The Beacon was erected on the green
space by St Mary & All Saints Church in
the earlymorning on Thursday 2nd June
with the help of six people as it was quite
a weight! In the evening as the sun set,
preparations to light the Beacon began
with Diu Regnare performed on Bagpipes,
followed by a fanfare (Majesty) to herald
the lighting. Finally, Beaconsfield
Operatic Society serenaded the lighting
of the Beacon at 9:45pm with A Song for
the Commonwealth.
I am delighted to say that the electronic
ignition worked perfectly (phew!) and the
beacon lighting ceremony was enjoyed by
the hundreds that turned out.
A huge thank you to all those who
supported our event and attended to
make it one of the best celebrations in
the area.
