AKURE—THERE are strong indications that the Ondo State government may sue the Federal Government, if the position of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is given to another state in the region. A reliable source, who spoke under anonymity, confided in Vanguard that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has directed the Attorney-General and Justice Commissioner of the state, Charles Titiloye, to file a suit against the Federal Government, if the state was not given the slot. This is coming ahead of the possibility of President Muhammadu Buhari forwarding the list of the Governing Board nominees of the NDDC to the Senate for confirmation on resumption this week. It was gathered that President Buhari has reportedly dumped the recommendations put forward by Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva and the Ondo governor in respect of the Managing Director. The development, it was further gathered, caused anxiety in the state over the weekend. It was alleged that the presidency was now looking towards Edo State to occupy the 7m Nigerians sue INEC over incomplete voter registration By Olasunkanmi Akoni LAGOS—AT least 24 Nigerians have sued the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for failing to give them and the other seven million Nigerians adequate time and opportunity to complete their voter registration online. The Plaintiffs, who are suing for themselves and on behalf of seven million other Nigerians, wanted to “complete the registration process so that they can obtain their permanent voter cards, PVCs, and exercise their rights to vote.” INEC recently disclosed that out of 10,487,972 Nigerians who carried out their pre-registration online, only 3,444,378 completed the process at a physical centre. This represents just 32.8 per cent of completed online registration. But in the suit, filed last Friday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the Plaintiffs sought “an order of mandamus to direct and compel INEC to re-activate its continuous voter’s registration exercise to allow the Plaintiffs to complete their registration and collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs.” Meanwhile, no date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit. The 24 Nigerians include Adeeyo Wasiu; Kunat Amos; Tagbo Chidubem; Emeghe Grace; Ayoola Ebenezer; Eche Otakpa; Olatoye Damilola; and Ogunejiofor Emeka. Others include Adedotun Babatunde; Emmanuel Tochukwu; Emmanuel Ternajev; Joy Ige; Lawerence Ignatius; Agbede Kunle; Eze Ndubisi; and Nkemdilim Bassey. Others are Omoike Oseine; Joshua Ogenekaro; Wisdom Emeka; Ukpe Destiny; Abayomi Opeoluwa; Ndubuisi Ahanihu; Akande Akintunde O; and Adamma Rhodes. The suit filed on behalf of the Plaintiffs by lawyers to Socio- Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, Managing Director slot instead of Ondo State. This was sequel to a memo said to have been forwarded by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami and approved by the President that Delta State is expected to produce the Chairman of the NDDC, while Edo state will produce the Managing Director. In the said memo, Ondo state will produce the Executive Director Finance and Accounts, or the Executive Director Project, while Imo State will produce the Executive Director, Projects, or Executive Director, Finance and Accounts. Insecurity, economic downturn, bad governance, recipe for agitations —YOV By Dapo Akinrerefon LAGOS—A Yoruba Diaspora group, Yoruba One Voice, YOV, yesterday, said that agitations for self-determination will continue, if the Federal Government fails to address issues that have been threatening the foundation of Nigeria and also pitting the ethnic nationalities against one another. YOV made this known at the 5th Edition of its global conference, held via zoom, where participants gathered from all the continents of the world. While proffering solutions to the myriads of problems bedevilling Nigeria, the group also warned the Federal Government against clamping down on selfdetermination agitators, insisting that it is the right of every ethnic nationality to seek justice, fair play and good governance, as well as self-determination, especially when it becomes very necessary. In his remarks, Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, who is also the Grand Patron of the diaspora group, said the Yoruba quest for autonomy or an independent nation should not be a crime, insisting that there are countries all over the world that sought their freedom peacefully. Adams said: “If Nigeria were good, none of us would have sought the exit door from this country. We would have buried the cause of the struggle. “But the struggle for the Yoruba nation became more prominent when it was obvious that Nigeria could not sustain the tempo of the ravaging unrest and economic downturn. “When it was obvious that things have gone awry and the nation we always call ours has lost the battle to terrorists and bandits. “And the country has eventually lost its soul. I think that is the reason we are having agitations from the six geopolitical zones. “In seeking self-determination, we are not ready to destroy the hard-earned glory and heritage of our forefathers." Why Nigerians must instil moral values in children—CEM By Julliet Umeh L AGOS—THE C h i l d r e n Evangelism Ministry, CEM, weekend, urged Nigerians to get involved in raising good children, noting that when children are directed in the right paths, they will not depart from them. CEM made the call in Lagos during the relaunch of the Ministry, birthed 43 years ago. In his remarks, the President of the group, Evangelist Tony Chukwudile, who spoke on the significance of the ministry’s relaunch, said: “After 43 years, there is a need to relaunch because many people are getting tired. Some started the ministry and are no more, while some are new. “So, there is a need for relaunching to remind ourselves and the people alive what we are called to do. And also to remind ourselves that these children must be cared for now before they get hardened. “Bible says ‘train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” He, however, regretted that 43 years after, many people are yet to key into the vision of CEM. He said: “Everybody, including fathers, mothers, teachers and every responsible adult in the society should get involved in evangelizing the children when they are young.” Also, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN in Lagos State, Rev. Steven Adegbite, described the relaunch of the ministry as the beginning of a revolution. Adegbite said: “This programme is the beginning of the revolution and we must embrace it. According to him, the agreement signed between the state and all the contractors stipulates that the roads would be built to have at least a minimum of 20 years of life span.
