The city is divided into four areas, each assigned two collection weeks and crews service each street once during the designated week(s). Rake leaves to the curb by 7 a.m., Monday of the assigned collection week. Place leaves only in the grassy area between the street and sidewalk or to the edge of the lawn for areas without a sidewalk. Do not block storm sewers with leaves placed in the street. Do not park vehicles in front or on top of leaves 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., so workers can maneuver leaf collection www.columbusmessenger.com Leaf collection in Grove City runs through mid-December news and notes machinery. Collection is limited to leaves only as equipment is damaged by branches, twigs, rocks and other debris. Place leaves in yard waste bags/containers, year-round as part of regular trash pickup. Leaf piles do not kill grass but may lead to temporary discoloration. Rake leaves a day or two prior to your collection week to prevent grass discoloration and raked leaf piles from blowing. Tornado siren relocated With the closing of Pleasant View Middle School, the Pleasant Township tornado siren has been relocated. The siren has to be relocated to a new area on the property. According to Pleasant Township Fire Chief Dave Whiting, it has been relocated to the back of the property at Pleasant View. The township is responsible for the cost of moving the siren which was originally estimated at between $2,600 and $3,000. Previously the trustees had approved the expenditure of $3,000 for the siren but according to Whiting, they require an additional $414.17 for the project. The trustees did approve the additional expense for the tornado siren project. The county will continue to maintain the siren at an approximate cost of $1,000. It has been determined that this is still the optimal location for the siren. Blood drives in Grove City The American Red Cross will host several blood drives in Grove City. Going off the ‘bales’ Messenger photo by Dedra Cordle The Shekinah Christian School in Plain City hosted its first Fall Celebration for the community on Oct. 15. Among those in attendance at the festive event was Grove City resident Isabella Yake. Unlike many of her peers, the 5-year-old was unafraid of playing around in the straw bed on display or diving off of the bales that surrounded the loosely packed structure. “It’s so much fun,” she said as she threw straw into the air. Her infectious spirit quickly got other children to join in on the action.

She is a fun-loving girl looking for her furever home. She likes toys, pets, and definitely treats. Artemisia will keep you entertained. She is up for adoption through Colony Cats and Dogs. FYI: colonycats.org Charlie is a 3-monthold who was rescued from a high kill shelter in West Virginia. He is a sweet snuggle bug and a good listener. He is crate trained and almost house trained. Charlie loves to play with other dogs and is respectful of cats. He is current on vaccines, neutered, and ready to find his forever home. Adopt him from Colony Cats and Dogs. FYI: colonycats.org Reed is an 8-year-old terrier mix who is a bit of a wallflower. Reed is a shy yet charming dog who is searching for a patient human with a relaxed lifestyle. He could use some gentle guidance to help him come out of his shell. Reed is up for adoption at the Franklin County shelter. FYI: franklincountydogs.com Polar is a real go-getter. This 3-year-old mixed breed is action oriented. He would love a home with someone who wants to get outside and get moving. Polar would make a great walking or jogging partner.
