EDITORIAL
Dear Friends &
Intercoiffure Members
One year of my presidency has reached its end and we were
finally able to organise an international event after a break of
more than two years due to the pandemic.
We celebrated a spectacular "Hair Cabaret" in the oldest
cabaret in Paris, the Paradis Latin: It became a celebration of
joy at seeing each other again after so long. YES! It was euphoric
what we were able to experience that weekend in Paris.
It was all the more regrettable that there were still travel restrictions for some member countries
and many of our friends were therefore unfortunately unable to attend. For our organisation,
the regulations presented some hurdles. But in the end, our expectations regarding the number
of participants were clearly exceeded. Thanks to the diligence of our office team, almost all our
wishes came true.
A big thank you also goes to the energetic people who mostly work in the background and are
always there for us: Sabine, Karine, Marie, Ali, Alexander, Martin and Fazia (who supported us
during the event days), as well as Christian, who moderated and directed for us.
There were trend-setting inspirations through shows of the sections from Austria, Bulgaria,
Switzerland, a workshow of the Cutting Council in partnership with our friends from the USA.
In addition, the great launch of our Intercoiffure Mondial collection 2023 "Euphoria" under the
direction of Vice President Markus Herrmann and his fashion team (details can be found on
the following pages). A further highlight was the show put on by the artists of the Paradis Latin,
which reflected the joy and euphoria we all felt, and rounded off our Intercoiffure Mondial event
after the first day in the Salle Gaveau, which saw our deserving members being showered with
many honours, the opening show of our young talents from the Fondation Guillaume and an
atmospheric boat trip on the Seine!
Now it's time to look to the future again. As announced, we will pay
special attention to men's trends in 2023 with the project "Intercoiffure
MasterBarber". Our WorldAcademy has developed a very versatile further
education programme and offers a variety of seminars for all employees of
our salons. Let us surprise you!
It is also a great pleasure for me personally that we were able to convince our
partners of the value of our activities and that they continue to support us in
many areas. TOGETHER - ICD Mondial as "the world's leading hairdressers"
and our partner companies - we can solve the issues of our time!
Euphoria – Fashion Future 2023
Launch of the Intercoiffure Mondial Collection Euphoria. Looks full of optimism -
even though and precisely because the world is in turmoil. The trends were created by
the Mondial Fashion Team 2023.
In the style of "The world's leading hairdressers": casual, chic and confident.
It’s easy to be happy by the sea. The international
hair artists of the Mondial Fashion Team
2023 have translated the feeling of exuberant
enthusiasm into trendy looks for the spring/
summer collection: the shoot for Euphoria took
place on the Dutch coast and in the studio of
renowned stylist and photographer Rob Peetoom.
What makes you euphoric? The greatest
confidence and contentment. Is that possible
in times of war? The makers of the Euphoria
collection chose the title deliberately. Because
fashion is a powerful way to show attitude: “we
alone must determine our actions, our thoughts.
If we subordinate everything to the aspirations of
an aggressor, then we give him even more power
over us. We started preparing the collection in
November 2021, and then 24 February happened...
We are sure that the world needs positive
feelings. The hair salon can be a place for lightheartedness.
Our clients come to us in their free
time. Our job is to create special experiences for
them. With our Euphoria collection, we want to
signpost new beginnings and joie de vivre," says
Markus Herrmann, the Intercoiffure Mondial
Vice President in charge of Fashion, of the
philosophy behind the collection.
Inspiration came from the fashion colours for
spring/summer 2023: Digital Lavender, Tranquil
Blue and Tender Shoots - determined by the trend
research company WGSN and manufacturer of
the colour system Coloro and by the Pantone
Color Institute.
EDITION 03 / P. 9

FASHION REPORT
A mix and match of these colours stands for
free spirits and positive spirit. The Euphoria
collection features cool cuts and casual
textures: a wavy short bob with darker roots
or a curly, layered shaggy cut with soft fringes
in a bright copper tone. More extravagant: a
modern mohawk, accurately cut with sleek
side contours and extra volume at the top
of the head. Long bobs as a restyle classic:
from feminine curls to a purist sleek look.
Androgynous: a short cut with graduation at
the back of the head, strict side lines and soft
layers on the top of the head. Expressive with
toning in violet: Pixie with long top hair and
fringed effects. And casual men's style: soft
contours, narrow sides - all graduated with
light nuances.
It was very important for hair artists from
all over the world to develop wearable,
commercial looks for the end consumer and
not to impose any fashion dictates on clients.
The Euphoria looks are full of confidence,
gender-neutral and diverse.
HAIR CABARET
HAIR CABARET 2022 IN PARIS
Welcome! Bienvenue ! Willkommen! ¡Bienvenidos! Friends from all over the world
attended Intercoiffure Mondial's rousing "Hair Cabaret 2022". It was a great celebration
of a newly discovered joie de vivre and flourishing creativity.
Cabaret - it's a brilliant spectacle. It features
glamorous models, subtle beauty, spontaneous
comedy and always a touch of sexiness and
frivolity. Intercoiffure Mondial, the association
of the best hairdressers in the world, presented
these magical moments at its "Hair Cabaret 2022"
and shared them with 500 hair fashion experts
from all over the world.
In the aftermath of the pandemic, Intercoiffure
Mondial invited creatives to the hair fashion
event in Paris: with imaginative shows in the
Paradis Latin, a dreamlike boat trip on the Seine
and a festive award ceremony in the Salle Gaveau.
Intercoiffeurs met their new President Peter
F. Pfister in Paris for the first time. And guests
enthusiastically celebrated the global family
reunion of the Intercoiffure community.
The two-days event offered outstanding fashion
expertise from the world's fashion capital,
coupled with a multicultural, positive and
extravagant spirit. It was a happy reunion of the
world's hairdressing elite and top international
managers from the hair cosmetics industry - and
it showed once again how much Intercoiffure
values these special global friendships and how
much they had been missed for so long.
HAIR CABARET
Cutting Council team
In the Salle Gaveau, near the Champs Elysées,
host Christian Rupprecht-Essig opened
the event and Peter F. Pfister, President of
Intercoiffure Mondial, welcomed members live
on stage for the first time. "I am happy that after
a break of more than two years and after exactly
one year of my presidency we are able to hold
an event in Paris again and that we can welcome
such a large number of participants. This shows
us that the redesign of our organization with all
its activities has been accepted by our members
- we are now active in 44 countries. We are
very pleased that entire sections are NOW reestablishing
their country organizations and
returning to our community of the world's
leading hairdressers - such as Peru, Vietnam
and the Netherlands!
After party at the Lounge
ICD America-Canada
During an evening boat trip on the Seine -
against the backdrop of the illuminated Eiffel
Tower and the beautiful bridges of Paris - the
Intercoiffeurs celebrated life in true savoir-faire
style: exuberant, unconventional, yet stylish.
And in an exclusive lounge on the banks of the
Seine, the juniors of the Fondation Guillaume
and international Intercoiffure members
rocked through the night until early morning.
FINALLY - it was time to enjoy life again.
Under the leadership of Peter F. Pfister, new
approaches to education are being pursued at
the highest level: "We will offer a talk show in
the online format 'Intercoiffure Mondial onAIR'
and also launch an intensive programme
at our Worldacademy under the leadership
of Joakim Roos, including a seminar called
'Entrecoiffeurship', which will show both young
entrepreneurs and experienced colleagues
new and academic ways of running a business.
Furthermore, in addition to the digital seminar
offer, we will also travel to individual regions to
hold live seminars in cooperation with getHAIR.
In addition, an innovative men's programme
is on our agenda for 2023: "Intercoiffure
MasterBarber" will focus on the highest
quality of barbershop skills. This concept
will be spearheaded by Vice President Frank
Gambuzza, one of the most successful barbers
in the USA. In short, Intercoiffure is back and
is fulfilling its claim to be "the world's leading
hairdressers" in meaningful ways.
The revue of the oldest cabaret in Paris, Paradis
Latin, is a declaration of love for life and Paris
- full of energy, poetry, sensuality and humour.
Just the right location for Intercoiffure's "Hair
Cabaret 2022". The global association, which is
one of the most innovative impulse generators
in the hair fashion universe, showcased
beautiful hair creations, all of which had
freedom, happiness and love of life as their
theme. We present snapshots of the shows on
luxury and finesse inspires us to keep striving
INTERVIEW
ELEVATE THE SALON INDUSTRY
Intercoiffure Magazine launches a
series of interviews in which its valued
industry partners describe the values
they associate with Intercoiffure
Mondial. First up are three top
managers from Kao Salon Division:
Dominic Pratt, Global President,
Kao Salon Division, Daniel Kaner,
Oribe Co-founder and President,
John Moroney, Vice President
Creative and Communication, Kao
Salon Division.
Kao Top Managers at the Intercoiffure Hair Cabaret event.
What is it that makes Kao different from other haircare companies?
DOMINIC PRATT: At Kao, we have a philosophy of making life beautiful for the Professional Salons
and Stylists, for their Clients and for the Planet. This starts with putting the customer at the center
of everything we do. It means building uniquely strong and trustful partnership with Salons. It also
means always bringing truly value added and inclusive products, services, education and events
that support Salons globally. Our unique Goldwell Color assortment, the pioneering Luxury Oribe
Brand or the Kao Salon Global Experience are three examples that perfectly highlight our difference.
Finally, we are committed to partnering with Salons to make our Industry more sustainable for the
future because we believe that sustainable growth is the only path.
“Sustainable growth is the only path” Dominic Pratt
You are committed to support professional salons and stylists - how
important is your partnership and cooperation with ICD Mondial?
D.P.: We are continuing to support the Salon industry through these
challenging times. Intercoiffure Mondial is the biggest, most important
Salon Association in the world. The values of Intercoiffure Mondial are a
great fit with the values of Kao and we have many of the same goals. I am
convinced that a strong partnership will help us both make more meaningful
contributions to support and elevate the Salon Industry.
EDITION 03 / P. 22

INTERVIEW
Peter F. Pfister & Dominic Pratt at KAO Event
You presented new trends and initiatives at the Kao Global Experience
Event in Amsterdam – what highlights do we get from Kao in 2023?
D.P.: It is going to be an exciting year. We will relaunch our flagship care
brand Kerasilk under its own Masterbrand, which reflects the success and
importance of the care category for us. Our unique Goldwell color brand
Top Chic will be expanding into a new ammonia free permanent color
category with a new subline called Topchic Zero, reflecting our approach
to sustainability throughout production, formula, packaging, as well as
feel-good attitude to our customers and their clients. We are continuing
to invest in inspiring and educating our customers, providing them unique
opportunity to learn from the best in the industry, no matter where they are
in the world, and will be hosting the next Global Kao Salon Experience in Chicago. Also keep an eye out
for stunning additions to the Oribe line-up in 2023. We will continue to offer world class education,
business support and inspiration, including the latest collection from Angelo Seminara. Finally, we
will continue our drive to partner with Salons globally to make our Industry more sustainable.
“Education is the single most important thing” John Moroney
Intercoiffure Mondial as global network of best
educated hairdressers is a long-term partner.
What are your common goals?
JOHN MORONEY: The idea of partnership and
our common goals can be demonstrated at many
levels. For example, at the very highest level
we share the common values of: Dedication to
Creativity, the Art of Excellent Craftsmanship
and Passion for Beauty. And with these values
guiding our actions, at Kao Salon, we are
dedicated to partnering with the right salons,
such as Intercoiffure salons, by
offering them a custom portfolio of
products and services designed to fit
their needs and helping them to grow
their business. Ultimately, our goal
is to look at partnership as a day-today
responsibility – it’s not just about
sponsorship or giving money, it’s
about actively partnering with salons
to help them succeed. In a time when
our industry becomes more corporate
and impersonal, our goal is to go in
the opposite direction and become
more personal, to become a true partner, which
salons can rely upon for all their needs.
Talking about education – how will Kao support
stylists in 2023?
J.M.: As a hairdresser, I’ve always believed that
Education is the single most important thing that
we can do for ourselves and for our customers.
Constantly revisiting the fundamentals to
maintain a strong foundation while always
looking for new inspirations that will stretch our
skills and push our creative boundaries. Goldwell
and Kao Salon Division will continue to invest
resources into stylist education at all levels. Our
network of over 4,000 educators and artists, in
42 countries around the world, are in salons on a
daily basis, standing side by side with stylists to
help them learn and grow. In addition, we offer
in-depth, hands-on creative courses in our 33
Kao Salon Academies around the world as well
as being present online with Kao Salon Virtual
Education.
Hairdressers around the world need new ideas
to develop their business and creating new
trend visions. What concepts are you
proposing?
J.M.: First, let’s talk about developing
the salon’s business. This spans a
variety of topics – are we talking
about business planning or financial
analysis? Or are we talking about
marketing and merchandising
strategy? Regardless of the salon’s
specific needs we believe that one
size does not fit all, so there is no
one strategy that will work for every
salon every time. Instead, our Kao
Salon teams are trained to look at every salon as
an individual and to help them create a strong
joint business plan that will help them meet
their unique goals. On the Creative & Trend
side we have the Global Creative Awards which
showcases the best and brightest creative talents
within the Kao Salon Family. When it comes to
learning about trends and creativity, look no
further than our Kao Salon Academies, where
our Artists and Educators bring you the latest
in creative education, for example, our flagship
Goldwell Master Colorist Program.
INTERVIEW
“The sister/brotherhood within Intercoiffure is unique” Daniel Kaner
Intercoiffure Mondial
& Oribe share a strong,
valuable partnership.
Why is it important for
salon owners and stylists
to exchange ideas with
hairdressers from all over
the world?
DANIEL KANER: I have
been working closely
with ICD North America for many years.
Oribe Canales was a great fan and
received a lifetime achievement award
from the organization given to him by
Sarah Jessica Parker.
The business leaders I’ve met and their insights
have helped me to be a better leader. We have
experienced great leadership such as Lois
Christie, Frank Gambuzza, and today, our current
president, Sheila Wilson.
This past year I have had the privilege of building
a relationship with the Mondial leaders and
President, Peter F. Pfister. Peter and Sheila are
working to build a strong global organization
which is exciting for our community – it speaks
to our future and all of its possibilities.
I have admired the organization and its members
from the earliest part of my career. The members
were always the best examples of businesspeople
and artists. And I was always impressed with
how collegial an atmosphere and generous with
knowledge transfer. They shared everything –
from business idea to hiring practices – there is a
great sister/brotherhood within the organization
that is unique.
Today as our community becomes global, it’s
more important than ever to connect and work
together to build the absolute best future for the
next generation. Building globally is all about
collecting local perspectives.
What can we expect from Oribe next year?
D.K.: We’re building our organization to have
more of a presence in Europe and Asia. Currently,
our brand is in 52 countries. We have built an
Atelier in Copenhagen where our global artist
Nicci Welsh will be the principal. We have nearly
100 US and international senior artists from
Rome to Munich that will continue to share the
Oribe story.
We will continue to tell the Oribe Canales story
and share his perspective. This year we
introduced the “Muscleman” icon on a limitededition
version of our award winning Dry
Texturizing Spray.
Your vision for the industry - how do you see the
hairdressing business in 5 years?
D.K.: Maybe the way to approach that question is
for us to ask ourselves, “What do you think our
customers will still value five years from now?”
I believe that we can always do a little better.
Diversity and inclusion as well as sustainability
are on our minds, stretching as makers,
businesspeople, and global citizens.
Health, wellness, and active lifestyles are part
of the beauty journey. Everyone is interested in
beauty services. The youth is subscribing to it all
– skin, nail art, extensions, color. The future of
hairdressing will be monumental.
The next question to ask is, “What is the best
experience we can offer? What is our point of
view as the curator of the experience? How far
can we push the offering?”
Once we answer that, as individual leaders we
need to work backwards and create this new
customer journey. Those who do that will have
as much business as they can handle. Best is a
mindset. Leadership is a mindset. Future is a
mindset. Together we will continue to lead our
industry and guide one another.
OUR SCHOOLS
"Give a starving man a fish and he will be full for a day,
teach him to fish and he will never go hungry again."
Our 2 schools in Ukraine are still closed and partly destroyed at this
time for the known reasons. In the hope that this war will pass as soon
as possible, we have decided to save a part of the Ukrainian donations
for the reconstruction.
With the help of our new Ambassador in Brazil, Adauto
Paschoal, we are in the process of opening a fifth school in his
home country. Adauto is very well known in his home country for his
humanitarian aid. With the help of Mari and Laiz, Adauto continues to
take care of our 4 existing schools.
Our school at Christel Haus in South Africa is also fully functional again
thanks to our friends Ezra Isaacs and Rolf Losken. With the help of
Alexander Herzberg, we have succeeded in finding a new sponsor who has
agreed to cover the running costs of our school in Cape Town for 12 months.
Our school in Uruguay is also active again and continuity is assured for another year.
HAIR FOR LIFE
As passionate Intercoiffure members and hair specialists, Markus
Kempinger, and his wife, Uli from Augsburg (Germany) have
been active with the website www.hair-for-life.com.
The Kempingers collect human hair braids and donate
them to Education for Life. In the meantime, the campaign
has also been successful worldwide with our Intercoiffure friends.
You can be par of it as well! In your country, collect all cut and dried
human hair braids (at least 30 cm) in the salon and send them to
your Education for Life Ambassador (or to your Section President).
All donations are always welcome to our account:
