Your senior yearwill be one of the most important years of your life, especially because you will be making importantdecisions about what you would like to do after you graduate. The good thing is, you are not alone! I willbe here this year to support you through the process as you are deciding toBefore we get started on the work that we will be doing together I’d like to take a moment to introducemyself. I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. After graduating, I left home to attend theUniversity of Minnesota where I studied history and played football. Shortly after graduating I moved toDallas, Texas where I worked as a teacher. I’ve been in DC for the past 5 years supporting students asthey pursue their dream colleges and careers.This year I look forward to meeting each one of you. I’m excited to learn more about your personal story,and the impact that you want to make in this world. I believe that with support we can all go on toaccomplish our biggest dreams and goals. This school year will be packed with learning, growing, new adventures, and excitement. Ican’t believe how fast time flew since you all first entered your freshmen year in 2019-2020.Most of you all know me because I’ve been with you since your freshmen year, however before we get started withthe school year, let me share a little bit about myself. I am a Syracuse, NY native who attended Syracuse University,where I earned a Bachelor’s in Child Development. Following my love for children and families, I decided to furthermy education and earned my Master’s in Social Work from the one, the only Howard University!! Upon graduating Idecided to stay here in Washington, DC to serve families and communities that looked like me. RepresentationMatters! I was also awarded the 2021 National School Social Worker of the Year by the School Social WorkAssociation of America (SSWAA). I uphold this accomplishment with honor and pride because social work is mypassion.As your social worker I will provide you with social-emotional and mental wellness support. Additionally, I alsosupport students academically by collaborating with you, your teachers, and your administrators to ensure you haveall the necessary tools to achieve optimal success while in school and for many years after you have graduated fromhigh school. I’m here to support you and help develop your level of understanding and your passions in the followingways: individual and group counseling, educational support groups, referrals to community-based resources, and muchmore.This class means something different for me, as I’m sure it does for you. It was during your freshmen year where therewas a global pandemic and we ALL had to reimagine what education looked like. We got through that, and we willget through your final year as a Rough Rider! Remember, I am accessible and available for appointments and referralsto support you. This 2022-2023 school year will be my 11 th school year working at Roosevelt High School, and I lookforward to beginning this final journey with you.
