Department<br />

Established in 1970, the Women and<br />

Family Department aims to empower<br />

women in the community. The various<br />

programmes are designed to support<br />

and inspire all women to better serve<br />

themselves, their family and the<br />

community.<br />

Objectives of the Women and<br />

Family Department are :<br />

i. To promote physical,<br />

intellectual, emotional and<br />

social (PIES) well- being<br />

of women<br />

ii. To strengthen family<br />

cohesiveness<br />

iii. To harness partnerships with<br />

global organisations, focusing<br />

on women and family matters<br />

informal sharing<br />

sessions between<br />

finalists of the<br />

Exemplary Mother<br />

Award and women<br />

leaders.<br />

‘Women In<br />

‘Being Mothers: The<br />

Challenges, The Way<br />

Forward.’<br />

Exemplary Mother Award (EMA)<br />

<strong>Jamiyah</strong> <strong>Singapore</strong>’s<br />

signature event is the<br />

annual Exemplary<br />

Mother Award (EMA).<br />

Launched in 1993 with the<br />

Presidential Shield from<br />

the late President Wee Kim<br />

Wee, the prestigious event recognises and<br />

celebrates the sacrifices, determination,<br />

and resilience of Mothers in overcoming<br />

life's many challenges. It honours Mothers<br />

from all walks of life, and across all races<br />

and religions who have made an impact in<br />

the lives of their family members and the<br />

community.<br />

Department<br />

Baking Workshop with Chef Siti Mastura<br />

Mental Health Talk titled 'Healthy Mind Stress Free<br />

Life', a collaboration between <strong>Jamiyah</strong> <strong>Singapore</strong>’s<br />

Women & Family Department and Putra Specialist<br />

Hospital, Melaka. The 3-part virtual talk show<br />

addressed some of the factors that contribute to the<br />

mental stress especially amongst women as they<br />

execute their multitude roles.<br />

In 2018, <strong>Jamiyah</strong> introduced a new<br />

category – the Exemplary Young Mother<br />

Award – to showcase the entrepreneurial<br />

spirit, hard work, and determination<br />

of young mothers, as well as their<br />

contributions to society.<br />
