Brevard Live PHOENIX continued her confidence and also was a regular participant in the Moose jams. He also has played in various groups with Ellen. She’s sung in the group Brevard Brass which morphed into Total Recall which did benefits and performed at assisted living facilities doing jazz and big band music. Fun fact- she teaches ukulele at various assisted living and retirement communities. Ellen is a big supporter of live music in Brevard and you can find her either at jams or supporting other groups when not playing herself. Curt Hanson is their sound man though he will substitute when needed on bass. The band prides itself in being able to change up sets and even the approach of the songs on a regular basis. Although you’ll hear classic rock standards by Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Bad Co, Eagles, Billy Joel, Van Morrison and Elle King you are just as likely to hear Etta James, current dance tunes, jazz or country. Ellen told me “The band feels they try and make every show fun to the audience. We are really conscious of the songs we pick and try to make them meaningful.” One of the great things they see is how they bring fans and groups together. They see people meet at a show and then see those same people socializing at other shows. It’s all about creating an awesome experience whether it’s dancing, singing along or just reminiscing a memory that the song brought. You’re likely to hear different takes on songs as the band makes the arrangements their own with tempo changes, lyric differences, even genre shifting (yeah, let’s hear it done with a reggae beat!) but still recognizable. So, as you can tell, the name Phoenix is very appropriate bringing new life, getting people together and warming their hearts with joy and happiness. Visit their Facebook page Phoenix Band or their website LoveToJam. com for info on upcoming shows.
