12 29th Annual St. Patrick’s 5K Run Designated Qualifying Run for 2011 Tulsa Run The 29th Annual St. Patrick’s 5K Run event on Saturday, March 12 in Brookside was selected as a qualifying run for the 2011 Tulsa Run. Runners who ran a qualifying time at the St. Patrick’s 5K were guaranteed a spot up front at the Tulsa Run 15K. The St. Patrick’s 5K Run began at 8:30 a.m. at 43rd and Peoria, Tulsa, Oklahoma. More than 2,600 runners competed in the 5K Run. Proceeds from the run benefit Special Olympics Oklahoma and Tulsa Running Club. Emcee Julie Chin, KJRH Meteorologist, presided over the costume contest, ran with the Special Olympics Oklahoma athletes AND ran in the 5K. In addition to the St. Patrick’s 5K, a prize was given for the best costume and the kids had a good time playing on the inflatables. We looked for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, instead we found a whole lot of good, healthy fun! More than $44,000 was raised for Special Olympics Oklahoma and Tulsa Running Club. Sonic Drive-Ins Sonic Drive Ins continued the Wacky Pack promotion in May benefiting Special Olympics Oklahoma. Since 2005, Special Olympics has received donations in excess of $400,000 from Sonic Drive-Ins. JERSEY NIGHT AT THE BARONS GAME Oklahoma City, March 4, 2011 More than $7,120 was raised for Special Olympics Oklahoma at the Post Game Jersey auction.
Coaches Training Opportunities OU Coach Bob Stoops and the OU Sooners take time from an August practice to meet Special Olympics Oklahoma athletes and sign autographs. Special Olympics Oklahoma held a Coaches Training Clinic June 6-8, 2011. 129 coaches have been trained and registered in 2011. In addition to coaches training clinics, coaches may receive recertification training on line. Recertification training in four sports is now offered online with others being added monthly. OU Autograph Day OSU Basketball Clinic 150 athletes attended a basketball clinic held by Travis Ford, Head Coach OSU Men’s Basketball, and the OSU Men’s Basketball Team. The athletes worked with the OSU student athletes and coaches on dribbling, passing and shooting skills.. 13
