62SHOW REVIEWTHAIFEX – Anuga Asia 2022concludes with trends in the foodand beverage industry revealedThis year’s THAIFEX – Anuga Asia welcomedover 51,535 trade visitors, both local andinternational, from 111 countries between24-28 May, at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.Mathias Kuepper, managing director ofKoelnmesse, said: "As a globally acclaimedfood and beverage tradeshow, THAIFEX– Anuga Asia purposefully solves someof these challenges by providing aplatform for creating new enterprisesto bring their goods to market, boostingtheir brand and market exposure."The hybrid event format received buildup,remote connections, and engagementfrom show-goers. Exhibitors, visitors, andbuyers also met face-to-face as the industrymoves forward towards innovation.The 2022 "restart" brought 1,603 exhibitorsacross nine halls of exhibition spaceat IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, whichis more than double the number ofexhibitors present for the last event in2020. Despite travel regulations affectingparticipants from some countries, theevent attracted 6,898 international tradevisitors, especially from Malaysia, Vietnam,Singapore, South Korea and India.Visitor, Qurrata Ayuni, from Indonesia,said: "THAIFEX - Anuga Asia took me onan exciting journey into food innovation.I particularly enjoyed exploring some of theupcoming trends in food that we're likely tosee more of in the future, and it's been sonice to visit in person, talk to the exhibitorsand see their products with my own eyes."THAIFEX - Anuga Asia 2022 has alsorevealed leading and emerging trendsfollowing the show:• Halal food: All regions have recorded agrowing trend of halal product launchesin the past five years. Halal also had thebiggest showcase at THAIFEX - AnugaAsia showcase with 386 exhibitors.• Sustainably produced and packaged food:In the five years ending 2021, launchesof food and beverage using upcycledingredients rose at a CAGR of 63%,compared with 20% for products usingrecycled materials, 46% for products withwater-saving claims, 30% for productscarrying carbon emissions claims and35% for palm oil-free products.• Clean labels: Around half of consumersglobally consider the absence of additivesand use of only natural ingredientsto be at the heart of "clean" eating,ahead of organics and sustainability.• Plant-based food: There is an annualgrowth of 46% (CAGR, 2018-2021) withfood and beverage launches with a plantbasedand premium and indulgent claim.• Alternative protein, including ediblebugs: Two-thirds of consumers globallystate that they eat meat substitutes,while almost a quarter (23%) consumethem at least once a day.THAIFEX – Anuga Asia 2022 was organisedby the Department of International TradePromotion, Ministry of Commerce,Thailand.
