Golden Slipper winner Stratum embodies our philosophy in stallion selection and has 

justified our faith in him at every turn. Champion First and Second Season Sire as well 

as Champion Sire of Two Year Olds in 2009/2010, Stratum has sired 11 stakes-winners 

from his first three crops led by Group I ATC Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily and 

Group I ATC Australian Oaks and Flight Stakes winner Streama. 

Snippetson is widely regarded as Australia’s best value sire with seven new stakes 

horses in the last six months and his progeny are described by trainers as “they’re 

tough, good looking and can run”. His stakewinners include Fast Clip, That’s The One 

and Nobby Snip. 

Set to follow in the footsteps of Stratum are Sebring and Northern Meteor, whose first 

progeny sold at the yearling sales this year providing a fantastic return for our many 

loyal clients. The progeny of Golden Slipper winner Sebring were snapped up by all the 

best judges with 49 of his offspring selling for $100,000 or more with the top seller being 

a colt from Valda Merceda that made $450,000 at Magic Millions. There was also great 

interest from buyers for record breaking Group I winning sprinter Northern Meteor, who 

had 27 yearlings sell for upwards of $100,000 with the highest priced being a colt from 

Listen Here that made $440,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. 

Our other young stallions Nicconi, Dreamscape, Star Witness and Tickets are all 

progressing through the early stages of their stud careers with Nicconi and Dreamscape 

set to have yearlings at the sales in 2013 and Star Witness and Tickets will have their 

first foals on the ground this spring.

cross with Snippets mares. CRYSTAL LILY and the 

Champion Black Caviar both carry a duplication of Vain

Out of a Luskin Star mare, Stratum is ideally-bred to cross 

with mares from the Sir Tristram line and has sired dual 

Gr1 winner STREAMA out of a mare by Sire Tristram’s son 

SOVEREIGN RED. 

From a Star Kingdom line mare, Stratum is likely to 

work when crossed back over that line. Sources include 

Biscay through Bletchingly, Canny Lad, Hurricane 

Sky; and Marscay (the dam sire of Stratum’s Debutante

of sire lines but his results with Northern Dancer are remarkable. 

Sebring should be suited by Northern Dancer through Nijinsky

and Bluebird), Be My Guest, Sadler’s Wells (including Scenic),

Sebring is out of a mare by Danehill’s Golden Slipper winning son 

Flying Spur, and inbreeding Northern Dancer, has enjoyed phenomenal

Champion Sires Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev, Fairy King (sire of 

Encosta de Lago) and Stormy Atlantic. 

Encosta de Lago has enjoyed tremendous success with mares 

descending from Sir Tristram, siring stakes winners from 

daughters of Zabeel (who brings in Nureyev, from Northern 

Metetor’s own family, and is the sire of Octagonal and his 

son Lonhro), Sovereign Red, and Marauding. 

Encosta de Lago has also enjoyed success with mares 

descending from that other great domestic strain, Star 

Kingdom, through Bletchingly (including Group One 

winners out of mares by Canny Lad and Kenny’s Best 

Pal) and Marscay. 

Although he is a Northern Dancer line sire, Encosta de 

Lago has enjoyed success when crossed back over mares from 

that sire line. Broodmare sires that have enjoyed success under 

Encosta de Lago include Last Tycoon, Alzao, Be My 

Guest, and Caerleon (by Nijinsky II). 

Northern Meteor is a half-brother to the talented Queen

Star Witness firmly established himself as one of the fastest 

horses of his generation. Winner of his first three starts 

at two, including a brilliant win in the Blue Diamond 

Stakes, he added the sire-making Ascot Vale Stakes at three. 

From the first crop of World Champion Starcraft, Star 

Witness is out of Leone Chiara, a group stakes winning 

granddaughter of Danehill, who is herself a sister to two 

other group winners. 

Star Witness is from the Nureyev male line, via classic 

winner, and Champion Sprinter Soviet Star, but his pedigree 

suggests that he may forge his own course rather than 

merely reflecting his sire line.

The cross of Star Witness over mares descending from 

Sir Tristram, appears to have good potential. Particularly 

interesting for Star Witness are mares by Zabeel, Kaapstad, 

and Octagonal (sire of Lonhro), who give a strong 

reinforcement of the pedigree of Soviet Star. 

Star Witness has three crosses of Northern Dancer, 

but those strains will be in the fifth and sixth generations 

of his foals, and Star Witness may well emulate his sire and 

grandsire by crossing well over Northern Dancer line mares. 

Obvious targets will include the three-parts-brothers to 

Star Witness’s male-line ancestor Nureyev, Sadler’s Wells, 

Fairy King and Perugino (all, like Nureyev, from the 

powerful family of Rough Shod II/Thong). Sadler’s 

Wells sources include Galileo, Montjeu, Barathea 

and Scenic. Fairy King can be introduced through his 

Champion Sire son Encosta de Lago. 

The Nijinsky II strain also looks to have merit with 

Star Witness and could be introduced through Royal 

Academy; Yeats (a close relative to Nureyev); Caerleon 

(sire of Generous, Alquoz, Bletchley Park and Tenby), 

Tights, Western Symphony and Kala Dancer. 

Star Witness does carry Danehill, but that strain will 

be back in the fourth generation of his foals and coming 

via his dam. A duplication of Danehill could be particularly 

interesting, especially through mares by Redoute’s Choice 

(a genetic relative to the dam of Star Witness), also through 

Flying Spur, Danehill Dancer (sire of Choisir), 

Commands and Danewin.

An outstanding sprinter, Nicconi gained group one 

victories in The Galaxy and the Lightning Stakes in 

brilliant fashion. He is by a beautifully-bred Champion 

Sprinting son of Danzig, out of a multiple group one 

producing mare. 

Nicconi’s sire, Bianconi, has sired the group one winning 

Above Deck out of a mare by At Talaq, and group two 

winner Schilling, out of a mare by Prized, both from 

the Roberto line. This suggests trying mares by Red 

Ransom (his sons), and Brocco. This is a branch of the 

Hail to Reason/Turn-to line. The Halo branch of 

Hail to Reason has also enjoyed success under Danzig, 

and could be sourced via Don’t Say Halo, Fuji Kiseki 

and More Than Ready. The Danzig cross with mares 

descending from Sir Tristram (a grandson of Turnto) 

has done well, and Bianconi is the sire of group 

two winner Mr Martini out of a mare by Sir Tristram 

son, Marauding. Sir Tristram might also be brought in 

through Military Plume (from the same, Froth, family 

as Nicconi), El Qahira, Grosvenor, Kaapstad, and

worked with Snippetson with group performers MISTER MILTON & 

SNIP N DUCK), and his three-parts-brothers Sadler’s Wells (sire of

Even though Redoute’s Choice is a Northern Dancer line horse, he 

has done well over Northern Dancer line mares. He has two stakes 

winners out of a daughter and grand daughter of El Gran Senor and 

six stakes winners out of mares by Last Tycoon. Tickets has a double 

of Nijinsky II a strain that has done well under Redoute’s Choice,

Power, Lucky Owners is a horse with an intriguing 

pedigree. He is out of a mare who is from the 

immediate family of Sir Tristram, and who is 

linebred to both the female line of Sir Tristram and 

Round Table. 

Lucky Owners has established himself a sire of 

top class horses of the ilk of Champion NZ 2yo 

The Heckler and Gr 2 winning, Group 1 paced 

MASQUERADER. The likes of group winner THE

A multiple stakes winning sprinter from a powerful branch of the 

Danehill sire line, Dreamscape is from the immediate family of 

Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev and Fairy King (sire of Encosta de Lago). 

This is also the family of Widden barn mate, Group 1 winning, track 

record holder Northern Meteor. 

We can note that Dreamscape’s grandam, Handsewn, is half-sister 

to champion Thatch, and that Dreamscape’s sire, Choisir, has already 

sired a Group 2 winner Stimulation out of a mare by Thatching 

(by Thatch), and a stakes winner Sara’s Choice out of mare by 

Thatching’s son, Puissance. 

Danehill line stallions have enjoyed considerable success with mares 

descending from Sadler’s Wells (from the same sire line and female line as 

the dam of Dreamscape). Among sons of Sadler’s Wells are Scenic (sire 

of Blevic), Galileo, Montjeu, High Chaparral, Barathea (who 

looks particularly good), Carnegie, and King of Kings (another 

particularly good fit on pedigree). Singspiel is a grandson of Sadler’s 

Wells who could work here. Fairy King the brother to Sadler’s 

Wells is sire of Encosta de Lago and Helissio. 

Although he is a Northern Dancer line stallion, Choisir has done 

well when bred back over a number of branches of the Northern 

Dancer line. He has sired Group winner Hurried Choice out of 

a mare by Catrail, by Storm Cat, which suggests trying other sons 

of that horse, such as Hennessy, Tale of the Cat and Giant’s 

Causeway. Storm Bird, the sire of Storm Cat might be good here 

through Bluebird. He also has stakes winners out of mares by Alzao 

and Night Shift. In addition, Choisir has already sired a Group winner 

(Psychologist) out of a mare by Danzero, from his own Danehill 

line. 

Like many Danehill line stallions Choisir has met with success when 

crossed with the sire line of Sir Tristram (Sacred Choice), including 

through Zabeel (Champagne Harmony) (bringing in Nureyev). 

Other sources of Sir Tristram include Zabeel’s grand-son Lonhro. 

Out of mares from the Star Kingdom line, Choisir has stakes 

winners descending from Bletchingly, out of daughters of Star
