2011 Law Enforcement Torch Run Celebrates 25 Years<br />

Law enforcement personnel support <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong><br />

through their involvement with Law Enforcement Torch Run, the official<br />

charity of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The Law Enforcement<br />

Torch Run mission includes fundraising and increasing public<br />

awareness of <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong>. Polar Plunges, Cops on<br />

Freezin’ For A Reason<br />

A Polar Plunge occurred every Saturday in February 2011. Locations included Bartlesville at<br />

Two Sisters Pub Grill; Broken Arrow at Nienhuis Park; Durant at Choctaw Casino Oasis Pool;<br />

Lawton at Holiday Inn Express; McAlester at Gene Stipe Recreation Center; <strong>Oklahoma</strong> City at<br />

White Water Bay; Pauls Valley at Seth Wadley Ford Dealership; Stillwater at Boomer Lake;<br />

and Tahlequah at Arrowhead Resorts on the Illinois River..<br />

24 dips into freezing water equals some very dedicated Polar Plungers!<br />

This year’s Polar Plunges were kicked off by the Super Plunge at White Water Bay in <strong>Oklahoma</strong><br />

City. Nine Super Plungers took 24 icy dips once every hour to raise a minimum of<br />

$1,000 each for <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong>.<br />

Doughnut Shops and Tip-A-Cops are just a few of the hundreds of<br />

events where law enforcement personnel support the 9,500 <strong>Special</strong><br />

<strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> athletes. Congratulations and thank you <strong>Oklahoma</strong><br />

Law Enforcement Torch Run for celebrating 25 years of supporting <strong>Special</strong><br />

<strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> and raising $335,000 in 2011!<br />

<strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong><br />

at Krispy Kreme<br />

Doughnut Shops was<br />

held on June 18, 2011<br />

in <strong>Oklahoma</strong> City and<br />

Tulsa. More than<br />

$20,000 was raised for <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong>.<br />

From 7:00 a.m. until midnight, one law enforcement<br />

representative was camped out on the roof<br />

of Krispy Kreme locations in <strong>Oklahoma</strong> City and<br />

Tulsa. Other law enforcement personnel were present<br />

on the ground at each location to collect donations<br />

that go directly to fund <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong><br />

<strong>Oklahoma</strong>.<br />

More than twenty law enforcement agencies<br />

from around <strong>Oklahoma</strong> participated in this one-day<br />

event. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts provided incentives<br />

such as free doughnuts, coffee and T-shirts<br />

for donations to <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong>.<br />
