2011 SPECIAL OLYMPICS OKLAHOMA WINTER GAMES<br />

January 6–8, 2011<br />

More than 2,200 athletes competed at the 15th annual <strong>Special</strong><br />

<strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> Winter Games.<br />

Aquatics, January 6<br />

<strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> has traditionally held Aquatics competitions<br />

during Summer Games. In 2011, the Aquatics competition<br />

moved to Winter Games<br />

and was held at the <strong>Oklahoma</strong><br />

City Community<br />

College Aquatics facility<br />

in <strong>Oklahoma</strong> City. The<br />

new facility was able to<br />

accommodate the increasing<br />

number of<br />

<strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong><br />

athletes competing<br />

in Aquatics.<br />

Volleyball, Basketball and Bowling,<br />

January 7-8<br />

On January 7-8, Volleyball and Basketball competitions were<br />

held at the Huston Huffman Center on the campus of The<br />

University of <strong>Oklahoma</strong>. Bowling competitions were conducted<br />

at several bowling centers in Edmond, Moore and<br />

<strong>Oklahoma</strong> City. The Victory Celebration, Law Enforcement<br />

Torch Run Flame of Hope ceremony, Shipman Youth Volunteer Award presentation<br />

and, of course, the Dance were held at the Moore Community Center.<br />
