gymnastics lessons are
tailored to suit different age
groups. Pupils like those from
Sparhawk are working on
early movement, balance and
co-ordination skills as well as
learning through imaginative
themed sessions.
