Our season is coming to a close. By June 1
the lab will be closed down for summer and
reopen as usual October 1. Jeff has been occasionally
cleaning the lab fl oor and my bulging lumbar
discs sure appreciate not having to do it myself. Due
to recent donations from Sharon Miller and Flo Monk
we have newer computers that makes three fairly new ones out of the four we always
seem to have. Everything seemed to stay up and running better this season than ever.
Francis Cormier and Sharon Miller volunteered their time to teach us more on cameras
with computers and Word. It was great to receive nicely organized folders with step by
step information from Sharon. This folder and books and other printed information, also
discs are available for lending to residents of Teakwood. Just see Marty or me or call.
Speaking of volunteers, the computer club owes many thanks to Aggie Moser for
heading up our fundraiser this winter. Not only was it her idea, but she made soup and
sandwiches and enlisted her sister and cousin and lots of folks who didn’t even belong to
computer club to help make the effort a huge success. About the only thing Marty and
I had to do was help serve (which folks seemed to really appreciate, not him but being
served) and I was mistress of ceremonies and we provided the majority of door prizes,
except for all the bottles of wine. There again, the wine was donated by a few residents
not members of the club! Ceil Turkington donated wine and sold our fi fty-fi fty tickets
and the Faddens donated wine along with Aggie, as if she wasn’t doing enough. Aggie’s
cousin, Kathy Huck, made a beautiful fl owered embroidery piece, which was raffl ed off
and proceeds donated to club. Unfortunately, I did not win it. The funds fi lled our coffi
ns for awhile to come. I know I haven’t mentioned all the helpers but goodness, club
members were on hand, we had our Teakwood karaoke singers who surprised everyone
present with their talent. We heard only favorable responses and some pleas to do it again.
Membership was back up this year with several new residents from Teakwood
East and West. We hope to continue doing well, trying to provide what we can for our
members and encouraging any residents who would like to do so to join us. Check out
our corner for information, numbers to call, etc. Find the lab in Tiki Hall East.
Marty is headed to Oregon in July on his new BMW motorcycle and we may go
to Vermont for a long weekend. Of course, we will be primarily spending time with
children and grandson and hoping to sell our last house in Virginia. A few other trips
and before you know it we will be back in Aloha visiting with our Teakwood friends.
Have a great summer! Everyone stay well, be active, stay cool.
