Nicks An outstanding sprinter, Nicconi gained group one victories in The Galaxy and the Lightning Stakes in brilliant fashion. He is by a beautifully-bred Champion Sprinting son of Danzig, out of a multiple group one producing mare. Nicconi’s sire, Bianconi, has sired the group one winning Above Deck out of a mare by At Talaq, and group two winner Schilling, out of a mare by Prized, both from the Roberto line. This suggests trying mares by Red Ransom (his sons), and Brocco. This is a branch of the Hail to Reason/Turn-to line. The Halo branch of Hail to Reason has also enjoyed success under Danzig, and could be sourced via Don’t Say Halo, Fuji Kiseki and More Than Ready. The Danzig cross with mares descending from Sir Tristram (a grandson of Turnto) has done well, and Bianconi is the sire of group two winner Mr Martini out of a mare by Sir Tristram son, Marauding. Sir Tristram might also be brought in through Military Plume (from the same, Froth, family as Nicconi), El Qahira, Grosvenor, Kaapstad, and Zabeel (his son, Octagonal and grandson, Lonhro). From the Mr. Prospector line, Bianconi has stakes winners out of mares by Woodman. Mr. Prospector might be introduced through Geiger Counter and Jade Robbery (doubling the Thong family), Miswaki (including Umatilla), Thunder Gulch, Elusive Quality, Seeking the Gold (via Secret Savings and Lujain) and Street Cry. Bianconi has been quick to establish an affinity for mares from some branches of his own Northern Dancer sire line. In particular Nijinsky II, who might also be good here through Royal Academy, Whiskey Road, Bletchley Park, Last Tycoon and Western Symphony. Crossing Bianconi with mares by Encosta de Lago or Falbrav and Helissio, would give inbreeding to the brothers Sadler’s Wells and Fairy King. Inbreeding to Sadler’s Wells and his three-parts-brother Nureyev, might be achieved through mares by Peintre Celebre, Spinning World and Stravinsky. In addition to doubling the Thong family through Yeats, Nureyev and Fairy King, we can duplicate this female line via Thatch, who can be found through Archway, Rustic Amber and Sequalo. Bianconi is out of the great race mare and producer Fall Aspen which I would recommend duplicating. As Nicconi’s broodmare sire, Scenic, comes from the great family of Where You Lead, and she can be introduced through Rainbow Quest.
