Thursday June 30 2022 The Star Latest Canterbury news at starnews.co.nz LETTERS/OPINION 23 Driver ‘seconds too late’ to stop thief MY SUZUKI Liana was broken into through rear passenger window a few months ago at Mt Vernon track car park at top of Bowenvale Ave. We arrived at car from our walk a few seconds too late to stop a young woman smashing the window and taking my backpack from back seat. I took my wallet and phone on my walk, luckily. The woman ran to getaway car parked there and young man drove her away. I was in front of their car and got out of the way. We got number plate and car model (a Peugeot) and rang WHEN THE Christchurch Foundation was established to help philanthropic giving, it undertook a scan of our residents’ hopes and dreams for our city. When I say our residents, I mean Waimakariri and Selwyn District residents as well – Greater Christchurch. The purpose was to match the generosity of donors – corporate and personal – to those hopes and dreams to make us a vibrant place to live and visit, a place that cares for the environment police. They identified the car as stolen, but no one has been apprehended. Police say they’ve tried to contact the owner several times and got no response. Still hoping. I would love to get my artwork and prescription glasses and backpack back. – Hilaire Campbell I had my BMW broken into in my own driveway a couple of weeks ago. It has an immobiliser installed so the police thought the crims were frustrated they could not steal it, so they through kaitiakitanga, and one that creates and supports opportunities for residents of all ages and stages of life. I was thinking about this, as I went to a talk about Better City Business this week, a Mayor Lianne Dalziel proceeded to vandalise the rest of the car windows. Hope you get your karma back buddy. – Ben Blakemore Stormwater I have read with interest the Environment Canterbury suggestions of what we ought to do to be a ‘stormwater superhero’. Some years ago our mayor talked about the issue of copper-free brake pads. Surely both ECan and the city council have lobbied their body Local Government NZ and the government to ban brake pads new platform that enables local businesses to support the Foundation as it moves beyond the set-up phase we have supported through the city council. This is one of the innovative ways that the that have copper in them. If not, why not? The rest of it we can all take responsibility to do. – Bronwen Summers, Waltham Stadium The answer to the problem of building the stadium is to invite the Chinese Government to build it for us. No doubt it would be built very quickly on budget, no or very little cost to ratepayers and would be commercially viable. Users pay. – Ray O’Rourke, Casebrook foundation has adopted to make itself independent. I came away from the talk grateful that we had committed to doing so, and secondly, determined to visit Tīrama Mai this weekend. I am told that people literally poured into the city to see the lights last weekend, and they were still buzzing when I attended this talk. Everyone I spoke to about it couldn’t recommend it more.
